I haven't been out for years so I don't know but are pubs even allowed to stay open until 1:30-2pm during a weekday? It's in a small market town not a major city. Dd claiming she was there all night until that time

Pretty common to have a lock in, especially smaller places or if she had a mate on the bar

CripinIsCommonAsMuck · 18/02/2022 09:54

Why’d you think she’s not telling the truth? Would it matter if she were somewhere else?

Nailsbythesea · 18/02/2022 09:56

Ask the pub

titchy · 18/02/2022 10:00

Our local Spoons has a late licence and often open till 1am

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/02/2022 10:01

Depends on the licence for that particular pub. Otherwise it's a lock in.

HermioneGrangersHair · 18/02/2022 10:03

Yes it is. I live in a small market town we have a Wetherspoons that stays open until then plus another pub. And as others say some pubs will have a lock in after ( my son works in a pub and stays behind after finishing ) . I think she is telling the truth but why don’t you think she is?

PotatoGoblins · 18/02/2022 10:09

Yeah, I work in a small freehouse. It’s not uncommon for us to still be open (but no longer serving) until 1:30/2am with a handful of stragglers propping up the bar from Thursday-Saturday.
I often find myself turning lights of and tapping keys on the bar to encourage them to leave.

Susu49 · 18/02/2022 10:32

Absolutely likely. Many pubs are now licensed to remain open until that time.

Haffdonga · 18/02/2022 10:40

I was telling my young adult ds about how pubs used to all close at 11pm the other day. He couldn't get his head round it and kept asking But then where did you go next?

Susu49 · 18/02/2022 10:43

To which the answer is then we went to the club Grin

I miss nights like that: restaurant, pub, club

You forgot the obligatory post-club kebab!
Susu49 · 18/02/2022 14:01

Lol and the friend who'd invariably steal some humorous sign

BertieBotts · 18/02/2022 14:17

Yes this changed in about 2005 :o

OwlyOctober · 18/02/2022 17:21

Oh my, I am so far behind the times if it changed in 2005! And there's me still thinking they have last orders (and ring that bell).

She's only just turned 17 so yes, it would matter to me if she lied. There's no reason for her to lie especially I guess other than that older teens may well as a step towards perceived independence. She has been drunk before when she has attended friends' parties and we have had several chats about this. It still happened - not often and nothing compared to how I was at her age - but I know enough to realise sensible decision-making can be impaired and want her to be safe.

Lol it was more recent than 2005 but its been a few years now!

Without looking it up, I'd take a wild guess at around 2012...They still ring last orders, just a couple of hours later.

Oh, those were the days!

Just to reassure you though @OwlyOctober - they're much stricter on checking id these days. It's much harder than it used to be to get served alcohol under 18 unless you have a fake id which most 17 year olds seem to do

OutlookStalking · 18/02/2022 19:55

I still thought they closed at 11....

I never did clubbing so would come home and talk crap but never came in super late!

LittleBearPad · 18/02/2022 20:07

Never forget the first pub that kept serving. I’d been pacing myself for 11pm last orders. Last orders were 1am Blush

It was 2003 that the law came in, but came into force in 2005. That doesn’t mean that they all extended their hours then though.
Susu49 · 18/02/2022 20:25

Ohhh really? Well I live rurally, we're always behind the times!

BertieBotts · 18/02/2022 22:56

It was definitely before 2008 because I remember the change happening and it was before DS1 was born. I was probably a bit early with 2005 though. 07?

BertieBotts · 18/02/2022 22:58

Oh no apparently I was right with my first guess! I forgot they called it 24 hour drinking as though it was just a kind of Tesco of booze :o

maddy68 · 18/02/2022 22:59

Yes. Pubs usually close around 1;30-2 depending on the licence some.earlier some later

BertieBotts · 18/02/2022 23:02

It was easy to get served without an ID until about 2004... Then they started cracking down but we used to get around it by going in a mixed group and sending the over 18s to the bar. We'd rarely get kicked out. After that if I needed ID and didn't have mine there would generally be spares in a group of friends so we'd share them out and enter in two groups so the bouncer didn't clock that two people had the same name. Nobody ever looked closely at the photos. You just had to memorise the date of birth as they knew people shared ID and would quiz you on it.

Susu49 · 19/02/2022 01:26

They've ruined nights out 😔
