Watching it now and think I saw it years ago? It's supposed to be good and based on real life?

Kids are cute Smile

Inclusive but, there's no beach. Plenty of activities in the mountains though. My friends really liked the coast. More touristy though.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 19:58

Still believe it's not a place for young children.

It is a wonderful place for young children! How do you think Moroccans manage to raise their children? My DS is fortunate enough to spend several weeks a year there with his family and it is wonderful. Great weather, wonderful food, hundreds of children to play with, animals, beautiful countryside, lots of attention, love and welcome. I'm sorry you had a less than great experience but it isn't representative.

katkitya · 05/01/2012 20:08

Marrakech old town is not for young children but, I imagine lots of places are.

Animation · 05/01/2012 20:14

We were based in Agadir so my opinion is based on that one area.

It's a muslim country and so there's less freedom for girls and a pressure to cover up. My 3 girls said they wouldn't want to live there - and for them it felt oppressive.

It may be different in other regions.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 20:26

Well yes. If you expected bikini beach holiday you should have maybe avoided a Muslim country. Although I have been to beaches in the region of agadir which were very chilled and where women were wearing costumes with shorts, and even some in costumes without any cover up.
Dress codes are different in Muslim countries. That does not make it oppressive per se.

Well I'm sold been googling but convincing dp is a different matter he tends to like to go to Spanish speaking places, seen as he's learning the lingo. I could always go with a friend or two though?

Northern morocco is Spanish speaking on the whole, if you like peaceful places with lovely countryside google chef chaouen - DH has a shop there, it's beautiful and very Spanish in feel. Even south of chaouen many people speak Spanish. Or French, if that helps!

CuriousMama · 05/01/2012 21:22

Oooo thank you.

Curious, go with your girlfriends for a long weekend!! Honest, it's an ideal shopping and sunning weekend. It's very interesting and the food is fab!

CuriousMama · 05/01/2012 23:32

Yes am quite drawn to that idea. Not that I'm into shopping, more the eating Grin

OP posts:
katkitya · 05/01/2012 23:35

There are fab places to eat. It's not a bar hopping place but you can get really good wine in the restaurants or, send the riad owner out to buy it, they have their ways. Research it first as its not for everyone.

CuriousMama · 06/01/2012 00:27

Yes just been reading it can be dry, not for dp then he likes his beer and vino.

OP posts:
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 06/01/2012 01:08

It's not dry, any hotel which has a restaurant should have a bar, most restaurants serve alcohol and you can buy it in supermarkets. It is drunk in bars and nightclubs in the cities. Really not dry!

GothAnneGeddes · 06/01/2012 11:50

Animation - the racism you're displaying is shocking. How on earth do you conclude that wearing hijab= not suitable for young children?

katkitya · 06/01/2012 11:53

It's not a bar hopping place though is it? Not that kind of a holiday. Not in old Marrakesh anyway. Yes you can get drinks, especially cocktails in the restaurants but you wouldn't stop off for a beer in the afternoon. The bars aren't obvious. If you go to a bar full of locals you will get stared at, as a woman.

katkitya · 06/01/2012 11:58

Anne, I don't think that's what she's saying. She's saying her teenage daughters felt intimidated by being leered at all the time. We can't pretend this doesn't happen because it does. An older person like myself would deal with it swiftly. I don't think a self concious teen would.

CuriousMama · 06/01/2012 15:00

Oh I'm not a bar hopper Smile Been there done that and only do it if I have to now, hen nights etc.. I prefer sitting in pub with real ale and open fire but can forgo that Wink

OP posts:
CuriousMama · 06/01/2012 15:01

GAG she isn't being racist? Just stating her experiences. I've heard many people say the same.

OP posts:
katkitya · 06/01/2012 16:46

You won't get real ale and open fires but you will get roof top bars with storks walking around and beautiful local rose wine. I'm sure you'll survive.

Animation · 06/01/2012 17:02

"Animation - the racism you're displaying is shocking. How on earth do you conclude that wearing hijab= not suitable for young children?"

GothAnneGeddes.

That's a bit dramatic! Hmm

Katkitya has grasped what I was saying. My teen daughters WERE self conscious in that environment, and fed up of being stared at and approached by men. Outside the hotel they always covered up.
