Aitch, that's good to hear.

I've not seen any of it this time, but will make the effort this week then.

I like Born to be Different.

I dont think its exploitative and it has a wide range of disabilities.

The families are from different backgrounds and all deal with things in different ways.

I think it is an excellent way for people to get an insight into the lives of children with disabilities.

I have watched all the programmes so far and have been looking forward to the latest one.

DillyDaydreaming · 05/06/2011 20:52

Catmilk - I have gone through anger at your post and am trying to be charitable - are you trying to say these families are being exploited in a voyeuristic way? If so then your wording was appalling and read as though you were being offensive... just saying.

DillyDaydreaming · 05/06/2011 20:53

Darn it - what did smlo write which has already been deleted? Amazing that whatever it is has gone but catmilk's post is allowed to stand.

lottiejenkins · 05/06/2011 20:54

Dont know what smlo's comment was but MODS were quick to delete that weren't they.......................Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 05/06/2011 20:56

Does she mean that - or does she mean that C4 are making it into a freak show?
That's how I read it, but maybe I'm just too naive

DillyDaydreaming · 05/06/2011 20:58

I am wondering that too stealth - I read it in a very offensive way though and wonder if it may just be badly worded.

5inthebed · 05/06/2011 20:58

I dont think that is what she meant, I don't read it that way.

scaredoflove · 05/06/2011 21:00

If you have seen the other series you would know that it isn't shown in a 'freakshow' way. So far it has been honest, open, realistic and filmed with compassion. For anyone to see it as a freakshow is freak themselves

lottiejenkins · 05/06/2011 21:01

She MEANT it to be offensive......... I have no doubt about it!!!

StealthPolarBear · 05/06/2011 21:01

oh fair enough I have never seen it. I do see adverts for shows like "World's fattest man" though and am a bit Hmm that this is a modern day freakshow.

DillyDaydreaming · 05/06/2011 21:02

I have yet to see it so wasn't sure how it was filmed - it looks very good though and not an exploitative programme.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/06/2011 21:03

Thanks for the heads up about born to be different being back on.

We don't have SN kids but I work as a physiotherapist and I never cease to be amazed by what these amazing children and their families achieve.

Catmilk - I too will be reporting your comment. Your choice of words is offensive and unneccesary

ginmakesitallok · 05/06/2011 21:03

I think you are being too harsh on the OP. I read her post to mean that most of these sorts of docudrama things do make freaks out of people who are different and that lots of people watch them for the same reasons the Victorians went along to freak shows. I can't comment on this show as I've never seen it.

Whippoorwhill · 05/06/2011 21:04

Catmilk, that was a snide and unpleasant comment and I'm really quite hurt that you think children like my son are 'freaks'.

I have reported the post but see from earlier comments that MN aren't removing it. Shame. :(

lottiejenkins · 05/06/2011 21:04

Too Harsh my arse!!!

DillyDaydreaming · 05/06/2011 21:06

gin I am trying to be charitable about the post - I hope she was just having a busy moment whrn she posted and so worded it badly. Am hoping she will return and tell us she didn't intend it to read as it did.

Smlo · 05/06/2011 21:07

My comment was a personal attack on catmilk. Thought that was allowed. She'd kinda set the tone

Anyway tara mumsnet. I've posted loads over the years in various names. Some of it nicely creamed off into books. The fact the inflammatory original comment stands speaks volumes

ginmakesitallok · 05/06/2011 21:08

lottie - do you have some sort of psychic powers or something that you know what the OP meant?????

scaredoflove · 05/06/2011 21:08

Harsh? IF you haven't seen the programme why do you automatically assume that a show about children with disabilities would be anything like a freakshow??? A child with a disability should NEVER be seen as a freak by anyone - EVER!!!!!

We live with this everyday all day, we have to accept the stares, the hushed speech, the pulling of children away from our children - we don't have to accept some ignorant twat spouting bullshit

thebeansmum · 05/06/2011 21:08

...Catmilk? Hello? Too ashamed to reply, crawled under a stone embarrassed by a truly awful post I hope.

TheOriginalFAB · 05/06/2011 21:10

ginmakesitallok - I am the OP and I did not make the comment.

OP posts:
Marne · 05/06/2011 21:11

I found Catmilks coment very offensive, i hate the word 'freaks' and i find it upsetting that people like catsmilk see our children as freaks Sad, i have also reported her post to mn hq and i don't understand why they have not removed it but have removed other people posts for saying how they feel about this offensive person (trying to put it nicely without getting too angry Grin).

Oh and is'nt it funny how she has not come back to explain herself (wimp springs to mind).
