littledawley there are lots of LOVELY state schools you know

formerdiva · 22/09/2010 22:27

Grin FioFio - hilarious!

I won't be sending my children to boarding school as I quite like them. But each to their own...

Docbunches · 22/09/2010 22:28

I noticed that as well FioFio - I actually couldn't quite believe my ears!

carriedababi · 22/09/2010 22:28

little dawley.

thanks for your reply.

i just feel that the fact the children want to do well, and try hard must be a key factor in how well they do.

i've heard people say teaching is 90% crowd control 10% teaching,[i'm not saying that's true, just what i hear] well if you don't have to waste so much time dealing with children that are messing about on purpose you can really go on with teaching.

plus the facilities and class sizes.

i am really going to consider this for dd.
not boarding though.

littledawley · 22/09/2010 22:29

I do know that notanotter- I really didn't mean to imply that there aren't. Having taught myself though, I know the impact of a simple fact like a class size of thirteen.

yes i also lol at the shakespere comment

and the comment that at state school children do not have chairs and have to sit on the floor

lol

LynetteScavo · 22/09/2010 22:30

carriedababi - a very balanced post!

NotanOtter , yes there are lots of lovely state school, you just have to search for them; it's not always the Ofted "outstanding" ones.

There are also some crappy private schools.

TheCrackFox · 22/09/2010 22:32

Dh was five and boarded in the same city and only went home in the holidays. Apparently he could see his family home from one of the windows.

His father and younger brother were quite ill but still, he was so young.

littledawley · 22/09/2010 22:33

I think that my concern when teaching was for those middle children. I had to give so much time to the children who were struggling and the high fliers and worried that there simply wasn't enough time for the hard-working children in the middle. (I think that DS would be in that category).
Add to that the amount of bullshit paperwork required, it became a difficult job and I admire a hone who does it. DS's teacher has just moved to private from state and just can't believe how much time she has with the children.

of course children should grow AWAY from parents - that is why teenagers are VILE

children shown here should be parented

MollieO · 22/09/2010 22:35

carrie that comment was from a boy who had transferred from state school!

littledawley · 22/09/2010 22:35

when Louis (?) was crying and homesick he NEEDED physical affection imo

that is human....focussing on the afternoons sport only serves to thicken the skin and the resultant young man i believe will be worse off for this

i didn't think that was that young. My grandmother went at 18mo. to protect her older sister who ws 4 and being bullied due to her asthma. we think this was really because their Dad was violent - relatives were willing to pay.

carriedababi · 22/09/2010 22:55

how many terms are there in a year?

brimfull · 22/09/2010 22:57

3

carriedababi · 22/09/2010 22:58

thanks.

MollieO · 22/09/2010 22:58

Louis was a weekly boarder which means he would go home Friday to Sunday. A lot easier than someone like Dominic who wouldn't even get to go home on exeats let alone every week.
