I’ve just found indecent images of a 16 year old on my 13 year olds phone. These were sent in several texts. The 16 year old is asking for pictures of 13 year old. I know who the 16 year old is. What do I do? I’ve spoken to my 13 year old about this subject many, many times.

Yeah that's child pornography if indecent photos of your 13-year-old end up on another kid's phone. Also, your 13-year-old is also committing an offence by sending those photos as this is classed as distribution of child pornography - a very serious offence indeed. You need to get Police and school safeguarding team involved unfortunately.

@Twillow Very, very helpful. Thank you.

@Harlequin1088 I’ve sent an email to the school will await their response! Thank you

Why have you emailed school? You need to go to the police, not the school. The 16yo is grooming the 13yo.

Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 18:44

@rrhuth To let them know what has happened and ask for advice on what to do.

Due to the nature of what has been disclosed in the e-mail, the school will likely have to trigger a certain response procedure and this will more than likely involve Police and social services who will all take a multi-agency approach to the matter.

Let us know how it goes. I'm sorry you and your family are having to go through this as it must be very worrying for you.

PotteringAlong · 29/11/2021 18:46

The school will call the police.

What you should do is report it to the Police. It is your child - you can't pass everything on to school to do it for you!

@Harlequin1088 yes school will presumably pass it on to the Police etc promptly. But IMO the OP is passing the buck.

KittenCatcher · 29/11/2021 18:50

Is the 16 yo a pupil at the school. I would contact the police, keep the images for proof.

AnyFucker · 29/11/2021 18:51

This seems a rather muted response, to put it mildly Hmm

Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 18:53

I am not passing the buck at all. I’ve spoken to victim support for advice, I’ve emailed the school asking for advice, I’ve posted on here asking for advice. My child, MY responsibility. I am absolutely NOT going in all guns blazing. I would like advice FIRST. Why does it matter if tomorrow, I call the Police, based on everyone’s advice?

OP posts:
Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 18:56

@KittenCatcher Yes at the same school which is why I emailed them to make them aware and to ask their advice.

I don't know, it's tricky, when I was 13 I was in a relationship with a 16 year old. He was a nice kid, today he would probably be jailed.

Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 18:58

@AnyFucker I’m sorry you feel I’m “muted” but I am actually very, very shocked that my 13 year old has been sent explicit images!

OP posts:
Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 18:59

@MiracleBaby2022 I understand this.

I’ve read lots of websites and the Police don’t tend too criminalise images sent between young people, but give guidance and advice as to why it’s not acceptable behaviour.

Today it would be viewed as inappropriate, due to the fact you were quite significantly underage. People used to get married at twelve, the fact it happened doesn't mean it was right.
ThisIsNotARealAvo · 29/11/2021 19:01

The police are unlikely ti do much. My DS is 14 and has nude pictures of his girlfriend, who is 13, on his phone. We have reported it and nothing has happened whatsoever. Her parents report it because DS had shared the pictures. Still nothing.

You are coming across strangely here.

These are not images sent between two fifteen year olds who are in a relationship.

This is a sixteen year old and a much younger child, and the sixteen year old is encouraging the child to send explicit images.

KittenCatcher · 29/11/2021 19:03

Have you confiscated the phone, what does your 13yo want you to do, are they upset and told you about the texts or did you find them by chance.

Christmaswindows · 29/11/2021 19:07

@KittenCatcher Not yet, we will talk about it when home later. I found them by chance.

16yo to a 13yo is very different to two 15yos. I'd call the police immediately.

nimbuscloud · 29/11/2021 19:10

So your many talks about online safety achieved nothing. It’s good that you check the phone.

AnyFucker · 29/11/2021 19:10

You need to report to CEOPS
