Would you ‘let’ your teenager go to a party like this?

This isn’t my teenager involved just seeing what others thing.

I’m talking about 17 year olds. Party is at an air bnb, in the next city. The party host is a stranger/friend of a friend of a friend type thing, and it’s a pay on entry, around 500 people going to be there. Teen would be going with another friend.

No - sounds well dodgy
Yes- they’re nearly adults

From what I was told it was raided. There were loads of drugs, someone ended up getting threatened.

Just all dodgy as hell.

Sounds like a rave to me! Lots of parties my dc went to ‘went wrong’ due to being gatecrashed or an open house.
As for drugs, they’re commonplace at most parties and gatherings, aren’t they?

Franpie · 12/09/2025 17:47

I wouldn’t have like the idea but I would have accepted that there was little I could do to stop her. I would have warned her that it was likely to be shut down by the police but she would have known that anyway.

I probably would have been one of the parents dropping off so that I could check it out from a distance myself, and I would have been on hand to pick her up again when the inevitable happened and it was shut down.

WonderingWanda · 12/09/2025 17:48

Nope but if my dc are anything like me at age 17 they will probably be more careful with the truth by that point!

ThreePears · 12/09/2025 17:48

Those poor Airbnb owners. What a disaster for them. I bet the place was absolutely trashed.

And no, I would never in a million years have let my dc go to something like that.

WatchingTheDetective · 12/09/2025 17:53

I would've had such a battle with my daughter but I know I would've reported it to Airbnb! I'm such a snitch

Thedogandme · 12/09/2025 17:53

Would your teens want to go to a party like that do you reckon?

I do agree the dramatic details might be exaggerated, but it definitely did go wrong.

My DD, definitely! Any whiff of a party and she’s there. My DS, not so much.

I wouldn’t want them to, but yes, I imagine this kind of gathering is all grist to the teenage social mill, as long as it doesn’t impact directly on them. It’ll be the talk of local schools/colleges, no doubt!

Permittedperson · 12/09/2025 17:06

Not a chance. But how would you stop them? How would you even know about it?

This is right. Of course you would not want them to go but teens lie and often it is very hard to find out where they really are

Nearly50omg · 12/09/2025 19:51

I’d have contacted the Airbnb owners and let them know what was going on!!

momtoboys · 12/09/2025 19:56

My answer would be "HELL NO!". :)

TY78910 · 12/09/2025 20:01

I’ve just watched Trainwreck the real project X on Netflix so that would be a no from me 😅

TizerorFizz · 12/09/2025 20:02

Airbnb and 500 people? How? Is it a palace? Obviously it’s a NO!

Lemsipcoldandflu · 12/09/2025 20:03

ImAPreMadonna · 12/09/2025 17:10

I mean, I’d be - and was - all over a party like that at 17. Illegal M25 and East London raves anyone?!

Would my parents have ‘let me’? Probably not.

Did they know and did I go? Nope and abso-fucking-lutely!

This!!!! At 17 I certainly wouldn’t be telling my nearly adult son/daughter what they can’t and can’t do. They will do it regardless.

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 12/09/2025 20:03

Not a chance. A video is circulating around social media where a woman’s air b&b was trashed by teenagers having a party and she’s been beside herself at being left to repair the damage.

TizerorFizz · 12/09/2025 22:54

@ImAPreMadonna Yes. DMs ex neighbour was responsible for many of them. He ended up in prison and most were held in warehouses! Not airbnbs. Not that the waster owned the warehouses of course. 500 people ricking up to an Airbnb is going to be obvious and the police will rock up too.

Beesandhoney123 · 12/09/2025 23:08

No. drugs, drink spiking, getting pissed and doing something regrettable, ending up forever on someone's tik tok thing doing something illegal or silly / being sick.
Going with a friend- don't care. Unless friend is sensible middle aged woman who has eyes on them all the time, not shy about saying ' get lost, creep' doesn't drink, take drugs and forgotten what it is to be young and invincible. But I don't believe I'm invited.

RosyDaysAhead · 13/09/2025 17:58

I would be talking to them about the risks, asking them if they still think it’s a good idea. And if they insist on going then I would let them know they have a free pass to call me to collect them no questions asked

Mine would have wanted to at that age (now 46 next month), and would have gone too. So would I.

Whatever went wrong, it's all over now and nobody died. All part of life's rich tapestry.

Noodles1234 · 13/09/2025 18:06

No chance.

although, honestly, I am sure this will be difficult to implement with some 17 year olds.
part of me would be Apple air tags all over and me sitting in a car outside, and also remembering my youth.

I am sure you’ve bought them up well enough that they know to bail if any issues. Good luck.

Ohdearanotherone · 13/09/2025 18:07

If I knew about it no, but I did this and worse when I was 17 without my parents knowing!

same!

JJMama · 13/09/2025 18:11

an easy no.

JLou08 · 13/09/2025 18:25

I'd let my DC. Mainly because I'd appreciate them telling me so I know exactly where they are. I was going to similar set ups at that age, well not air B&Bs but illegal raves and house parties where I didn't know the host, my parents never knew where I was. I'd guess most 17yo will go with or without permission so it's best to encourage their honesty.

Mrseasy · 13/09/2025 18:26
