Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

I agree lal123
I found it so shocking that they could all just party away
and roxy just leaving ronnie in the first place and then to go off with Christian Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2011 21:30

And not even original as Footballers wives did it. Yes ee isn't real but just one time can't they allow happiness.

Ee could have shown cot death and ways of dealing with the grief and distress rather to do a double story line

To lose 1 is dreadful :( but 2 children must be devastating :( -

I think that kat does relise that james isn't tommy and ronnie confess's but not sure when - in a month or 2

girliefriend · 01/01/2011 21:30

Have only watched tonights episode so haven't seen all the build up but I think EE have really gone too far this time in stretching believability and by upsetting so many bereaved parents - its awful. Can you complain online?

deemented · 01/01/2011 21:32

I think a spokesperson from the beeb should come to MN towers and answer to us - their target audience....

Complaint going in from me too. Disgusting.

tholeon · 01/01/2011 21:33

I've just send a note into comments page on the Eastenders website suggesting someone looks at this thread...

compo · 01/01/2011 21:33

Blondes - I think I read it comes out next week

RockinRobinBird · 01/01/2011 21:33

Ha! That I really would pay good money to see. Not a snowball's hope in hell though.

hellymelly · 01/01/2011 21:36

Um..I don't think the grim storylins at Christmas and new year are what make the show popular Confused I used to like Enders for the gripping storylines, yes, but it has got so relentlessly bleak and unpleasant, that I'm no longer bothered about watching it.I hate how silly it has become and how unrealistically unkind all the characters are.No-one at all nice seems to be allowed to live and thrive.I think this storyline is typical in that it has dealt with a truly devastating subject in a completely ridiculous way.I don't at all think "it was good of Eastenders to do the SIDs storyline",how is that true? When there are so many women on here who have been through this and are finding the way its been presented extremely offensive? If the show was altogether more balanced in its content ,then maybe they could have covered this in a way that wouldn't add to the hurt of bereaved families, but that clearly,is not what they have done.My daughters are asleep upstairs, and I know that there is nothing that could ever happen, that would be worse than losing them.To use this to manipulate viewers is tacky and actually,I think, shamful.shame on you BBC,for treating the viewing public so shabbily.

QODrestyemerrykidneystones · 01/01/2011 21:40

I did watch tonight and much as I am disappointed, it did sort of seem not quite so stupid - she did come to her senses and would have put him back if the ambulance wasn't there and if Jack hadn't just arrived.....

Still think it's shite though

mummysmadhouse · 01/01/2011 21:44

ive just wached it and feel shocked angry and upset...they have crossed the line imo, i was planning on watching it a getting an early night but now i cant even sleep after watching Sad

mummysmadhouse · 01/01/2011 21:46

I really hope they withdraw this storyline...but we have heard of many complaints previously about other storylines but they have still continued Sad

christmasrocks · 01/01/2011 21:48

Put my complaint in, if you feel strongly about this please complain, the more of us that complain, the greater our voices. There are posters today who could really do with our support.

AppleHEAD · 01/01/2011 21:58

I lost a baby she was stillborn.... you don't want any baby you want your baby and you never stop wanting your baby. It's a miserable horrible storyline it is something that should be talked about and handled sensibly. Thanks to the bravery of Anne Diamomd it came much more into the public eye and resulted in a drop in cot death. This is horrible

moregranny · 01/01/2011 21:58

Have just complained myself, I have never seen such a load of bloody rubbish in my life ! :(

feralgirl · 01/01/2011 22:02

Clearly the storyline is complete pish and has been atrociously and insensitively tackled but actually, I didn't find it nearly as upsetting as I thought I would (and I'm pg and chocca with cry-y hormones!) I think because it was so badly done it made it less harrowing because it was so totally unbelievable.

I have complained to Ofcom about how poorly it has been tackled.

mungogerry · 01/01/2011 22:04

My complaint is in.

I very luckily have not lost a child to cot death, but to suggest that the mothers first thought is to switch her baby is appalling. It sickens me.

To then go on to portray a story where the mother of the switched baby does not "notice", is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way on the planet that a mother can not pick out her own baby from a million others.

I think it is utterly disgraceful that this storyline has been permitted on the BBC at all, but particularly when it brings so much angst and heartache to so many families who have lost children, and at Christmas and New Year too. Disgraceful.

mummysmadhouse · 01/01/2011 22:04

Just put my complaint in to.

frecklyspeckly · 01/01/2011 22:10

A truly crass and horribly handled storyline.
My neice was stillborn, and as it happens her mum and I often get together on Monday nights to watch the soaps as she lives close by. I am dreading this, i can't watch it, so can only imagine how she will feel.

TheManWhoSoldtheWorld · 01/01/2011 22:10

Maybe they could do a storyline where an older child dies and the mother swaps them with another of the same age?

No because that would be just as ridiculous as what they have done.

NannyG · 01/01/2011 22:11

First of all I don't appreciate being I never claimed that I am an expert in SIDS,I just don't see what the complaints will do.
Everyone knew this was coming so I don't know why plp are outraged by it.

Yes it is a very upsetting issue and I wouldn't wish it to my worst enemy but it is a soap and they worked closely with the SIDS organisation.

I agree that switching the baby was badly done and can understand why people are angry but they did that to fit in with the character.

SilveryMoon · 01/01/2011 22:14

I have put my complaint in to Ofcom too.
I stated how upset I was watching it, how much it saddened me that they seem to have done little research in to how 'normal' people behave after the arrival of a new baby (Ronnie being left on her own, no baby monitors etc etc and other holes in the plot)
And how I feel EE has a responsibility to educate it's audience if they must run these storylines.
How I feel they have caused upset and offense for no cause. As no one is going to learn anything or gain anything from this storyline, I don't think it should have been allowed.
i didn't really know what to say.
i shouldn't think it will matter.
these people clearly don't care about the effect this will have on people or they would have addressed it in a better light

What? Because we know something is going to happen we shouldnt be upset by it?

How does that work? As long as someone warns you they are going to burgle your house you should be alright with that?

And complaining never got anyone anywhere?
Yeah Nelson Mandela is still in prison and you are not allowed to vote Hmm

What utter nonsense you talk.

onadietcokebreak · 01/01/2011 22:19

NannyG don't be deceived that fsid were involved with this. Look at their statement on webpage.
