Portblack - maybe it's just me. There is a genre of shitey chick lit that involves the same plot - divorce, woman ends up in country cottage, has no money so sets up business based on her skill set. Always ironing, growing herbs, domestic concierge or similar. Then meets a hunky vet etc etc.
Helen's idea grated because it seemed to just follow that pattern - making money out of 'housewife' skills.

HoneyDuke I am totally with you on the feminist front, believe me, but I don't see why Helen in particular is to be vilified. It's not as if she's the first or only woman to do this on the Apprentice. Couldn't we argue that Susan's idea, being based on the inherently sexist beauty business, was even worse for feminism?

So so so glad Tom won! Totally deserved it!

All the current chick lit novels have women quitting the rat race to run their own cupcake cafes. There are at least 4 that I've seen.

Plus seems unfair to not acknowledge that for the rest of the series, Helen has actually done her gender quite a lot of good by showing how competent, calm and organised a businesswoman can be, and how being a PA actually teaches people a lot of useful business skills.

It was just Helen's massive contrast from the very business look she had all series. Pretty woman, but in a program about the best business idea, it pissed me off that all the women have been in tight dresses, whilst the men remained in their business suits, and Helen was.the most able female candidate, but had the most marked dumbing down make over wise.
