as mine just turned 6 and she knows she is not allowed to watch Doctor Who series (adults series) but Sarah Jane Ad is similar to D who and my dd1 said its really good and is not scary. I just thought its a childrens version of D who, till i saw it this afternoon (ive never really watched it properly), there was a Lord Voldemort look-a-like (out of Harry Potter) was on, but worse as it had fangy teeth and no eyes!! eeekkkk!!

It was only cos my mum by chance was visiting and said the SJ adventures is scary and i said "Dont be silly mum, its not!", till i saw it Shock

am i over re-acting for my 6 yrs old??

dd1 watches it. She is almost 7. Although she is not very sensitive to 'scary' things.

serenity · 27/10/2010 15:22

Well my 6yo watches Doctor Who, so I don't have any issues with SJA!

Doctor Who is a family show and quite firmly marketed towards children (toys, games, magazines) but at the end of the day if you feel it's too scary for your DC, then you know best Smile

hattymattie · 27/10/2010 18:41

Different kids - different sensitivities - mine all watch both. That said my 8 year old was terrified of recent moving statues on Dr Who and took to his bed!! So I guess it depends what the monster is - vulture/parrot on SJA yesterday looks like a stuffed toy!

biglips · 28/10/2010 15:24

well my dd1 is happy to watch this and she is not sensitive in most of the movie...ie Nanny Mcphee 1st movie! i had a word with dp when he came home and said its ok as not too scary...maybe im a wimp! [hgrin]

16! well it's related to Dr Who isn't it?

Liv77 · 28/10/2010 16:49

My DS is 2.5 so much to young for anything like this yet but we still have to Sky+ it for DH and he is 40 Hmm

jonicomelately · 28/10/2010 16:52

DS2 watches it with his older brother. They are 4 and 9. It doesn't bother him at all. I think he knows it's just a story.

Jbck · 28/10/2010 16:52

DD been watching Dr Who since 6 but we vetted and censored if necessary. Been watching SJC but we don't censor, must admit there were a couple of yuck bits in the last oneI saw. She's just turned 9 and been fine with them both.

We always said the first nightmare she'd not get to watch again.

wholelotofarse · 28/10/2010 16:54

4, 5, 7 and 30 Blush

lollipopshoes · 28/10/2010 16:56

16, 6 & 5

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/10/2010 16:58

I think DS (nearly 7) watches it sometimes. DD is 5 and so is likely to have been in the room when it is on but I don't think she has taken it in.

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 17:01

dd 4 watches it

systemsaddict · 28/10/2010 17:05

I think actually the monsters in Sarah Jane are often if anything scarier than the ones in Dr Who ... but then I am an expert as ds now aged 4 has been obsessed with both since age 2, and watches them incessantly. I think it depends on the child; there are other things he finds scary, but not these.

It was a bit embarrassing when he brought the 'Dr Who: Monsters compendium' into nursery as his favourite book on World Book Day though! and when they had to get the technicians in to block the CBBC website, as he kept getting onto SJA from CBeebies and scaring the other children Grin

RiojaLover75 · 28/10/2010 17:06

DS 5 just watched it. So did I (aged 34) it was very good Grin

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 28/10/2010 17:13

I've never seen it, neither has dd. But we sit down and watch Dr Who together. She is 3. Grin

Lydwatt · 28/10/2010 18:40

5 and 3.5 (and 41 :) )

I think with the younger kids the scariness goes over their head some what... its quite age specific and about what presses their particular buttons. My dd finds numberjacks far scarier than SJA or DW

Scooby wasn't scarey..then it was...now it isn't again...go figure!

SandStorm · 28/10/2010 21:40

My 7 (nearly 8) year old DD watches it as does my 12 year old DD (although she will deny it). I have to admit I think it's one of the best programmes on TV at the moment.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 28/10/2010 21:40

4, 6 & 36 Smile

activate · 28/10/2010 21:41

my 6 to 16 year olds and me love Sarah Jane

if she wants to watch let her, if she doesn't do something else

don't see the issue myself

bigchris · 28/10/2010 21:42

4 and 6 here

emmab5 · 28/10/2010 21:47

4, 10 & 38! We are big Dr Who/SJA fans in our house.

DS who is 4 loves the monsters and complains if they are not scary enough Grin

LIZS · 28/10/2010 21:50

I find SJA almost creepier than Dr Who - perhaps it is the suburban setting and characters.

TheFallenMadonna · 28/10/2010 21:52

My 6yo watches it in the way Dr Who was traditionally watched - from behing the sofa - or at least a cushion. She prefers to watch it in the company of big brother (9)

zisforzebra · 29/10/2010 00:11

7 and 8. We all love it though. DH missed the two episodes with Matt Smith in this week as he was at work so he watched it on the iplayer!

Jas · 29/10/2010 00:41

4, 10 and 11, but they also watch Dr Who. The 11 yr old self censors as she is easily scared but the other two watch it all.
