Oooh, hmb, I had a manic morning to begin with! It was peeing down, and I was late, so I decided to drive up (it's a 10-min walk) and of course then the place was swarming with cars and buses and coaches and I couldn't stop or park or turn round and by the time I got in it was nearly 9 (sposed to be there at 8.45 )

And then I forgot I was in the gym and tried to get into the hall, which was empty, even though the teacher showing me the way didn't try to get into the hall, and gave me a jolly little smile and said "just go where I go"! ( again!)

There were 3 separate A2 levels, Geog, Drama and Psychology - I think some of them must have been clashes because there were only about 15 doing Psych - and different-sized answer books - but luckily the 2 women who were there already had it all sorted out and started by 9.11 and it was easy-peasy after that. (There was a certain amount of jockeying for position at the table, we all want to be the boss )

Incidentally, I did a Geog GCSE earlier this week too, and in both Geog exams the teacher told them all beforehand not to do the bit they hadn't studied - well durr! - but also one of the other invigilators said she didn't think they were supposed to be allowed to do that? (Her son was doing the Geog paper today, she said if he only got a D he was guaranteed an A overall because of what he's done already, maybe she thought if they weren't bright enough not to try something they hadn't studied it's too bad?)

Anyway the rest of the week has been good and now I'm off until Friday, and it's all A2s after that at the 6th form just round the corner.

How are they going at your school? And lili and all the other GCSE mums, how are yours?

Hang on, hmb, how come there were 2 of you for 4 of them? Anyway at least it was only 50 minutes, imagine if it had been 90 or 120!

Supposed to be two in case one of the kids faints of something, as we have no way of summoning help without leaving the room.

Next year we will have none! Yippeee! And all thanks to wonderful people like you!

Janh · 17/06/2005 19:34

We are wonderful, aren't we? (And I would be even more wonderful for £7.50 an hour!) The secretary asked this week if I wanted to do it again in January and I said yes - unless I've got an actual job by then - it is really quite interesting apart from the grinding boredom of the bits in the middle! (And I do love seeing those little mites from playgroup all grown-up with stubble and stilettos)(not both on the same student as a rule )

We get a mobile phone to summon help if necessary - I don't know how many they have, obv some rooms have a phone in anyway but if they don't there is a phone in the box with idiot-proof directions (for the benefit of the teacher in charge! Apparently he is the biggest technonumpty in the world so they try out the instructions on him as if he can follow them anybody can). I would guess it's much cheaper than using an extra body for an hour or more, how many would your school need do you think?

Janh · 17/06/2005 19:41

I could, couldn't I, cod? The weather would be nicer too. (Still lowering grey cloud here!) Hm. Will consider.

happymerryberries · 17/06/2005 19:47

Janh, at the moment we are mostly using cover supervisors to do cover, and also to do the exam invigilation. We have also taken on break time/lunch time supervisors. And this week we took on three student support officers who will do all the tracking of behaviour probelms that used to be done by the pastoral HOYs. HOYs are now concentrating on facilitating learning (thought that was what teachers did but hay ho!)

So less non teaching work for us all round
