I had my son when I was 15, got all the stereotypical comments about how I've destroyed my life.

Fast forward a few years I've done well in a professional job and my son has just had his mock GCSE's returned. All grade 7s (old style A)

I always put myself down and made myself feel low thinking how could I have raised him better, when all along I've raised a clever little sod. I've done something right!

A message to all you mums who are hard on yourselves... carry on your doing great, their not as bad as we think 🙃

Well done you

Honestly women are too hard on themselves and the fact that we doubt our parenting decisions and abilities simply show what good parents we are for caring so much.

I know… On A levels results’ day, the penny finally dropped, he was leaving home and moving away.

I sat on his bed and told him how sorry I was for all those things I wanted to do with him and I couldn’t because I was working long hours ir very very tired.

I told him how much I wished we had had more time and money for extra curricular activities, sports, classes and holidays, things that would have allowed him to have a better foundation for his studies and life and…

He interrupted me and said:
Mum… stop it there please, I just got a place in Grin

Fabulous! Well done you!

Icanflyhigh · 27/11/2021 23:57

Absolutely brilliant, well done you - not just for raising your son as well as you have, but for continuing your studies and doing well for you too. I had my first baby at 26 and I struggled to find any kind of routine, I'm now almost 43 and not sure I've found one that works x

I had my daughter at 19, her dad is sadly not a constant presence in her life. She is in top sets for everything at school and recently told me how she stood up for a girl who was being bullied badly and took her to get help with the pastoral team. She’s so kind and becoming more and more polite as she gets older. I’m so proud of her and I’m proud of me for raising her without any help from her dad whatsoever 💪

Purple444 · 28/11/2021 00:22

Well done to both of you!

Honestly women are too hard on themselves and the fact that we doubt our parenting decisions and abilities simply show what good parents we are for caring so much.

I don’t think this the fault of women though. The actual problem is that society generally is hard on women, which leads to that doubt. And is particularly hard on teenage mums, branding them as failures and useless at raising children.

Well done OP!
