Apparently the original Swedish series, Series 2. I haven't seen any of these before but I am v excited to be filling that little Scandinavian hole left by The Killing.

Anyone else fancy watching?

No he didn't, Highlander!

Highlander · 30/05/2011 19:35

he did!!!!! Remember they found him dead in the chair? Cue Linda sobbing etc etc?

Ola Rapace has split from his wife. Bit of a bad apparently; coke and all that.

Highlander · 30/05/2011 19:35

sorry, should read 'bad boy'.

Must have missed the episode where Stefan kills himself - sure I'd have remembered that. What was the reason?

Was the actor in RL married to the lead in Dragon Tattoo?

TwoIfBySea · 01/06/2011 13:44

clangermum, it was really tragic, Stefan had been targeted by a paedophile when he was younger and ran into him again in a case where he crossed the line. It was so sad.

He is married to "Lisbeth" from The Girl... movies - Swedish ones that is!

Oh no, Highlander, just read what you said about the actor who played Stefan (Ola Rapace) splitting up with the actress who played Lisbeth in the Millennium movies (Noomi Rapace). I knew they were married but didn't know they had split up. How sad.

Highlander - another Jo Nesbo fan here!

On Wallander, I've read all the books but missed Series 1 of the Swedish TV version. Just started on Series 2, which we're enjoying so far. Can anyone tell me what happened to Ann-Britt, who was a major character in the books - did she depart the scene/ Ystad in Series 1??

Am liking the characteerisation of Ebba.

Also interested that, in the TV series, Wallander has been 'allowed' to have his house by the sea and his dog, whereas in the books those remain just dreams, never realised. So I guess the TV verion is a bit more upbeat, in that respect at least.

polyhymnia I think most of the books were written in the 1990s whereas the TV series are set a little later and follow on from the books. Apart from the first episode, Before the Frost (where his daughter Linda graduates from police training college). The other episodes are storylines by Henkell but not based on the actual books, so Ann-Britt doesn't feature in it. In series 2 he is close to retirement and back as a main character but with Isabelle and Petrus the young leads taking over from Linda.

However, the books have also been made into films in Sweden with Rolf Lassgard, and three of these were on BBC4 last Christmas.

Thanks, much clearer. Had realised the TV series were specially written not adapted from the books, but, because they keep some characters - Martinsson and Ebba - was wondering where others were. Explained now.
