First proper paper tomorrow - English Literature. My dd is a the moment fast asleep on the couch after reading Blood Brothers and Mice and Men all day.

Who else is suffering at the moment?

Good luck to all of us - parents and children

Oops - I (ahem) composed the following many minutes ago and then forgot to post it - sorry!

DS1 is at the AS-level stage, lili - he had Mice and Men last year! - and not taking it nearly seriously enough. No change there then...

Good luck to DD though, I'm sure she will do fine!

lilibet · 24/05/2005 20:47

She has just decided that she needs to learn some quotes

Good luck to you all. We are only just starting course work (Yr9) so have this all to look forward to

Janh · 24/05/2005 22:24

DS1 had General Studies starting at 1.30pm yesterday - supposed to be there at 1.15 - at 1.10 I suddenly realised he had been quiet for ages, I shouted and he was asleep!

Good job school is only 10 mins up the road, eh?

chenin · 25/05/2005 07:29

Yes - we are going through the same - To Kill a Mockingbird for us. Not much revision has gone on unfortunately but fingers crossed!!!

almostanangel · 25/05/2005 07:31

happymerryberries · 25/05/2005 07:33

Don't forget us, the poor teachers!

I will be teaching the upper sixth this morning, trying (again) to get them to realise that I can't learn this stuff for them and that they actualy have to do some work this time!

almostanangel · 25/05/2005 09:06

I actually wanted it to be a killer and panic her into working hard!

anorak · 25/05/2005 12:59

DD1 just got back from Eng Lit. A 'rubbish' poem by Robert Browning, she says.

She's going to pick up DS (4) from nursery and take him into town for ice cream bless her.

Every now and then she surprises me

suedonim · 25/05/2005 13:49

Dd1 has got her Advanced Higher exams atm, though she's got an unconditional offer for uni so doesn't need these results. But she's recently developed a deeply competitive streak with her two brothers, even though they are 8&12 yrs older so wants to do better than them!

roisin · 25/05/2005 19:06

I know they've only just started, but when do the bulk of the GCSE's finish btw?

lilibet · 25/05/2005 20:01

Dd's finish about the 24th June. she got the poem sometimes by Sheelagh Pugh - which is one of my very very favourites!

((Roisin - quick hijack!!- the book group picked Round Ireland with a Fridge! and I would really recommend it!)

roisin · 25/05/2005 21:55

When they've finished GCSEs to the students have a programme of stuff at school, or are they free to go?

(I'm starting work in secondary school on 13 June, and just wondered whether yr 11s are going to be around much or not.)

I loved "Round Ireland ...", but I can't find our copy. I think I may have sent it to Oxfam, but I want to read it again now. Have you been to Ireland? We love it there.

Janh · 25/05/2005 21:56

No, they've gone, roisin. Is that good or bad for you?

lilibet · 25/05/2005 22:00

dd is only going in for her exams - no classes at all.

What's the new job?

If you would like to lend my copy CAT me and I'll post it to you.

No, never been - he did make me want to see bits of it - see the Do you wnat to Emigrate thread - I'm a home bird!

BTW, didn't realise you were up north! I'm in Wigan, where in Cumbria are you? Not stalking honest

It's good I think. I'm going to be on a very steep learning curve especially at first, so 20% fewer students around should make life a little easier at least.

lilibet · 25/05/2005 22:02

posts crossed Roisin!

roisin · 25/05/2005 22:03

I'm in Barrow-in-Furness lilibet - not the pretty bit!

How old are your children? Do you fancy coming to the meet-up in August? and Janh too?

Janh · 25/05/2005 22:05

Oooh, that sounds nice, roisin - would love to, make me a provisional yes, please. (Will have to check with rest of family to see if any of them will come too.)

roisin · 25/05/2005 22:14

Lilibet - the new job is as a 'departmental learning supervisor' = Teaching Assistant plus extra responsibilities, including class cover when trained in a local secondary school (which is 5 mins walk from my house!)

Departments (2) yet to be confirmed, but probably two out of Maths, Languages, and English.

lilibet · 25/05/2005 22:18

Would love too. No idea where I am going tho' but would love to meet you. Already met Janh

Mine are dd 16, ds's 12 and 8

If your DSs came DS2 would be more likely to come too, lili - do you think we could do a mutual deal?
