Oh god I cried when he cried! That was really cruel:(

LittlePickleHead · 04/11/2011 21:59

Fair enough!

Georgimama · 04/11/2011 22:00

If this isn't pretend, which I doubt, Forrest here is the most suggestible person in the world ever.

LittlePickleHead · 04/11/2011 22:00

He's taken that in very good humour

LittlePickleHead · 04/11/2011 22:01

I am finding it a little hard to believe that he finds it hilarious that he thought he was going to be put in prison for murder??

Unlurked · 04/11/2011 22:01

Oh good he wasn't traumatised at all. It was all a wonderful experience. Lovely.

Skillbo · 04/11/2011 22:04

I'm not sure what to think to be honest - he seemed pretty genuine and felt so sorry for him when he was crying!! He went soooo pale as well... I actually reckon they did dress him as they mentioned the dressing gown and if you believe in hypnosis, it is perfectly plausible to get him dressed, carried down the stairs etc etc...

I think these are really interesting programmes - particularly the first one - to show just how crazy our brains are...

ledkr · 04/11/2011 22:04

unicorny did you have to mention the walking dead? I have come to bed by accident and cant get fx up here,i cant be arsed to go back downstairs.

Georgimama · 04/11/2011 22:05

So, we should believe he's telling the truth because he says so? Yeah right.

LeBOF · 04/11/2011 22:15

I would like to believe him- it would be pretty unethical to downright lie about how he makes the programme. It's hard though.

He is a scarily talented man. His live show was jaw dropping and I have no idea how any of it could possibly have been faked. I'm quite blissfully ignorant when it comes to fakery though Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 04/11/2011 22:42

I've ordered a ooh called thirteen steps to mentalism. Apparently Derren read it many years ago when he started doing this and a lot of the techniques he uses were learnt from this book.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/11/2011 22:42

Ooh should be book

noblegiraffe · 05/11/2011 22:45

Why would he risk his career and his credibility and use stooges?

Besides, false confessions are a well-known and studied phenomenon. The Innocence Project in the US uses modern DNA evidence to exonerate innocent people in prison for crimes that it turns out they didn't commit. In roughly 25% of these cases (out of nearly 300 in total), the innocent person falsely confessed to the crime.

uniCorny · 06/11/2011 17:39

watched it today
if it isn't for real then Jody is a brilliant actor
I believed it anyway

kreecherlivesupstairs · 09/11/2011 10:51

Phew, I watched this last night and I also cried when Jody did. IMO, it was horrible and spiteful and illustrated nothing.
I wonder how he is now? I think his family and girlfriend should hang their heads in shame for colluding with this.
The first two were OK, the Fry one better than the predictible second, but this was beyond the pale.

Have to admit I haven't watched this, my mum told me about it. It just sounds so cruel, could being part something like this affect your job or even your future mental health?

Do you think I should watch it?

LaTristesse · 10/11/2011 10:43

I'm with kreecher, I thought it was mean and nasty, and I usually love Derren. This was going to far in my book...

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/11/2011 12:56

Good, I thought I was just being a bleeding heart. Nothing could be further from the truth. Normally I am nails.
I know nothing of Mr Blimey isn't my forename spelled in an interesting way Brown.

helpmabob · 11/11/2011 22:47

I am actually ashamed of my dh for enjoying this

MissPenteuth · 12/11/2011 14:20

I just watched this on 4OD yesterday. Liked the 'Cluedo names' touch (Professor Plummer, Rev. Green, Retired Colonel Coleman (Coleman's Mustard, Col. Mustard, geddit?).

I agree with VivaLaBeaver, I distrust Derren after the Casino episode; he approaches a 'random' bloke on the street and persuades him to go to his bank and withdraw £5k. The guy just happens to have £5k in the bank, just happens to have photo ID, the bank are quite happy to hand over such a large sum of money? I didn't buy it, sorry. I like Derren, he's a great showman and I think some of his smaller tricks are genuine. But a lot of the 'bigger' shows, I refuse to believe he'd leave them to chance. And the casino one which 'went wrong' was obviously just to bring back the suspense element, which is lost if everything always goes the way it's supposed to.
