Is my teenager taking drugs?

My teen used to go into his bedroom after school and play Roblox for hours (and to use every week's allowance on Roblox). Since the beginning of this term he comes home and gets into bed. The lights are kept off even though it gets completely dark after 5. He says he is tired and wants to rest. Homework hasn't increased, no peer problems that I know off. No health issues. He looks and sounds normal when he gets home after school and if I venture into the bedroom. Asks to keep the light off as it's hurting his eyes. Back to normal around 7. It's been going on and off for over a week now. I heard this kind of behaviour could indicate a child is taking drugs. I spoke about drugs, he laughed it of. Am I being paranoid or do I have a reason to worry?

My first thought would have been to take him to the GP!
Also, you shouldn't need to be sneaking his password. My children knew I could check their phones at any point up until they were about 15. Probably not a popular opinion but it's my job to keep them as safe as I can.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed. I will keep an eye. It might be porn (which is also damaging). It might be a love interest. I am fairly convinced at this point it's not drugs. However I just remembered that my eldest son greatly embarrassed me at the dinner party a few years ago by reciting the name of all the drugs he knew and it was a long list! We live in a very middle class borough and he was in Year 5! I was told he learnt it from his primary school friends with siblings in secondary. I don't think the drug situation has got any better since then

You were embarrassed by your child reciting the names of various drugs? Why? Having an awareness and understanding of drugs is better than being clueless, especially for teenagers.

My teen does exactly the same, comes in lies on his bed and falls asleep. I try and wake him to eat tea but often he'll sleep a good few hours, but then it's a vicious cycle as then he's up til the early hours as he's had that Power Nap, so then is tired the next day and goes to sleep again.

Sometimes his friends message me or his sister as they want to go out and he's fallen asleep and can't be woken 🤣

I've never worried about it as I remember doing the same and I'd prob do same now if I could, always loved a good nap. My dad also always went to bed for an hour when he got it from work.

My daughter read very similar around 13/14, she would come home from school and fall asleep and I would have to wake her for dinner. Nothing sinister was going on she was just growing and tired! She's now nearly 21, at Uni, working part time and thriving! It's probably a phase, don't panic.

A Year 5 child is 9 to 10 year old child - not a teenager at all. Reeling off a list of drugs doesn’t imply awareness.
