God I'm finding it hard to watch. I don't remember finding the book so heavy going, but I did read it five years ago.

doesn't appeal to me at all

CaveMum · 24/07/2011 21:55

I'm watching. I understood that the book was far more harrowing and graphic?

CarrieOakey · 24/07/2011 21:57

I am watching as I couldn't finish the book!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/07/2011 21:57

I was watching but have just turned it off. I read the book and found it ok. The film was harder so far.

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 21:58

Cavemum - I can only think that the reason the book didn't move me quite so much was because I read it during a stressful time before children! Perhaps it did move me, I do remember it being pretty harrowing but I couldn't even watch the abduction and murder, I had to turn over!

(Pleased to see I'm not the only one watching this btw!)

Book is better, though I am enjoying the film.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 24/07/2011 21:59

I never read the book. I like the thoery of the story line, ut the actual film is boring and it drags on. I want to try the book to see if it is any better :)

GeraldineAubergine · 24/07/2011 21:59

I don't think it's a heat adaptation tbh. Mr Harvey is sinister though.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 24/07/2011 21:59

theory

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 21:59

Gwendoline - OK, pleased to see I wasn't a callous bitch at the time of reading the book! I was beginning to doubt my humanity!

OP posts:
GeraldineAubergine · 24/07/2011 21:59

Heat should be great

ILovePonyo · 24/07/2011 21:59

I'm watching and also finding it difficult, I'm another one who read the book pre-dd and now find things like this much harder going :)

fivegomadindorset · 24/07/2011 22:00

No, I struggled to watch it on DVD, just thought it an awful adaptation and was dull. The book is so much better.

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:01

Actually Ilove - I've got a bit confused and muddled up. I did read the book during dds, I think I read it while I was bfing dd2... still they were a lot younger then....

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:03

I seem to remember the book being a lot more factual and less fantastical.

OP posts:
mumatron · 24/07/2011 22:10

I want to say I'm enjoying it but that seems wrong to say somehow Confused

Haven't read the book but I think I will.

Is the book a bit less fantasy-ish then?

mumatron · 24/07/2011 22:12

Ah, fantastical is a much better word! Blush

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:13

I don;t think they book was anything like this...
It's all going a bit crap actually. Why do the parents and grandmother look so ridiculously young?

OP posts:
TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:14

Excuse typos Blush

OP posts:
TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:14

oh yes, fantastical. A great word. It trips off the tongue!

CaveMum · 24/07/2011 22:15

I haven't read the book, I just vaguely remember Peter Jackson saying he didn't want to include the rape and murder scene in the film as a) he didn't think (rightly IMO) that anyone would want to see it and b) because he was concerned that it would be too much for the young actress to deal with.

scurryfunge · 24/07/2011 22:15

Yes enjoying is perhaps the wrong word! Appreciating a different perspective, I think.

RandomMess · 24/07/2011 22:17

I was very glad I had a mouse to catch at the worst point, never did I think one of the cat's living gifts could be so pleasant.

TheBolter · 24/07/2011 22:25

Cavemum - oh was there no 'scene'. I turned over when I thought it was coming...
