That old man is so sweet and it's so sad. Sad

Bit disappointed with the girls this time, with the exception of Lucy they seem to confirm all the worst stereotypes of ditsy girls.Milla especially seems a poor example of modern women doctors ,given her obsession with clothes and need to spend money.Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 11:33

I think they want to make all the doctors have distinctive personalities maybe.

I agree that they've edited it in such a way to make the girls look a bit dopey and the boys, or at least some of them much more capable.
I have high hopes for the one who is oriental looking. Sorry, I don't know his name.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/02/2012 11:48

But I think he was the one who put the chest drain in in week one.

Talking of Emma and Joe,I saw Emma on BBC Breakfast tv a few days ago discussing pet insurance. She had long brown hair tied back, still slim and attractive but looking rather different.

Auntiestablishment · 09/02/2012 20:41

What I don't get is why they haven't done these things before: taking blood, putting in cannulas, stitches, etc.
Why don't they learn the practical stuff, and get to a reasonable standard at medical school? They could get "volunteer patients" like they have for exams and things.

Dancergirl · 09/02/2012 21:32

They do auntie but it's not the same as real on-the-job experience. And it may have been overplayed for the programme. There could be plenty of occasions when they took blood easily and successfully but they don't show that on tv because it's not that interesting!

Auntiestablishment · 09/02/2012 21:58

Thanks, Dancer - my (admittedly limited) experience of brand-new junior doctors is much in line with that shown: needle-wiggling and the doctor looking even more uncomfortable than the patient whose arm they're poking about in.

Listmaker · 10/02/2012 10:41

Anyone know how Andy can be qualified yet only 22? I thought Drs did 5 years? I guess he may have gone to school a year early? But someone further up said they did 6 years which would mean he started uni at 16? Confused!

Dancergirl · 10/02/2012 10:59

I think the minimum is 5 years but they can choose to do a BSc which makes it 6. Suppose he could have gone up a year at school and started at 17....?

Listmaker · 10/02/2012 11:04

Thanks Dancergirl - that's what we figured - that he was bright and had either skipped a year or started school a year early or something and gone to uni at 17.

mrswoodentop · 10/02/2012 15:07

His birthday was late August ,new Drs start on 1 August so he was 18just before starting Uni and 23 just after starting work .Course is effectively 4years11 months

Clawdy · 10/02/2012 15:54

They seem to share a very large and attractive house. Someone suggested perhaps the programme makers have rented it for them, for the duration of the filming. Anyone know? It would explain why they are all living together when they don't appear to be particularly close friends.

mrswoodentop · 10/02/2012 16:27

They were interviewed on front row a couple of weeks ago, they don't get paid to be in the programme but the house is provided

ggirl · 10/02/2012 21:33

yes they said on twitter the posh place is paid for byt the tv company for the 3mos they film , but they all still pay their rent in their own places

Auntiestablishment · 10/02/2012 21:42

I think 8 is too many, last year's series in Newcastle showed more of each person developing.

RedGurnard · 13/02/2012 21:07

I don't know if anyone has answered the question about handbags yet but I have the answer! My dp is a junior dr and says that, whilst they do get lockers, they can be anywhere in the hospital and when you only get 5 mins break to grab something to eat you dont have time to get to your locker. They can't leave any valuables lying around or even in offices as things get stolen :-( It's alright for the boys as they have deep pockets to put things in!

rocketupbum · 14/02/2012 15:35

I know a relative of one of the girls and I am sure she was getting quite a significant amount of money to be in it ( enough to do it after being a bit reluctant at first). They also get to live in the house rent free for the whole year. She was persuaded to do it as they were keen to have a more normal northern type as an antidote to the posh totty (can you guess who it is yet?!).

ScoutJemAndBoo · 14/02/2012 18:38

In Scotland it is perfectly common to go to uni at 16. had I chosen that route I would have been 16 and a half.

DN delayed her medical degree despite an unconditional offer so she would be 17 and a half, not 16 and a half.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 14/02/2012 20:43

I love Junior Doctors. I like Lucy, Aki and Ackieth (sp), also Andy will be great when he gains more confidence. Not too keen on Priya or Milla, though that could be the editing or me being judgy .

I'm still waiting for the medical moment of the series, which last season was the man with the loo brush stuck up his anus Shock .

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 14/02/2012 21:38

I found the receipt pin thingy stuck in the hand pretty impressive :)

javo · 15/02/2012 10:31

I could not believe the poor man with a very painful swollen hand had been to A&E 3 times and no one had considered a blood clot(common sense) - he had just been sent away!

First time I've seen this - watched it with my 16 year old DD and she said it made her a bit frightened of going to hospital (swollen hand and chest drain incidents)but she liked Aki - A LOT!!!
