I don't remember the original doc but it looks interesting.

That poor baby will be scarred for life at the sight of those clowns [bushock]

greenplastictrees · 09/04/2012 22:53

Hammond - that's so true. The girls are great. Maybe the mother HAsnt made the best decisions in some areas of her life but she's raised some great children who are hard working and polite.

greenplastictrees · 09/04/2012 22:54

That was supposed to be HAmione not Hammond!

As for pay day loan companies how can they not have been banned?!

sailorsgal · 09/04/2012 22:55

Yes they can spend their benefits on what they want but you have to prioritise what is needed and what you want.

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 22:56

I think the mother's choices seem to have affected Kelly the most, which I assume is because she is the eldest and has had the greatest burden. Shame her mother doesn't see that.

lumpsdumps · 09/04/2012 22:56

Watching this with tears in my eyes

WetAugust · 09/04/2012 22:56

The poverty trap is so bloody depressing. I'd turn to drink.

I'd get a job.

birthdaygurl · 09/04/2012 22:56

Kelly is not the eldest

Voidka · 09/04/2012 22:57

I wondered if there would be a thread and how quickly it would turn into a poor people shouldnt be allowed nice things thread.

Quicker than I imagined.

ifancyashandy · 09/04/2012 22:57

They don't seem to want for anything so guess they must be good at prioritising & looking out for each other.

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 22:57

Who is the oldest then? I thought she was.

OddBoots · 09/04/2012 22:57

If only it is as simple as getting a job these days, especially with a history of mental health problems. Too few jobs with too many people wanting them.

hippoCritt · 09/04/2012 22:58

Kelly looks so sad in earlier filming, so sad she doesn't feelshe has been a child

ifancyashandy · 09/04/2012 23:00

Most of them do have a job wet. Just the clinically depressed mother & kids at school, plus the one who can't find one for looking.

But I'm sure the show is running a website where you can let them know of any companies hiring in the Birmingham area.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 09/04/2012 23:00

I think Amy was the eldest, she's a year older than Kelly and works with her at the home.

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 23:00

Amy is 20 and Kelly is 21, or that was what they said in the film.

ggirltwin2pinot · 09/04/2012 23:01

right off to watch 'made in chelsea"
there's a contrast!!

birthdaygurl · 09/04/2012 23:03

There was a sister, sam? who is 24

blapbird · 09/04/2012 23:03

I come from the same kind of back ground as these girls and everyone always comments on how "strong" my sister and my self are, but it's not really a choice, if you grow up hungry, and having your mum regularly cry upon you, you end up being 'the strong one' in every relationship you ever have.

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 23:07

Was Sam the one with the Timpson man? I wonder when she moved out of home and if it was before 2009?

It seemed to be Kelly and Amy that had to move back or couldn't pursue their goals because of the mother's marriage break up in 2009. Both of them commented about that.

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 23:09

My mum comes from that sort of background but in her day there weren't any benefits. She was more grown up at 12 than I probably will ever be.

ifancyashandy · 09/04/2012 23:22

And thank God we have a benefits system in place so 12 YO children no longer have that life Hiss.

Oh no, wait, hang on a second...

sailorsgal · 09/04/2012 23:22

Thank god there is a benefit system in this country. Having spent some time in poor countries I am very happy to pay tax to help those less fortunate. Grew up in similar circumstances. Dsis and I were talking about it last night. Having to wear shoes that were too small and the house been bloody freezing.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/04/2012 23:34

There's always the comments "We can't tell people what to spend their money on". They can buy what they bloody like, it's money back into the economy IMO.

Well if I spent my money on fags, wine, plasma TV, Blackberries, all that gold jewellery, dogs, etc etc,

to the detriment of my children, no-one would say - "Oh 70 buy yourselves a bottle of gin. Never mind that your DCs have holes in their shoes".
No it would be "You selfish cow, put your DC first"

I don't smoke/drink/have a big telly. I've got a very modest car (need to drive for work) one car household.

I didn't "Want a baby before I'm 25" like one of the sisters.

And I come from a generation, sadly long gone from what I see where DH and I work for what we need.

My face is tired now. I'm off to bed.

bringbacksideburns · 09/04/2012 23:40

Ah! Now there's a more feckless bunch of prats! But they can smoke, drink, have a holiday and use a Blackberry because rich Daddy pays the bill.

Maybe they could invite Kelly onto their yacht for a weekend, she's never had a holiday, and works her arse off.
