Will my 16 year old be fine buying beer on Amazon, (check description)

My 16 year old has took the next step in his life and is now travelling to away games with his pals. Whenever he asks I usually buy him some beer for the train, nothing over the top. However, we are going to the Lake District and he’s getting the train from there next week and as you could imagine I’ve got very little time to go out and buy him some, so I was just wondering about the risks of him buying beer on amazon. He could probably pass as 18 and give a fake DOB when he collects it but I was just afraid they won’t take his word for it and some consequences may come his way like a ban from Amazon. Can anyone give any insight to how strict Amazon are on age verification and ID ect? Thank you x

Surely he could manage without?

ItWasntMyFault · 14/08/2025 20:20

They will want proper ID - driving licence etc. I’ve had age restricted stuff delivered and they even asked me for ID and I’m in my 50’s!

isitmytime · 14/08/2025 20:26

I’ve never been asked for id from Amazon but i definitely don’t look under 25 so they just accept my answer.
however I don’t think a 16yr old should be encouraged to buy alcohol to go to a football game. It’s slightly different under adult supervision but surely he does t need a drink to watch football!

DarkHumour · 14/08/2025 20:26

I’ve been asked to confirm my year of birth, but haven’t been asked for ID, however I’m clearly much older. Is it really worth the risk? I’m sure he can manage one away game without beer.

As someone who used to travel by train a lot as a young girl /woman I actually hate boys /men drinking on trains. They were always the ones who made inappropriate comments. Plus they drink lots then piss all over the loos. Just buy him some soft drinks.

mrsfollowill · 14/08/2025 20:30

Amazon are hot on ID IME- DH and I are mid 50's (and look every year of it) and had to show our passports - they wouldnt just take our word for DOB. Ocado unloaded any alcohol from my shop once as just DS was in- he was 20 at the time but to be fair looked about 15!- the guy didn't even ask him for ID- luckily I was only round the corner so could stop him driving away with my wine.
Can't you order some to be delivered before you go and stick it in the fridge. You can normally get a Morrisons next day delivery through Amazon.

cestlavielife · 14/08/2025 20:32

He does not need beer.

Coconutter24 · 14/08/2025 20:41

They will ask for ID on delivery, your son won’t be able to provide any and the driver will take away the beer

jhmlwos · 14/08/2025 20:56

Is he at home and you are away?

surely it depends on your driver and area. Mine just chuck parcels in the door. Whatever it is. And whether it’s for me or neighbours (three miles) or anyone really!

jhmlwos · 14/08/2025 20:57

Like if he is leaving from a holiday with you in lakes, can you not just get it sent to holiday house and give it to him. Or they have shops there.

Dabberlocks · 14/08/2025 21:16

There are few things worse about train travel than having to share a carriage with football fans who have been drinking.

Yep. A 16 year old should not be drinking. And especially not on a train ffs. Just no. Get some coke or squash!

CrocsNotDocs · 14/08/2025 21:33

A cool mum. FFS.

spoonbillstretford · 14/08/2025 21:36

I don't understand why you can't buy him some, there are shops in the Lake District. However, if he's drinking on the train and using a 16/17 railcard it doesn't seem such a great idea.

Ilikewinter · 14/08/2025 21:41

Is this for real or yet another goading wind up thread!
If it's real then what a legend parent you are FFS.

Tjlz · 14/08/2025 22:26

Amazon will ask for ID on delivery and if there’s no Id Available they should refuse to deliver it

BeachLife2 · 14/08/2025 22:43

There's absolutely no issue with a 16 year old having a few bottles of beer. It's not magically safer the day they turn 18 😂

Other countries don't have this puritanical approach and have far fewer issues with alcohol. It's far better for teens to have a safe supply of beer than be necking dodgy vodka from a mate.

On your question, I can't see Amazon allowing it unfortunately so you will need to get him it.

SriouslyWhutNow · 14/08/2025 22:47

No online shopping isn't a way for underage drinkers to get hold of drinks. Why the purple fuck would you allow this??

They need ID my cousin worked for Amazon and failed a shopper check and got sacked. He never asked the person for ID.

MissHollysDolly · 15/08/2025 06:28
  1. im not sure I can imagine why your holiday to the lakes is going to be so busy you can’t pick up some beer
  2. if your 16 year old can’t cope without a beer for one game, they have an alcohol problem.

Purple fuck?! What are you on about?

RepoTheGeriatricOpera · 15/08/2025 07:06

You realise that you could be putting someone's job at risk because your son apparently can't cope without beer on the way to the football?

I'm not adverse to 16/17yos having a drink at home, but sending a bunch of 16yo lads off on a train with beer on the way to football is fucking stupid.

Don't you have consideration for anyone else, like the person who could be sacked, or all the people on the train who will be intimidated by a group of teens drinking (and, let's face it, probably being loud dickheads) on the train?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/08/2025 07:35

Goodness - my kids are 19 and 17 and when they were 16 I'd allow them a couple of drinks to take to a party or allow them to order something while out for dinner but I'd never in a million years have given them alcohol to drink on a train! Such an unhealthy habit to get into.

My cousins did shopper checks as teenagers, ordering alcohol online or asking for it in shops. Anyone who gave it to them then got faced with the police.

olivietolivie · 15/08/2025 07:38

I order beer on Amazon regularly for delivery and where I am the Amazon drivers rarely even try knocking the door and they just leave the parcels (including beer) in my safe place. I have often wondered whether that is the norm though.
