yes Shaxx - the books are very different and a quick and easy read.

Ilythia · 20/11/2010 09:45

I would definately read the books, they are brilliant. And Book 5 is

In the books lafayette is very different, shall pm you just in case anyone doesn't want book spoilers

anonacfr · 20/11/2010 09:52

Please! I'd heard that I want to know how different he is. I think he's a great character in the series.

Ilythia · 20/11/2010 10:34

Have done. SorryGrin

MooMinCow · 20/11/2010 14:48

sorry is book 4 Dead to the World you need to read if Eric floats your boat - I would buy it for one chapter alone (dreamy sigh)

Ilythia · 20/11/2010 17:28

Is it book 4? I dont care, its the one that falls open on a certain chapter Grin

constantlytired · 20/11/2010 20:24

I think it may be book 4, i love this one and the shower scene.....wow!....I love Eric, and i'm in mid-thirties!!

Shaxx · 20/11/2010 21:10

Well seeing as he's 34, Its allowed Grin

I will check out the books.

I met someone this evening who's a True Blood fan and she was actually jealous of me because I've not seen series 3 yet and have that to look forward too. She's watched it all. There are some hardcore followers out there!

Liv77 · 20/11/2010 23:21

It's perfectly reasonable to have a crush in your 30's. To have one on Eric just proves you have good taste Grin

I must have raved about book 4 to too many people when I'm at work, my library now has a waiting list for it. So it now bears an Item In Demand, label. How very apt.

My DS is now 2.5 and also called Alexander, so even before I saw True Blood I knew that all Alexander's were great Grin

Mamathulu · 21/11/2010 04:50

Ooh that's a good point - I wonder if I can get some name inspiration for my DC4 (who's about to be born any minute) from either the characters or the series - DC2 has the names William James Michael from family & various authors and secretly tv stars. I know they're not incredibly unusual though, so I think I managed to get away with it!
But back to the point at hand, I'm definitely going to have to get my DH to stick all 3 seasons on the laptop - brilliant material for breastfeeding in the middle of the night! I have read all the books, but to be honest, although they're a nice easy read, I found them far lacking in character depth, plot and logic compared with the series. (Don't shoot me, I did enjoy them, just not as much as the tv version!)
And as for totty, I don't think I've ever seen a series with as many fanciable characters as this - although Alcide is currently my favourite as he has the same colouring, dark eyes and beard of my DH!!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 21/11/2010 07:09

Eric is my favourite - I have read book 4 several times (well, certain parts).

Season 3 was sub-par, IMO. Very gory, not enough sex. I'm impressed with Alcide as a character, he has worked out better than I thought he would, and there have been some fabulous bits - Russell Edginton is quite franky amazing but some of it has been tosh this year, NOT enough Eric.

Beeell and Sookeh can get lost as well. In fact, 40 mins of naked Eric with some cameos from Pam and Sam and some others would be good Grin

Liv77 · 22/11/2010 17:49

Good luck with DC4 mama, I'm expecting DC2 and am also prowling the TV credits for inspiration.

bintofbohemia · 22/11/2010 18:01

Oooh, Alcide looks worth watching.

I dunno if I can wait until I finish the books, I might have to start watching the first series already...

anonacfr · 22/11/2010 18:09

Not enough Eric???? Damn I was looking forward to Season 3.... I still haven't watched the end of the second season, I just hope they get rid of Marianne, I can't bear her and her boring orgies.

Shaxx · 22/11/2010 21:52

What about Sam?? Is there lots of Sam?
I can cope with not enough of Eric only as long as there is plenty of Sam.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 23/11/2010 11:14

No, there isn't that much Sam, and what there is of him is mostly taken up with a really annoying storyline that just won't go away. Sam is not his normal self.

Most of season 3 is taken up with Bill and Sookeh, and a load of other stuff with the vampires that I don't want to give away. LaFayette is in it a little more.

There are some marvellous parts (will be ambiguous so as not to spoil) - Tara's new love interest is hilarious and a new vampire big shot, also funny (there's a great moment with a soup tureen/punch bowl). Zeljko Ivanek is in it, and he is brilliant in everything he is in. Eric and Pam are great as always. Alcide does not feature very heavily, I assume that they are bringing him back for Season 4, so if they do maybe they will expand more.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 23/11/2010 11:15

that is, Tara's new love interest is not the vampire big shot, I meant to put an AND in there.

Northumberlandlass · 23/11/2010 12:17

Eric. All the way. I like my vamps tall, blonde and viking.

I just adore True Blood, can't wait till Jan 14th AND I now have a 42" screen HD telly. Imagine how big he will be Grin

Agree with the others, if Eric floats your boat...just read book 4 ....

anonacfr · 23/11/2010 12:28

What are the other books like? They're selling the 10 for 15 pounds at my local Waterstones.

Twilight was so awful that I don't know I can face more vampire literature though.

Northumberlandlass · 23/11/2010 12:30

I really like the True Blood books, some are better than others (this is usually the case), but I actually enjoy the stories of the books better than the TV series.

AND you get lots of hot scenes....my imagination is sooo much better than the telly !

That is a really good deal at Waterstones.

If you look in Adult Fiction I think they have a thread for the books, but there might be spoilers.
x

PfftTheMagicDragon · 23/11/2010 12:47

The True Blood books are far better than the Twiglet books. Saying that, Charlaine Harris is not a good writer, there is huge room for improvement. I find them trashily enjoyable and she has created some great characters.

Mutteroo · 23/11/2010 12:48

Eric - yummy
Bill - steaming

Vampires are obviously my thing :o

Liv77 · 23/11/2010 17:54

I would agree they are enjoyable light fiction, they're a lot more humorous than Twilight. The supporting characters are also more interesting and get more to do. It's vampires for Grown ups.
Similar TV comparsion would be True Blood & Vampire Diaries. Both vampires, one for the teens and one for the adults (although I do watch both).

I don't think she's a bad writer, especially compared to some of the god awful "paranormal chick lit/romance I see at work. I would rather poke my eyes out with sticks than have to read another Amanda Ashley "novel"

Shaxx · 23/11/2010 21:11

Pfftthemagicdragon What?? Not much of Sam?
I think I'll go and cry in a corner somewhere.

(I watch vampire diaries too and love it and did enjoy the Twighlight films 1&2 but don't really like the leading girl who's name I can't remember. She's a bit obsessed and used that lovely wolf guy)

PfftTheMagicDragon · 24/11/2010 17:00

Shaxx, Sam is not totally absent but he is wasted, particularly considering how much he is in the books. He has one particular story (and a shite one) and you don't see anything off him outside of the story. I think they do it as a way of revealing more of him and his past/character but it's not done very well.

Also, most of the time he has his clothes on. :P
