Anyone watching?

Downton, it is not.

OP posts:
TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 14:59

yes, I missed lots of crucial bits because I was busy googling to try and find out who everyone was.

Who is Persephone? I thought she was the sister of the man of the house but didn't he snog her at one point? And was she in Germany in order to provide a plot where she gets stuck there in a future episode or is she just the token appeaser? Every drama about posh people in 1938 has its appeaser.

TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 15:02

so the mother had Indian connections hence the pet monkey?

Agincourt · 20/02/2012 15:06

yes I think they lived there at some point? colonial family?

I thought persephone was the sister too, I don't think it was the brother kissing her, it was someone else dark haired.

This is like the blind leading the blind Blush :o It's a good job we don't live together Tunip, we would find Emmerdale difficult to fathom between us

TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 15:24

oh maybe it was Prince George kissing her?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 20/02/2012 15:29

are you all mental?

percy is kerry katona's sister. she was kissing lord hallam, the short guy with the monkey.

TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 15:35

Kerry Katona? Confused

TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 15:37

is Kerry Katona Keeley Hawes?
she's his wife's sister? He was kissing his wife's sister?

oldraver · 20/02/2012 16:06

I missed the first half... so thought oh Telly Addicts on Mumsnet will have the answers

I'm non the wiser Grin

TunipTheVegemal · 20/02/2012 16:35

You would think so wouldn't you OldRaver? Grin

I think Aitch could help us. She just chooses not to.

Agincourt · 20/02/2012 16:36

she prefers to think we are mental :( but I am not the one suggesting someone kissed his wifes sisters short manned monkey

GeorginaWorsley · 20/02/2012 17:52

As a fan of the original,(obv)Grin I quite liked it.
Don't like the Duke of Kent character though.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 20/02/2012 19:03

yes, percy is lady hallam's little sister, don't you remember? last series she was banging spago on a fold-up in the garage and then had it off with von ribentropp. or something like that.
so the bil kissed the sil. in the drawing room with the monkey.

hattymattie · 20/02/2012 19:05

I wish they'd give us a recap and not expect us to remember who's who after a whole year - or repeat old series and run new one straight on. Took me ages to remember characters. - also her husband looks very like other tall dark guy (didn't know who he was). Liked it but confused Confused

teahouse · 20/02/2012 19:50

Just catching up on this - not sure I can manage all this political correctness in one programme.

I found Downton predictable, but at least it was watchable, and the acting topnotch

Animation · 21/02/2012 07:28

I like the look of this!! Smile

Only watched the first 5 minutes so far ...and it's not Downton Abbey but it's got a similar quality feel about it and nicely filmed. Takes you away to that era.

I'm excited!

ppeatfruit · 21/02/2012 09:57

Yeah we're all mental NOT Upst. Dst. of course; percy is the NORTY sister of Kiera Knightley\ kerry Katona\ Keeley Hawes's. she's obviously based on that monkeys RL family oohh what's the name of them with mad posho sisters? One of whom was a Mosleyite and the other a Commie oh someone must know.

TunipTheVegemal · 21/02/2012 10:00

the Mitfords

ppeatfruit · 21/02/2012 10:15

Yes!!!! thanks tunip Diana Mitford married Mosley didn't she? I'm reading a fantastic book about the 2nd W.W. ATM and apparently although in prison the Mosleys were drinking champagne and generally having a lovely time. The book is called The West End Front by Matthew Sweet well worth a read IMO.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 21/02/2012 11:08

she's unity.

TunipTheVegemal · 21/02/2012 11:12

Ppeatfruit, yes, also I read that while the Mosleys had a relatively comfortable time in prison, the rank-and-file British fascists were held in much harsher conditions in prison, and afterwards the other fascists felt very betrayed by their glorious leader not giving a shit about them and their hardship.

jodevizes · 21/02/2012 12:34

Couldn't get into it. There is something not quite right. Feels like Downton Lite but I cannot put my finger on it. Shame as the Beeb normally gets these things spot on.

Jusfloatingby · 21/02/2012 12:45

It was a bit all over the place but will hopefully settle down, now that they've introduced all the characters and set all the various plot lines in motion.

I wish they hadn't cast two such similar looking actors to play Hallam and the Duke of Kent. They're nearly like twins.

LunarSea · 21/02/2012 14:41

They film they exterior shots just along the road from where I live - so I watch it for the scenery spotting opportunities.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 21/02/2012 14:42

NICE stealth boast, Lunar!

ppeatfruit · 21/02/2012 15:05

aitch wasn't Unity the commie? Percy seems more on the fascist side to me maybe I'm confused which wouldn't be surprising given the progamme we're reviewing Grin
