Yeh, was he freaked out by the screaming. Is that Doula a bit of a sham or what?

didldidi · 28/03/2012 21:46

I have never seen a more useless bloke in labour. No wonder she got a doula

allnightlong · 28/03/2012 21:47

Great for you stranded but for many it's horrifically painful.
I always raise an eyebrow at women who dismiss such things just because their experience wasn't as painful.

hippoCritt · 28/03/2012 21:47

Myelene was on the one show recently urging everyone to give everything they had to help children with malaria(I think it was malaria) I now presume she lives a very basic life giving majority of her income away!

Sparklyboots · 28/03/2012 21:47

I'm a screamer.

Sparklyboots · 28/03/2012 21:47

Well, more of a moo-er

SunshineOutdoors · 28/03/2012 21:47

I couldn't cope with the pain but I wasn't a screamer - it was more like a sorry for myself whimper whilst begging dh to rub my back harder and harder and don't stop not even for a second. I found it horrifically painful - but as I said, I'm a wuss

stottiecake · 28/03/2012 21:48

hello!
sorry to butt in but just started watching (had it paused whilst chatting to my mum for half an hour) Anyway there was a warning about it being disturbing - has anything been disturbing? I can cope with bodily fluids but nothing that may mean the baby's in trouble.

Will I be alright watching it???

allnightlong · 28/03/2012 21:48

Didl I do my husband! It terrifies him truly that I we decided he'd never be my Birth partner. Although he has been slightly more involved each time.

scarletforya · 28/03/2012 21:49

I hope I'm not a screamer or a poo-er...

ShowOfHands · 28/03/2012 21:49

You need to be very careful Stranded. Because every labour is different, not just woman to woman but baby to baby. It's not a set level of pain and you handle it well or you don't. I had a severely malpositioned baby first time round and the pain was out of this world. I ended up with severe ptsd and pnd and the single most difficult thing I had to deal with afterwards was the sweeping 'oh stop making a fuss' or Hmm faces (especially on obem threads on mn). Because it's bad enough feeling like a failure without other women judging you and criticising you for an experience they have no firsthand experience of.

OTOH, I had a 37hr back to back labour with my 2nd and didn't so much as wince. So I can understand that different labours feel different and had I only ever had ds I wouldn't understand how utterly debilitating labour can be.

Just be a bit careful about how you make these comments please.

SunshineOutdoors · 28/03/2012 21:49

Is that next show any good? It looks like it should be but probably isn't iyswim.

scarletforya · 28/03/2012 21:49

Ha ha, the take away on the wheelchair!

Agree allnight. There is a lot of baby talk at work at the moment and some are saying how they 'didn't make a sound', implying that they are somehow superior to those who did Hmm

Sparklyboots · 28/03/2012 21:49

OO I'd like a doula. She'd be my repositary of clear thinking while I was out of my mind in pain

sailorsgal · 28/03/2012 21:50

Why is the doula a sham?

She is only there for support though i think I would have got her to do some breathing techniques to get her through it. At least she is now on the ball.

allnightlong · 28/03/2012 21:50

Stotie most of the births they show turn out fine in the end, they always give the warning.
There is only been one episode that I found distressing when a baby got stuck and had a lot of intervention and it was very touch and go.
But mostly it's just gore but then beautiful babies.

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 21:50

My mw I saw at 1st appt said it was a waste of energy to scream and wail and that always stayed in my head.

I was scarily silent.

I am, sadly, both a moo-er and a poo-er. On the bright side, I am (unexpectedly) not a swearer.

SunshineOutdoors · 28/03/2012 21:53

When it was time to push I asked if I should be grunting/screaming like I'd seem on tv, but mw said it would use more energy that way - which makes sense, so I too was silent, maybe just a slight grunty push

stottiecake · 28/03/2012 21:53

thanks!

I hadn't noticed the 'disturbing' notice before - I just can't cope with being too disturbed but gore - yep no probs!

SunshineOutdoors · 28/03/2012 21:53

seen

JasperJohns · 28/03/2012 21:53

When I went in with my first, I could hear a screamer and it scared both me and my dh!
