Yes, I'm watching. Not sure I should though......

insertexpletive · 23/08/2010 20:37

I am watching too - from behind my cushion as feel I am going to end up having to defend my profession (again) Sad

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:39

insetexpletive Are you a social worker then?
I'm studying a diploma in social work with children and families and when ds2 starts full time school, I want to start my degree.
Sometimes, not sure why!

MoreSpamThanGlam · 23/08/2010 20:39

Are you a social worker?

I think Panorama has dumbed down recently. It is so one sided and the level of reporting is biased. I keep expecting Jeremy Kyle to jump out.

picc · 23/08/2010 20:41

i don't think you have to defend them (assume you're talking about Social Services)

it must have been horrific for the parents. even watching this makes me just want to cry. just can't imagine what they must've gone through.

but what should SS have done? he had broken bones. and signs that this wasn't the first time.

horrible. horrible. scary and sad....

insertexpletive · 23/08/2010 20:42

Yes, social worker by trade but have been an IRO now for a number of years.

LauraNorder · 23/08/2010 20:42

I think social workers have possibly the hardest job - they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. You have to feel for these poor parents though Sad

Medicine is sooooo subjective isn't it.

watching as feel as i should. am also sw. bated breath :-(

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:44

What's an IRO (just out of interest)?

I just can't begin to imagine how awful this must have been for them.
Both my boys are fidgety sleepers and I often find ds2 with a leg stuck in the cot bars.
Frightening

CheckingCheques · 23/08/2010 20:44

Is there an outcome to this case? Not sure I can cope with watching this if there is not a happy enduing Sad

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:45

here we go........

LauraNorder · 23/08/2010 20:45

My DD (18 months) is so adventurous, she climbs anything and everything, I worry so much she is going to fall and hurt herself. I try so hard to constantly supervise her but she is a minx! It's a scary business Sad

CheckingCheques · 23/08/2010 20:46

Oh thank god!

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:48

not over yet CC

sungirltan · 23/08/2010 20:48

eh??? i thought the case was dropped?

CheckingCheques · 23/08/2010 20:48

Thought the police dropping it was the end - but it wasn't!! Shock

insertexpletive · 23/08/2010 20:49

IRO - Independent Reviewing Officer - I chair meetings that review the care arrangements for children looked after by the LA - foster care, residential care, pre-adoptive placements etc.

LauraNorder · 23/08/2010 20:50

Nightmare insertexpletive what a tough job Sad

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:50

I see.
Sometimes I really don't know why I want to get into this field Sad

squigglywig · 23/08/2010 20:51

Why does it need to be about defending (or attacking) the profession? Surely there are good and bad SWs just as there are good and bad teachers, doctors, hairdressers etc.

CheckingCheques · 23/08/2010 20:51

Phew. It's over. Thank god

sungirltan · 23/08/2010 20:52

squig - sadly though, all the positive social work never gets reported :-(

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2010 20:53

Yes, of course there must be good and bad, but tbf, if you were sent to assess this family, and the 3 month old baby had a broken leg and the parents can't explain it, what would you do?

DuelingFanjo · 23/08/2010 20:53

I am watching. My mum was a child protection social worker for years and so I have always respected the work they do but this programme scares me. I guess we have to keep in mind that this kind of thing happens rarely, doesn't it?
