I didn't see the programme but I can tell you the adoption process is an emotional rollercoaster for all concerned.

I have fostered many children and helped prepared 3 of them for adoption. It is the most heartwarming yet heartbreaking thing I have ever done in all my life.

codKEMP · 03/11/2005 22:20

oh thank god she is now feisty bird

expatinscotland · 03/11/2005 22:26

I'll bet you cod was crying like a little girl w/a scraped knee .

Fauve · 03/11/2005 22:28

No I was FauxVampire till Halloween - keep up

Feistybird · 03/11/2005 22:28

JT - no, not Fauve (how do you pronounce that, is it one of those Gaelic names?) I'm Feiystbird - god, I knew it was a bad idea, promised meself she wouldn't get me, that I wouldn't be bullied into changing....

Fauve · 03/11/2005 22:30

No Fauve rhymes with mauve.

Feistybird · 03/11/2005 22:32

depends on how you pronounce mauve of course....

Fauve · 03/11/2005 22:35

Hove as in Brighton & Hove?

Feistybird · 03/11/2005 22:43

yep, gottit, ta. what does it mean, why did you choose it?

JoolsToo · 03/11/2005 22:45

oh Lord - bloody namechangers - its me age

whatever - I prefer mum2girls

Mum2girls · 03/11/2005 22:47

I'm so fickle.

peckarollover · 03/11/2005 22:49

aha! found this thread. Just started another one by mistake.

It reaaaaaalllllly got to me this - I am a weeper usually anyway but I was properly crying. They were all just so lovely - Rhiannon reminded me of my DD.

Wonder if the gay dads managed to keep the house so pristinely tidy after the arrival of Daniel!

I have always thought about fostering but I am only 24 - do you have to be an old to be considered?

I think we will definitely have at least one more child but it seems almost selfish to have another of our own when there are so many needing a mum and a family and someone to love them.

Fauve · 03/11/2005 22:49

Well, it is linked to 'names which were too pretentious to give to your kids but you liked a lot' - Fauve is used as a girl's name; it means 'wild beast' in French, but also there is a school of art called Fauvism, and the artists are Fauves. In fact, there's a Fauvist exhibition on at the Courtauld at the moment which is featured on a Culture Vultures thread if you want to have a look. I like Fauvist art, but I really luuuuurve Fauve as a girl's name, but would not have given it to dd for fear of opening her to derision and spelling confusion.

Oh and I'm a Leo, so wild beast is fitting, esp when angered

Feistybird · 03/11/2005 22:51

bloody hell, wish I'd never asked....

Fauve · 03/11/2005 22:53

But it is another possible use for names you loved but were afraid to give your kids. Adopt them as your MN name. Or - cruelly - adopt some kids and give them funny names Only joking there.

Feistybird · 03/11/2005 22:55

lol!

Marina · 04/11/2005 14:42

I thought this was a lovely programme featuring three gorgeous children, both dh and I were really gripped, and a bit teary at the end.
I also thought that the foster parents, and all the other kind, patient, unselfish people involved in helping these children find lasting love again, were just inspiring. Like good deeds in a naughty world.
I could not suppress a smile at how quickly Daniel got a substantial and glossy style makeover from his new dads

bosscat · 04/11/2005 14:48

was sobbing all way through. totally finished me off with 2 boys from next weeks programme. thought it was very uplifting and has made me seriously think about fostering which I have thought on and off about for a few years. even dh who said it was a "cynical and exploitative of the children" changed his mind by the end and said it was very heart warming and he was wong. aren't foster carers amazing. and people who adopt. those kids .......

jayzmummy · 04/11/2005 14:48

I watched and had a quiet weep.
We went through the adoption process and today my sister is going to panel to hopefully be approved.
Ive sat waiting for the call all day from her to tell me she has been approved and that I am going to be an Auntie.
Just hope and pray that all is going well for her, she will be a fantastic mother with so much love, time and patience to offer.

bakedplotato · 04/11/2005 15:00

Did not watch it, but the review in today's Guardian just made me sob

Fauve · 04/11/2005 15:07

It'll be fantastic if the programmes lead to more people considering adoption, and applying to adopt.
