What did your teen DS eat yesterday?

BlowDryRat · 21/03/2024 13:01

DS is 14. He eats constantly. Yesterday he ate:

2 x pains au chocolat
1 x jacket potato with beans
5 x chicken selects from the McDonald's on his way home from school
1 x share bag of chocolate orange segments
1 x punnet of grapes
2 x clementines
1 x huge bowl of spaghetti and meatballs
1 x poached egg
Probably an apple or two when I wasn't looking.

He usually also "snacks" on huge bowls of Special K, but refuses to use the "strange" milk I picked up from the Co-op rather than the identical milk we usually buy from Sainsbury's.

I'd be interested to see what other teenage boys eat over a normal day. I knew they ate a lot but as I said to SIL, it's like feeding the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Oooh not a clue! I don't monitor their eating.

SpringOfContentment · 21/03/2024 13:13

2 slices of toast, with aprox 1/4 jar marmalade. Gu-pot sized serving of Greek yoghurt.

Flapjack bar.

Sandwich, crisps, veg sticks, cheese string, chocolate bar, apple.

Unknown amount of fruit, cake and biscuits, plus a pork pie.

Chicken casserole, carrots, peas, mashed potato.
Noodles made up with stock left over from casserole.
Treacle tart and cream
My stash of dairy milk caramel button drop things.

Borka · 21/03/2024 13:19

Two slices of toast, two fried eggs, banana, pear,

Flapjack bar

Ham roll, mini chicken skewers, apple, chocolate covered biscuit, carton of juice

3 Maryland cookies, glass of orange juice

Chicken katsu noodles, slice of cake, banana

maudmadrigal · 21/03/2024 13:21

OK, this is what I think he ate:
3 slices fruit loaf; 1 banana
ham sandwich and packet of crisps
cheese toastie, hot cross bun, an apple, a pepper, a carrot bowl of iceberg lettuce(!), couple of mini eggs, big piece cold chicken
large helping of pasta pesto, cheddar, broccoli, packet of peanuts
bowl of oats, yoghurt, honey and chia seeds

I suspect there were a few more mini eggs in there too. He is mid-growth-spurt, plays loads of sport, loves cooking.

maudmadrigal · 21/03/2024 13:22

Also, he really loves fruit and veg. If I posted my teen daughter's menu from yesterday there would be a lot less fruit and veg and a lot more chocolate/baked goods!

HotChocWine · 21/03/2024 13:33

I don't actually know 100%... But along the lines of

2 bagels and OJ
An apple and yoghurt

Wrap at lunch, crisps another apple

(Free) Big Mac
Isotonic drink (after the gym)

Huge jacket with chicken and bacon in white wine and cream sauce topped with cheese

A chocolate eclair

Another apple

A bag of monstor munch

A huge bowl of cereal and milk

BlowDryRat · 21/03/2024 13:58

Oh my, the orange juice! He'll happily drink a family-sized bottle a day.

DS' eatathon looks quite normal. Phew! He's growing at a rate of knots.

OP posts:
BlowDryRat · 21/03/2024 16:33

So far today:

1 waffle
1 croissant
1 jacket potato with beans
1 giant cookie
1 punnet of grapes

Let the after-school snackathon commence!

Bloody hell, mine won't touch fruit!
Almost 14:
Two slices toast with Nutella
Chicken and cucumber bagel
Crisps
Small bag fridge raiders
Pepper and cucumber slices
Orange club
£3 worth of "protein bars" from the local shop (this is starting to puss me off tbh)
Chilli con carne and brown rice with sweetcorn
Choc ice
Bowl of coco pops
A mini wrap (no filling because he's lazy. Literally just a wrap)
I suspect also a lot least one other groovy bar/wagon wheel type thing but I can't be sure

LyricalGangsta · 21/03/2024 16:55

DS3 (15) is now going through the constantly hungry phase that the previous 2 went through.
I recall when DS2 (now 17) went through this phase at 14/15 he actually complained he was sick and tired of being constantly hungry and eating!

