What gets your teens in the garden?

We are very fortunate that we have a big garden. We've made a lot of changes to it and have kind of made it into three sections, one of which is aimed at getting the kids outside. In this section we have a raised seating area and getting a new fire pit for roasting marshmallows etc and we have a full size table tennis table.....but it's still looking a bit bare. So what gets your teens outside? Or anything I should avoid buying? It is quite shaded during the day and gets the sun in the evening.

That sounds fab but they still won’t come if they don’t want to. I have two girls(21 and 18, first at uni) and they’ll sunbathe in the summer and sit put in a swing chair ( with phone and AirPods obvs) and they’ll eat outside with us. Stop trying so hard and enjoy it yourselves and hopefully they will follow.

My generation I'd have said beer cooler but today's youth seem less alcohol motivated.

Archery set?

My DS is younger - 9 - but he and a friend had a whale of a time playing with one last week - and now he wants one.

This one was a Decathlon Soft Archery set

Only you can decide whether to do that or go the full monty (and A&E potential) of proper archery... but it is great fun for all ages

Lighting, Make it look like a holiday resort.
Awesome seating, like outdoor beanbags, hammocks etc..
Oh… and no parents !

Dart board ? Bit old fashioned but still fun

SkirridHill · 15/04/2022 17:45

Wave a £50 note on a stick at them? In fairness that would shift me!

BarryKentPoet · 15/04/2022 17:45

Mine love our hammock and fire pit

DoggoInMyTesla · 15/04/2022 17:46

Alcohol and food. The garden could be a shit heap and they’d still be there.

caulkheaded · 15/04/2022 17:46

Pets. Guinea pigs, chickens, training the dog usually works.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/04/2022 17:47

Tell them there's a naggin of vodka hidden in the hedge.

partystress · 15/04/2022 17:48

Slide, plastic sheeting, fairy liquid and hose. Hours of slip and slide fun.

Moonface123 · 15/04/2022 17:53

Yes, pets, we have a Bearded Dragon basking and roaming around when its warm enough, one of us has to keep an eye on him.

watcherintherye · 15/04/2022 17:56

BBQs are the only thing guaranteed to get them outside! Anything else like table tennis etc. had novelty value, and got used a lot, at first, but only gets used now if friends for whom it’s still a novelty, come round.

We have a pizza oven and a dog, both of which encourage DS and mates outside. The pizza oven is up high, away from the dog, obviously.

mizzo · 15/04/2022 18:04

The hot tub, hammock and family barbecues.

RoyKentsChestHair · 15/04/2022 18:06

Hammock and hot tub for mine. More the hammock than the hot tub tbh,

snowmanshoes · 16/04/2022 15:36

A swing chair hanging from a tree right at the bottom of the garden she can sit on and send voice messages that no one can hear Easter Grin

MarriedThreeChildren · 16/04/2022 15:40

Food…

Otherwise, the comment is that it’s either too cold (in the shade) or too hot (in the sun).
