Did anyone else spot on 2 occasions while waiting to dance Jarrod very gentley stroked Tina head and at the end while everyone was hugging etc he hugged then walked round the group to cone up behind Tuba with his arms round her possiably another romance budding there

And ugh Karas arm looked swollen at the end

NorthernLurker · 18/12/2010 23:05

I don't think Matt and Alesha had a thing - she was getting over her useless ex when she went on SCD and I'm sure I've heard he's gay...?

CeliaChristmasFate · 18/12/2010 23:20

The show dances - oh dear. Matt's was poorly choreographed, Pamela's was ok but too simple and Kara looked slow and clumsy. She normally looks so beautiful and elegant, but in that she looked like the love child of Elvis and Lady Sovereign! Glad she won though. Lovely that Artem kissed her at the end. Bet they get it on at the after show party!!

CaveMum · 19/12/2010 08:41

Northern, I thought the same! But my friend was adament that they had.

MrsKitty · 19/12/2010 09:10

Fantastic result Grin. Was a Matt fan from the start, but as others have said, I think Aliona ruined his potential. Kara was wonderful. Loved that they had a kiss at the end (after some loud encouragement from Goldie and Brendan!)

Roll on next year

NorthernLurker · 19/12/2010 09:20

I didn't like the way they did the showdances mid show - all a bit anti-climax. I think those dances suffered too because they had to learn a new dance as well - which they haven't usually. Such a shame - when you don't even get to see it.

Re Matt/Alesha - I googled last night and it was contestant Matt not dancer Matt - which makes more sense!

CaveMum · 19/12/2010 09:32

Showdance should be the last dance.

If they had stuck to the old format - only two styles of dance per week for the first 7 weeks instead of trying to have four or fice different styles every week - then by the time they reach the Final they will have danced everything once.

ceebeegeebies · 19/12/2010 09:37

northern am confused now Confused Are you saying that Alesha and Matt Baker have had a fling??? Also, I don't think Matt (who she danced with) is gay cos wasn't he married to Nicole (who used to be one of the professionals on the show)? Not that that matters these days Grin

tribpot · 19/12/2010 10:49

No no, Alesha and Matt DiAngelo (he was a busy boy!) not Baker.

There was speculation that Matthew Cutler had only married Nicole so she could get a visa, the marriage didn't seem to last very long although that doesn't mean he was gay!

OP posts:
ceebeegeebies · 19/12/2010 10:54

That makes sense now Xmas Grin I did think it was strange since Matt Baker is happily married and has been for a while (I think).

Snowstorm · 19/12/2010 11:28

I was thankful that the show dances were in the middle because then hopefully the voting public would forget about them and concentrate on all the lovely dances (Kara and Artem's) when it came to the final vote!

Hooray and wheyheyhey for Kara and Artem!

tribpot · 19/12/2010 11:36

Yes but the point of the showdance is to be the pièce de résistance of the night (or crème de la crème, as Kara put it Smile). And those certainly weren't. Normally they're the clincher for the title (rightly or wrongly) - better next year not to do one! I've always thought four dances for the final was too much.

OP posts:
StoodAProleyCattleShed · 19/12/2010 12:04

Agree that four dances is too much: better to reduce the number of dances and make a bigger deal of the showdance ... make it longer so that they can do something really special with it.

tribpot · 19/12/2010 12:18

I think they should also specify a minimum amount of proper ballroom dancing content in the showdance (not sure how you do that) - I'm still having flashbacks to Matt breakdancing. And of course La Wid being hurled around the floor one 'last' time (actually she's going on the tour isn't she?)

OP posts:
TigersChick · 19/12/2010 12:33

I have finally caught up and watched the show Xmas Grin
Soooo happy for Kara and Artem. They are so sweet! Love the way she kept crying in her interview - I'm dosed up to the eyeballs on lemsip which is my excuse for blubbing along BlushGrin

WRT show dances ... they are almost always a disappointment. Perhaps they should in some way temper what they are allowed to do ... either by giving them a style but removing the limits or by assigning them a judge to choreograph Grin

TigersChick · 19/12/2010 12:38

xposts tribpot (not a super-slow typer, just didn't refresh after reading Grin) agree that it's time they did something with the show dances ... just not sure what without running the risk of taking away the element of surprise.

Snowstorm · 19/12/2010 13:00

I've only watched Strictly for the past couple of years ... I know, I know ... can't think what I was doing with my life before that!! but it occurs to me that the showdances need to be upbeat, quirky and fun to win and that anything that's too tame is considered boring and that if any couple come out to do theirs with the girl wearing either a leotard (Lisa) or cat suit (Kara) then as a viewer you need to find a really big cushion to watch the performance from behind. I'm going to trying and erase Kara and Artems from my memory and put it down to a newbie error on Artem's part.

AitchTwoOh · 19/12/2010 13:21

watching now... aliona cannot choreograph for shit, can she?

tribpot · 19/12/2010 13:34

In fairness, I don't think the pros choreograph all the dances themselves.

You're right, though, leotards and cat suits = doooom.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 19/12/2010 13:38

do they not? oh i really thought they did. thanks for correcting that. so do the pros all pitch in?

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 19/12/2010 13:40

Imo they should do one dance not danced before and an extended showdance (2.5 mins instead of 90 seconds!), with the final two finishing with their favourite dance. I'd like to see them retain complete freedom with the showdance but give them more time and let them go mad with props and even extra dancers if they want to use them. That way we might end up with some real showstopping numbers instead of the rushed, underprepared acrobatics Confused

TigersChick · 19/12/2010 13:52

Ooh - I like the idea of extending it, they do seem to be a bit of a rush and a tumble don't they... also to bring in other aspects would be fab.

It says here that Kara has torn some ligaments in her arm Xmas Sad

tribpot · 19/12/2010 14:06

Poor Kara, hope she's feeling better soon.

Actually I'm not sure about the choreographing - they do get coaching, as Wiki says, which isn't the same thing. But I do wonder if they simply could have time to do all that choreography with the amount of training they have to do as well.

This does not detract from the fact Matt's showdance was dreadful.

I like the idea of extending it and letting them use props and stuff. I really do think this format isn't working.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 19/12/2010 14:10

i just do not warm to aliona, which is weird because in the group dances she is such a firecracker and really draws the eye.

tribpot · 19/12/2010 14:13

No, well the problem is (as has said on here before) she seems to think the dance is about showcasing her skills, which is so not what it is for Strictly. Very frustrating.
