have watched the previous two programmes (ambulance and bus driver) and they have been really good.
Tonights looks as though it'll be pretty harrowing though...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/02/2011 21:43

Do these women have access to proper contraception I wonder? If they are then trying to give their children away?

:(:(

thekidsrule · 27/02/2011 21:45

its a shocking programme but compelling to

EssieW · 27/02/2011 21:45

They probably don't have access to contraception - it also costs money. Plus they'll be under a lot of pressure not to use condoms for example

AyeRobot · 27/02/2011 21:47

GO LIBERIAN WOMEN!!!!!

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 27/02/2011 21:48

i do wonder at contraception - but they obviously do terminate

hockeyforjockeys · 27/02/2011 21:48

Ali it is very unlikely - contaception costs money so it would be unavaliable to most. I can only speak from experience in another African country but on the whole only condoms would be avaliable, and this is focused on preventing AIDS rather than pregnancy. There is still a lot of suspicion around using them, lots of myths spread plus many men are against them due to masculinity issues, as well as many religious groups being against contraception (e.g. the Catholic church whose doctarine comes from single men in a western country and preached by local priests)

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 27/02/2011 21:50

yet abortions are illegal??

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 27/02/2011 21:51

oh my word WHY ??? NO antibiotics???

hockeyforjockeys · 27/02/2011 21:51

I don't know but they seemed to say most abortion is illegal, I would imagine it would only legal if the mother's life was at risk.

twirlymum · 27/02/2011 21:53

How awful Sad

unclefred · 27/02/2011 21:53

a safe abortion would be outside most people's means

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 27/02/2011 21:53

the absolute tragedy of that
Beautiful Hannah

LadyBlaBlah · 27/02/2011 21:56

There is a total lack of anger with the people - scarily accepting of their situation

Hannah did not make a noise Sad

Eglu · 27/02/2011 21:58

Not seen these shows. What channel is it on?

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 27/02/2011 21:58

i don't think they have the time to take things slowly
they 'push' the babies out because they need to move on to the next one
slowly slowly just would not work with so few resources

Paula - DH and I just said the same thing as well.

And also, that they have so many stillbirths etc that they want to get the babies out asap and see as fast labour and birth as a good thing.

hockeyforjockeys · 27/02/2011 22:04

I think her last comment of how she now slightly resents women who are extremely demanding of epidurals etc. knowing how lucky they are to have the care they do. While we obviously should be using these resources for women here, it does make you think about how the vast majority of women risk their lives giving birth in a way we never do here. Maybe something to remember tomorrow when peope get all het up about the slightest less than perfect moment on One Born Every Minute.

EmptyCrispPackets · 27/02/2011 22:06

Hear Hear Hockey.

iskra · 27/02/2011 22:08

I was really impressed with Suzanne & her attitude actually. Found the programme extremely emotional.
