Any idea what this is?

For context- Dd 15
Has been in with the ‘wrong crowd’ for the last year. At least one of them has been dabbling I’m drugs. I’ve found this small white pill, which fell out of her dressing gown when I was putting it in the wash. Definitely not anything recognisable like paracetamol
Any ideas?

Also forgot to add…
would appreciate any advice about whether and how to broach this with her
Its a tricky situation and she becomes extremely argumentative and defensive at the slightest thing these days. But she hasn’t shown herself to be behaving very sensibly recently so my trust in her to keep away from risky behaviour at the moment is admittedly quite low

I am totally clueless on drugs, but my instant thought was I wondered if it was a tic-tac?
Does it have an odour at all? I think any over-the-counter meds would have an imprint code and/or score. It's hard to say as it could be vitamin, herbal, energy, diet or illicit.

How far do you want to go to find out what it is? (Before speaking to your DD) You could buy an OTC multi drug test (here's one I've seen online)

lloydspharmacy.com/products/selfcheck-multi-drug-test?istCompanyId=203d462d-a278-42b2-b470-f22765919080&istFeedId=6087f665-3748-4780-a8df-71af7e6bf4df&istItemId=prxrixmlp&istBid=t&gclid=CjwKCAjwkYGVBhArEiwA4sZLuAoJLIalOmT2R3D1EpZfH1LqRSAtLFH6g7r59a2K1pbVH-awefVPxoCm6cQAvDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

You could put half of the pill in water or urine and then use on the home test kit? This will rule out the most commonly used drugs. I wouldn't let your DD know if you do choose to do this, but it may just help forearm you with some more conclusive information before you decide how to approach this with you DD.

It's such a worry, I have some limited experience of a relative taking M-Cat at a young age, as well as dabbling in other drugs and being in with the wrong crowd etc. Thankfully they're on a much happier path now but it was certainly a very upsetting and worrisome time for the whole family.

Sending you hugs @Maccydies.

Looks like a tic tac.

What size is it?
Is it coated or powdery?

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 08/06/2022 12:40

Doubt that's an e, they're normally bright colours/patterned etc. And normally as PP have said prescription drugs have writing/imprints on.

Is it shiny or powdery?

Have a look at the Dan Spargo-Mabbs Foundation pages for info on drugs and taking to your kids about them

Looks like an ibuprofen to me..

If she's dabbling in pills I doubt they'd fall out of a dressing gown pocket.

You'll soon know if it's harmful when you confront her and ask her to swallow it in front of you. Or that you'll swallow or in front of her.

ofwarren · 08/06/2022 12:51

Looks like ibuprofen

ODFOx · 08/06/2022 12:55

It appears to have an imprint on, which means that it's a prescribed or OTC drug.

If you can make out the imprint code look it up on Drugs.com. They have a good list by colour, shape and code on there.

Hollyhocks7 · 08/06/2022 14:13

ibuprofen

Maccydies · 08/06/2022 16:03

thanks to all responding
There is a background of some changing and risky behaviour in DD, hence I’m a bit suspicious. I have another teenage Dd with no problems and and I wouldn’t have batted an eye if this had been found on her
its definitely not Ibuprofen, as we have those at home
also- no imprint on it so I don’t think it’s a prescription drug, but I could be wrong
I can see why people think it could be a tic tac, but the surface is ‘chalky’, not smooth so I don’t think it’s that
I wondered about Xanax or something. Does anyone know what those look like?

They would have something on if they were though, unless black market.

Have you licked it?

Circleblue · 08/06/2022 16:18

It’s not an ibuprofen?

how do you know? Looks exactly like the ones I take. They don’t all look the same

Poster123 · 08/06/2022 16:23

The only way to know would be to send to Wedinos - Google they are a drug checking service.
speak to her. Have an open conversation about the harms of drug use but educate your self first and don’t take a just say no approach- take a just say know approach.
If you talk through the risks and open conversation it’s likely she will understand the risks and not take them.

Justlovedogs · 08/06/2022 16:26

Looks exactly like the two generic ibuprofen I took an hour ago? Not sure I'd want to jump to conclusions, although I get your concern.

milkmaiden · 08/06/2022 19:44

Does it have any markings on at all? A clear picture would help. It isn't ecstasy, ecstasy are very small and circular, not oval. Is there a line down the middle? It is likely a pharmaceutical drug that someone's parent or nan uses and some can get you high, but only a little.

Look here, if it has markings you may be able to identify it. It looks like a paracetamol (acetaminophen) to me. www.drugs.com/imprints.php?color=12&shape=11

Balanced12 · 08/06/2022 19:49

Looks like an antihistamine to me. Do be very careful, i remember my mum going batshit over a chewing gum foil wrapper as it must be drugs when I was 16, 20+ years ago, I moved out after, was a key moment in destroying our relationship. (She went bonkers though)

SAB10 · 08/06/2022 22:01

It's not ecstasy, or xanax/valium/zopiclone/temazepam - they all look different. To me it looks like a cheap own brand ibuprofen or paracetamol tbh.

SAB10 · 08/06/2022 22:04

Oh, not subutex either (just trying to think of prescription drugs that people use recreationally!)

Fuuuuuckit · 08/06/2022 22:17

What size is it? Does she have hay-fever? Generic antihistamines are that shape.

FindingMeno · 08/06/2022 22:19

Looks like the ibuprofen I take.
Have you asked her,?

Minimalme · 08/06/2022 22:35

Is she on the pill op? Because it is in her dressing gown pockets it is much more likely to be an OTC pill. Probably popped it in her pocket when she went to the bathroom to take it with some tap water, but forgot.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 08/06/2022 22:41

Looks like a tic tac/ibuprofen/paracetamol to me.
Trying to remember what my sons sumatripan look like, i think they have markings of some sort.

LoudingVoice · 08/06/2022 22:44

That doesn’t look like any kind of illegal drug to me, it looks like an ibuprofen or an antihistamine.

Upsidedownagain · 08/06/2022 22:45

Looks like the antihistamine I just took. But the size is hard to glean.

Ihatethenewlook · 08/06/2022 22:48

Doesn’t look like any illegal drug, or any of the naughty prescription ones. I’d be careful how you broach this because it seems like you’re about to destroy her trust for nothing

quietnightmare · 08/06/2022 22:54

Just say to your DD 'what's this?' In a curious tone. Her look on her face will tell you if it's drugs or a Panadol
