Bail

16 year old on bail. Played knock a door run and there was a massive over reaction by police.
What is likely to happen when we check back in at the police station ?

There we are. It's because the man said he'd been burgled. But no, if he didn't actually get Burgled you have nothing to worry about.

Most people wouldn't get arrested for a burglary that didn't happen though.

coffeeandpeace · 15/02/2023 19:36

Some kids aren't at the level of their age due to special needs. He was joining in with the younger kids but has been treated this way as he is older

murasaki · 15/02/2023 19:36

Why did he go anywhere near this man's house? He needs to change his behaviour quick smart.

Hellocatshome · 15/02/2023 19:36

16 and 14 year olds dont play knock a door run. If they did knock on his door and run away it was in order to cause him distress. I think rather than defending him and pretending the police have over reacted to a game you should tell him to grow up and wind his neck in.

Undermyumberellaellaella · 15/02/2023 19:36

And people who have left school shouldn't be playing knock and run. Even if the younger kids are.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/02/2023 19:37

You don’t get arrested for playing “knock a door run”. He’s not telling you the truth. More to the point, he’s 16 and has left school. Why is he acting like a 10yo? Instead of moaning about a “bloke who is always complaining about kids” tell your son to grow up and sort his life out. It’s bloody intimidating to have teenagers banging on your door.

murasaki · 15/02/2023 19:37

Is he not supposed to be in some form of education, employment or training at 16?

Hellocatshome · 15/02/2023 19:38

Even the younger kids are too old for this shit and sounds like leading your DS into trouble

Wolfiefan · 15/02/2023 19:38

What special needs? Does he work or go to college? It sounds like this man finds the behaviour of these kids intimidating. If it was reported as a suspected attempted break in then it wasn’t a game he was arrested for.

Nimbostratus100 · 15/02/2023 19:38

OP, he was harassing a man known to be vulnerable, by the sound of it,

my best advice is he should not accept a caution

A caution for this sort of behaviour is going to mess up his prospects for years

He should ask to be formally charged and taken to court - there is at least a chance that they wont bother, and he ends up with no record, best case scenario

But I have to say, that advice is my personal experience as a teacher of teens who get themselves into trouble for this sort of thing

Best thing he can do is get proper legal advice, not internet advice and my old anecdotes, and other people who may be out of date, or misinformed, as I may

limoncelloo · 15/02/2023 19:39

Police bail isn't given out willy nilly either. If there was no evidence or lines of enquiry and it was just some kids knocking on the door I'm sure he would have been released NFA.

NancyVicious · 15/02/2023 19:39

If he hasn't committed a burglary and there is no evidence of a crime, he will be given a warned and that's that. If they feel a crime has been committed or are still investigating he will could be rebailed

titchy · 15/02/2023 19:39

So, again, what was he arrested for? The actual suspected charge? Which wasn't 'knock and run'.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 15/02/2023 19:39

Some kids aren't at the level of their age due to special needs.

Then they need adequate supervision. If the story is as you've said then I expect it'll be NFA by the police when you go tomorrow. Though I'm surprised they arrested and released a 16yo with significant special needs without direct contact with a parent / guardian.

yes, OP, I suggest you open your mind to the possibility that something was stolen or damaged,

UserNameSameGame · 15/02/2023 19:41

As others have said, you need to know what he was actually arrested for. Was it burglary? Something else?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 15/02/2023 19:45

14 and 16 year olds are too old to play knock and run. You need to see what his arrest actually was for.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 15/02/2023 19:50

On bail for knock and run?

Nah.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/02/2023 19:52

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 15/02/2023 18:03

If it's knock down ginger only, he will be at most given a caution.

I think this is what Sasha Walpole was playing in that field, and she just had to give a slap on the bum. No bail and caution's been thrown to the wind now.

SirGawain · 15/02/2023 19:57

He was playing knock down ginger at the age of 16?!!!!! Sounds more like an immature 10 year olds behavior.

The op says (implies) he has special needs

milkysmum · 15/02/2023 20:00

He was not charged and bailed with knock a door run. What was the charge?
I have kids age 11 and 14 and they are too old to play this, maybe 8/9 year olds would.

coffeeandpeace · 15/02/2023 19:26

There is no school. He left last June after GCSE

well, he is legally required to be in education, employment or training, so what is happening here?

OP, it sounds like things are going wrong very seriously for your son right now. He shouldnt be not doing anything - you say he has SEN? And now he has done something serious enough to be arrested and bailed.

It sounds like this could be an opportunity to get help, if there is a youth offending team or similar, who might take him on.

GoodChat · 15/02/2023 20:02

OP if he's 16 and has left school what's he doing with his time now? Other than harassing or potentially burglarising old men?

Liorae · 15/02/2023 20:03

coffeeandpeace · 15/02/2023 19:33

No ! Why are people accusing him of this sort of thing. He doesn't drink/ swear .
This is a well known local man who is constantly complaining about kids

If 16 year old "kids" are constantly knocking on his door I am not surprised he is complaining.
