What style winter jackets/coats are your boys wearing?

Went looking today and I have no idea. My 15yo DS is so insecure (bullied) about what style he should get. So I thought I would ask here. He needs something to get him through a cold winter (not a ski jacket).

DS's is similar to this, except I paid £15 for it on eBay. Onto it's second winter and he still says how much he loves it.

Nike/North face etc Black puffer seems to be the uniform among ds and the entire secondary school

RainBow725 · 11/11/2022 17:32

Yes to black puffer but make sure you don't get a down one. They smell like wet dog when rained on and are a bugger to get dry - ages in the tumble drier. I speak from experience of an expensive Superdry coat which we're stuck with for the duration... (not my purchase!)

My ds had a zvetti canada but think jacket...puffer coats make him look fat apparently.. he is not anywhere near overweight so it doesn't but won't wear it

DelilahBucket · 04/12/2022 08:35

Navy 3 in 1 fleece/waterproof from Mountain Warehouse. Plain and understated. Most of the time I can't get him to wear a coat full stop but I insist he takes the waterproof in his bag and wear it if it's raining.
We went through the whole "what coat do you want" in October. He was adamant no puffa, no parka and no smart wool. All of these things he said would either have associated him with the wrong crowd or made him the victim of bullying.

black under armour puffer. Last year he had a Nike puffer bought second off a selling site. Although he has asked for a black dress coat for xmas - not quite sure why as he only wears sports joggers and joggers and a dress coat will look ridiculous!!!!!

sorry but isn't 'teenager' and 'coat' in the same sentence and oxymoron?

None of them seem to wear anything! despite freezing to death

Indeed.
I think OP needs to observe what boys wear in her local area.
Any sort of coat round here (yes, even in freezing temperatures, snow etc) would make you stand out.

RewildingAmbridge · 05/12/2022 09:05

Around here certain coats are associated with certain groups, and I'd be wary of a puffer. However this could be my knowledge of youth offending locally to me. If you live in a leafy suburb I'm sure it's not the same

My 14 year old DS wears a Nike puffer, 19 year old DS wears a palace (skateboarding brand - not that he has a board Grin) puffer

I'd be really interested to know what sort of puffers/coats to avoid and what they are associated with or PM me pls. I'm about to buy to buy coats myself and looking at the puffers.

My 14yo DS wears a Samurai navigator jacket & I've seen some of his friends in the same at sports matches. Its a quality teamwear brand so proper kit but not obvious or a coveted high street brand so less likely to be nicked. Well priced, good quality, hard wearing, washes well, dries fast. Its like a duvet & he wears it everywhere. He refuses to wear a puffer.
