We like Dollhouse and Flashforward - what else should we watch?

That's it really.

Assuming we are getting DVD boxsets or similar, so it doesn't have to be on TV right now.

All suggestions welcomed.

DP liked Battlestar Galactica - I haven't seen it. I like Glee, but DP won't go in for things where people sing. We've seen Firefly already so the Joss Whedon link is no use.

No suggestions?

We have just started the 4400. 4400 people disappear at various times in last 50 years. All reappear with no memory of being gone at same time.

V - remake of the 70?s series. Aliens arrive- all seems lovely but not!

AnyFuleKno · 29/07/2010 21:09

fringe
lie to me
deadwood
arrested development

mrsflux · 29/07/2010 21:09

Oh and caprica - spin off of battlestar. You don't need to have seen battlestar tho for it to make sense.

southeastastra · 29/07/2010 21:09

beasts from the 70s - look on amazon, very good

TrillianAstra · 29/07/2010 21:13

4400 sounds like the right sort of semi-scifi thing.

AnyFule can you do a description of any of those? (I'm v demanding, I know)

SEA I read that as 'breasts from the 70s

DP sounds most interested in Caprica, probably hoping it has the woman in the red dress in it.

ok mine aren't sci fi but I have a short attention span

fringe is about paranormal phenomena - a better version of the x files

lie to me - tim roth is the lead character - he is a top body language expert and can tell when anyone's lying, it's quite 'sciencey'

I lost the plot with deadwood - it's about a goldrush town in the 1800s and it's really sweary and authentic and ace.

Arrested Development might be the best comedy series ever made, it takes a couple of episodes to 'get' the style but once you do it's fantastic.

southeastastra · 29/07/2010 21:32

tut was trying to be helpful

TrillianAstra · 29/07/2010 21:37

Is it something called 'beast from the 70s' or something called 'beasts' that happens to be from the 70s?

If you have a short attentionspan AFK does that mean that your recommendations will be eay to get into - will have a look into Arrested Development and Lie to Me as they sounds best right now.

"beasts from the 70s"...the phantom pie flinger? roland rat?

TrillianAstra · 29/07/2010 21:39

SEA I got this this - love the picture.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/07/2010 21:42

I'm assuming you've seen Buffy and Angel?

7 Days is ok SF.

Warehouse 13.

True Blood.

The Middleman

Lost

Heroes

Defying Gravity

AnyFuleKno · 29/07/2010 21:42

lie to me is really easy to get into - arrested development you need to get to know the characters a bit so by end of ep 2 you'll have gotten right into it.

It's about a rich family that starts having financial problems but they can't really adjust to their new life. The plots aren't that important though, it's the actors and the fantastic writing that makes it brilliant. And it doesn't hurt that Jason Bateman who's the main protagonist is bloody gorgeous

AnyFuleKno · 29/07/2010 21:44

I am really missing flashforward! At the end of the series I was shouting "noooooooooooo" at the TV because I didn't want it to end

southeastastra · 29/07/2010 21:48

this! really sort of, odd

pauline quirke is in one episode, about a poltergeist in a supermarket

silver28 · 29/07/2010 21:53

Prison break (1, 2 and 3 - not seen 4 yet but heard it's not as good). Very tense and some beautiful men in it. Addictive.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/07/2010 21:53

Being Human, if you've not seen that.

Assume from your interest in Arrested Development and Lie To Me that it doesn't have to be sci-fi/fantasy?

If so...

Veronica Mars (HIGHLY recommend. Not sure whether it ever got shown over here)

[have suddenly forgotten the names of all of the rest of my box sets emoticon]

I shall be back when I've looked in the DVD cupboard...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/07/2010 21:55

(Joss Whedon once described Veronica Mars as his current favourite TV programme, by the way, which is why I originally ordered it)

Oh, yes, Reaper, if it's out on DVD. Criminal that they aren't making a third series. Ray Wise completely rocks it as the Devil.

TrillianAstra · 29/07/2010 22:42

It was really annoying wasn't it AnyFule - I think my criteria for things I like ends up being 'stuff that gets cancelled too soon'!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll investigate

If you like arrested development try better off ted - on fx started his week. Quite similar, has portia de Rossi (?sp) in it and lead guy is rather nice. (like a slimmer George clooney iykwim)

Also like how I met you mother. On e4 series 4 I think.

Fringe is ace!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 30/07/2010 07:37

Veronica Mars is great and so is Fringe. We enjoyed watching Alias, Dexter and Weeds.

phoneyjoanie · 30/07/2010 19:46

K-ville,the new Law and Order,True Blood,Criminal Intent,Medium.
Anything that's on at 9 or 10pm for an hour - about as long as my attention span.

phoneyjoanie · 30/07/2010 19:47

oh yes, a Sat eve of Prison Break omnibus is good too.
