Loving it; all you who posted in November 02 on Property Ladder, who bitched and carped and believed everything you saw and heard! And a mum friend of mine saw your comments. Don't you know everything on that programme is staged and changed? Don't you know everything is done to keep the expert looking like the expert, a woman who inherited her properties and has never done up a house in her life!! Well, who's laughing now, eh??!! The blonde who knew she'd sell to a gay couple and did, who knew the roof wouldn't come up on survey and saved herself £2000, who didn't 'rip out' any fireplaces as all except one were 1960's gas fires, the one who only paid £2500 for the Intoto kitchen, but Property Ladder wouldn't show the discount, the one who sold it for £190,000, and the one who admits the bathroom was crap!!! The skinny blonde with a portfolio of £2m because she DIDN'T listen to the experts. So ha ha ha he he he, you bunch of negative mums, get a life and get out there and have a go, instead of bitching over your keyboards.
Oh and 'Tinker', men are such pitiful fools, 'ruined his life', what a pile of tosh

Well, I have to say you did do very well and I am frankly amazed that you seem to be bursting with confidence on screen but clearly less so offscreen.
Glad you've ditched the graveyard chippings though.

I'm so jealous I want to be a millionaire property developer I'm not brave enough though

MrsSpoon · 01/11/2005 22:07

MrsSpoon rubs hands in glee, have this on tape to watch once DH stops watching his rubbish film! I remember it from the first time (the thread and the programme.

I am assuming miasi is Sian and if you are doing well then great, surely if you have any complaint with SB you should be taking that up with Channel 4 or the press.

FWIW I think SB is fab, I'm not a developer but have been doing up houses for over 10 years now (and have made a little bit of money out of it) and I think most of her advice is spot on, particularly when it comes to preparing a house for sale (much less tedious and far more practical than the House Doctor).

zippitippitoes · 01/11/2005 22:11

I'm more interested in how you came to own a damp proofing business, I think that was the most impressive part of the show

emmatom · 01/11/2005 22:25

Yes, I admire your hard work, I admire that in anyone.

What is not admirable is your gloating. A bit of humility goes down very well.

As someone else said in a different way, no sensible person puts themselves on a TV show and then expects no feedback, especially when that person portrays themselves as a 'know it all'. Have that attitude by all means if you wish, but therefore accept that others will probably comment on it, possible unfavourably.

MrsSpoon · 01/11/2005 23:32

Just watched the programme, all I can say is you had better hope the property market in the area you have invested doesn't take a nose dive. Seems like a scary amount of debt.

bettys · 02/11/2005 08:14

That's the thing, it's not £1.5 or £2 million in the bank it's all on paper or in bricks, mortgaged, and presumably each property has repayments so if the interest rate were to go up in the future it wouldn't be so rosy.

zippitippitoes · 02/11/2005 08:16

High gearing is the only way that someone of low net worth can make money though, even if it is a high risk strategy..she doesn't seem to have any body to take into account

geekgrrl · 02/11/2005 08:32

miasi - who emailed you the link tro that old thread? With friends like that you clearly don't need enemies.

puff · 02/11/2005 08:46

I'd be impressed if it was a £2m property portfolio owned outright, but people in miasi's position are fairly common these days.

bosscat · 02/11/2005 08:49

I say well done sian! Think she's done really well for herself. She had some great clothes too but then us northern girls are such style pusses Can't figure out why on earth she did property ladder though if she really thinks SB has never developed a house in her life and inherited the houses? Perhaps she found that out after?

Enid · 02/11/2005 08:50

I was talking to dh about this thread last night. I said "ooh do you know that woman has been on mumsnet - she is really upset that everyone slagged her off last time" He just looked at me. I stumbled on "or I suppose it could just be someone pretending to be her to be weird". And he just nodded slowly until I felt like an imbecile.

enid lol. sometimes i laugh out loud at a thread someons has posted and dp ask what's so funny. half way through explaining, i just give up!!! the blank look says it all!!!

bettys · 02/11/2005 09:11

My dp thought it was hilarious that she had come on mn to complain about being slagged off & still got stick for it!

expatinscotland · 02/11/2005 09:12

Well, See-Ann, Sean, Sye-Ann, whatever your name is, I think you need to take some dosh out of that portfolio and sign up for some 'How To Manage Your Conceit' courses. 'Skinny'? You obviously haven't been around my neck of the woods recently! LOL!

flamesparrow · 02/11/2005 09:22

Well I watched.... and finally remembered which one we were talking about. Still hate the bathroom tiles

My question is... how much money does she/do you (if you're still about) actually have? The whole 1.5/2 mil thing sounds all very well, but if 1.49 out of the 1.5 is mortgage then surely its not your money?? I for one would rather do up the properties and work towards being able to live without debts hanging over me, but then I'm one of the crazy types who doesn't want 10 credit cards just because I can.

Oooh, and back to the other point about SB - definately pregnant in those last shots.

homemama · 02/11/2005 09:24

Expat, it's the cold that keeps you lot skinny. The need to burn up so much energy! I'm sure I'm only fat now that I live in the South! (nothing to do with pg or chocolate of course)

zippitippitoes · 02/11/2005 09:24

But everyone who is buying even one house says i have a house worth x

even when they have a masive mortgage

flamesparrow · 02/11/2005 09:39

I tend not to count houses as worth... but tis easier for me cos I don't own one

miasi · 02/11/2005 10:07

You are absolutely right, a portfolio is worth jack if it's too highly geared, and lots of people I know (nostly men) have twenty or so loft apartments with 85% mortgages which were bought at inflated prices, which they can't now rent. Those sort of portfolios are what I consider to be high risk, but are a product of mortgages companies sucking in anyone who wants to have a go at property. It will collapse. I've tired to avoid that. I am 62% geared, which the bank is happy with. And I don't have any credit cards, oh, sorry i do, my trusty B&Q card, does that count? Plus I'm only a step mum, so I feel a bit of a cheat being on here

miasi, good on you for coming back to yet more stick
I am with Aloha, you seem SO confident on the T.V that it's suprising to see you give a toss about what others think.
I'd be mortified too though to find a site all about me. Not that that's ever likely

gingerbear · 02/11/2005 10:13

tell us about the damproofing business miasi, I am intrigued as to how you came to own one!

miasi · 02/11/2005 10:18

Sold franchises for a building firm, liked it, started one with ex, ex turned out to be an arse, bought him out, ran it for another year decided liked doing up houses more than injecting bricks with chemicals which don't work.
Like I said, I ain't Ulrikakaka, used to digs Have to go and paint a skirting and lay some hideous blue tiles now....
