Having a Baby Ruined My Life - On tonight's telly

Earlybird · 24/10/2005 20:36

On Channel 5 tonight at 9pm.

Evidently this "refreshingly honest account of modern parenthood...states that having children makes you poor, old and bad-tempered".

Anyone planning to watch?

clashes with Wife Swap........so not sure.

Hulababy · 24/10/2005 20:37

I feel a bit sorry for the babies/children potrayed on this. What if one of them sees it when a bit older? Wonder how it'd make them feel.

Not planning to watch - I'd probably get cross.

SenoraPostrophe · 24/10/2005 20:40

hb - me too.

do you remember that woman who tried to sue the doctor who had performed a sterilisation operation for the cost of bringing up her baby? I was spitting tacks just reading about it. This is too similar to that.

Being a parent does make you bad tempered though...

MrsMiggins · 24/10/2005 20:41

thought Id swap in between Wife Swap & this - depends how annoying the people are

agree with Hulababy - youd feel awful if you were the child and watched it when older

kinda expect parents to be selfish - dont people realise that things are bound to change?
BUT will try not to judge til I see it

Hulababy · 24/10/2005 20:43

Cab someone report back and see if we are all justified in our judging

MrsMiggins · 24/10/2005 21:07

shit just realised BOTH my programmes have started & Im STILL on MN!!!!

back later!!!

crazydazy · 24/10/2005 21:10

Eight month pregnant lady just stated "the baby will have its own room as the cat and dog sleep in with us" and "if the baby is allergic to animals then we will have to get rid of the baby" said it with a laugh but tbh I really think she means it!!!!

Earlybird · 24/10/2005 21:11

I don't expect it to be uplifting or inspiring.

I guess an hour devoted to families who are thrilled to be parents wouldn't be quite such compelling viewing??

They give this kid cheese balls full of E's and artificial crap and then wonder why he's so full of beans? Duh!

The gal w/the twins is a classic whinger. WTF did she expect?

Earlybird · 24/10/2005 21:41

There's no question, a child causes tremendous upheaval and your life becomes unrecognisable. But, this is a particularly grim lot of people. They don't seem to enjoy their children at all. Part of me hopes there were liberties taken with the editing to suit the program's premise - this is a joyless bunch of parents.

i think some of the things they are saying is true, it just makes me realise im not the only one. we all have up and downs.

mumtojasmine · 24/10/2005 21:45

melsy · 24/10/2005 21:45

aww gawd the twins dad is like gggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr.Poor little one being told his sick up is disgusting. Why can he not change a nappy on his own !

Earlybird · 24/10/2005 21:46

They don't seem to play with their kids at all, and also seem to be completely devoid of humour and a sense of fun.

the girl in tesco why don1t she use straps, or whatever call it to keep little girl with her.
earlybird, you are right they don`t seem like playing and having mum and baby time.

TinyGang · 24/10/2005 21:52

I think most on here have homed in on the child age-group that I found especially tough too ie birth to about 2. However, I tried to cling to the fact that it get's easier and it does. I would never come on a programme and say what they have though. Mostly it's a passing phase and I reckon they'll possibly regret saying some of this on camera - even though we all have moments of despair along these lines.

The parents I truly don't understand though are the ones with the one small little boy aged about 4. Blimey, he sure dipped out on the mummy and daddy front. What a pair of miseries. I feel very sorry for him.

Bomper · 24/10/2005 22:27

I too felt really sorry for the four year old boy. Especially when they were talking about wishing they never had children whilst he was sitting there. Poor little soul.

nutcackle · 24/10/2005 22:29

I liked the lady with the twins, thought she was ok.

Didn't like the poor little boys mom and dad, i mean did they even smile once.

The lady who went shopping without reins, wriststrap or an extra pair of hands was nice but i thought she could help herself a bit more.
Dis she have 2 or 4 kids ?? Only saw 2 but could of sworn she said she'd had 4 when they were on about sex.

Though the pregnant lady was quite scary until she had the baby.