DS(15) currently eats :

2 bowl of cereal in morning or uses a medium Pyrex mixing bowl to save time and effort of double pour

Packed lunch - sandwiches with cheese and ham
Pasty
Babybel
Fruit pot
Banana
Nutri grain or similar
Scone or pain au chocolat
Mini cheddars
Fridge raiders/peperami

After school - cereal again or filled baguette

Evening meal - curry, rice/ toad in the hole, veg / cottage pie, veg. Whatever I'm cooking

Evening - cereal again or toast marmite/crumpets

Oldest is 19 and eating has reduced somewhat and DS who is 17 has reduced somewhat
The older two tend to snack more on hard boiled eggs or cans of tuna / cans of peaches in juice

DD13 eats a good plateful at mealtimes also but is more picky and particular

All kids are slim and well within healthy range according to height weight ratio so I allow them to eat what they feel they need and just try to keep up

DS15 averages about 3 boxes of cereal and 6 pints of milk on his own

LyricalGangsta · 21/03/2024 16:57

Per week

Ds is 15 if he’s not doing sport he’s eating! In fact maybe eating is his new sport 🤔
Today:
Breakfast- Bowl of porridge
yogurt, bowl of berries, orange juice

school snack - mars bar

Lunch - pesto pasta, chocolate brownie.

after school snack - two pancakes with Nutella. A banana and an apple.

Dinner will be - prawn spaghetti, apple crumble and ice cream.

Supper - probably toast and jam.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 21/03/2024 18:08

I am a bit ashamed about my Ds 14 looking at all the fruit, here goes,

2 crumpets with Nutella
1 pain au Chocolat
1 actimel
Glass of milk

Piece of banana bread
1 doughnut

Chicken breast, roast pots and veg

My ds doesn't eat lunch as he has bands on his braces which, he refuses to take out at school 🤷.

BlowDryRat · 21/03/2024 18:45

I reckon banana bread counts as fruit 😉

OP posts:
Minikievs · 21/03/2024 20:06

I also feel guilty about all the fruit on everyone else's list! Mine declares he's STARVING, then when I offer an apple, suddenly he's not as hungry. If I cut it up into slices and delivered it on a plate to his bedroom though, I think he'd eat it.
That's why he eats so much cucumber, it's the only healthy thing he'll happily munch on. We go through a whole one a day between the two DC. And they're 89p each now 😱
I would also class banana bread as fruit 😂
And I'm glad he's not the only plain wrap eater! I think it's weird! I suggest a piece of toast, but nope. Plain wrap it is!

maudmadrigal · 22/03/2024 07:24

In my experience, DS is really quite unusual in how much he enjoys fruit and veg - he'd genuinely rather snack on a pepper than a chocolate bar. His sister's daily intake would be a different story - she'll reach her five a day if I buy in raspberries, cherries, blackcurrants etc, but not otherwise!

Kalevala · 22/03/2024 07:30

Coffee
Eggs in a brioche bun
Falafel and cheese in a tortilla wrap
Tin of pineapple
Beef rendang with brown rice
Mint icecream
Banana and kefir smoothie

ShinyBandana · 22/03/2024 07:31

15 year old:

Bagel and juice for breakfast
I’ve heard he sometimes gets a Bakewell tart on the way to school

Packed lunch was chicken salad wrap, brunch bar, cookie, crisps, apple and grapes

He did his own meal last night as we were out - Hawaiian Pizza out of the freezer and I see he finished the grapes and had another brunch bar.

sunnylanding · 22/03/2024 07:38

Mine is no longer a teenager but one of my posts came up on Facebook Memories the other day - he had a midday football match and during the morning he'd had three weetabix, two bananas, a cheese toastie, packet of monster munch, a pork pie, and a pint of milk.

This was standard - he would go to the fridge and come back with a plate of really random stuff like cheese, ham and strawberries piled up for a snack.

HelenHywater · 22/03/2024 07:40

I don't monitor my 15yo ds's eating much, but I think he supplemented his normal meals yesterday with about 15 weetabix (with milk).

Monkeybusiness09 · 22/03/2024 08:06

Chocolate Croissant
Jam Donut
Roast dinner/ turkey&ham in school
Small smarties Easter egg
Banana
Spaghetti bolognese
Pot noodles
2 slices of white bread with Nutella

I'm sure he ate more when I went to bed.

daffodilandtulip · 22/03/2024 08:37

I have got two polar opposites.

DD eats like a bird, and would quite happily survive on toast. (Healthy and no ED, just not a thing for her.)

DS would bankrupt me if I let him eat what he wants. He has ended up with a list of acceptable after school snacks and a list of items that he can choose one of for supper. He has breakfast at home, breakfast at school, snack and pack lunch at school, his allowed after school list 😂 is a fruit, a biscuit, crisps, a bready thing (brioche, crumpet etc), glass of milk and a yogurt. We eat tea an hour later and he'll always want a pudding that no one else does. And I'll still get "I'm hungry" between that and supper.

Glad my child isn't the only one who thinks you eat cucumber like a banana!
