Which trainers should my 19 year old son buy for going to the clubs, he’s a student at Uni?

He’s wanting to buy a pair of on trend trainers but having not had the chance to go clubbing yet he’s not sure what the lads are wearing. Have Air For e had their day? He’s a smart/casual/street kind of lad. Every day Adidas trackies a d a T shirt, smarter when he goes out….any ideas welcome?

My DD turned 18 in lock down, she has a 21 year old brother. They both wear old converse, vans or Nike Airforce to go clubbing.

They get wrecked in the clubs, lots of jumping, spilt drinks etc. I don't think either of them would wear anything new for clubbing.

I suppose not everyone is into fashion at that age, but personally, I'd have rather poked myself in the eye at 19 than have my mum advise me what trainers were fashionable after asking round her mum mates first.

crumpet · 13/08/2021 04:47

Yes my dd has an old battered pair of Air Force kept specifically for festivals/gigs/anywhere where drink/mud might get spilled on them.

Yup

I'm getting my dd a new pair of Air Force ones to replace her current pair for university - apparently everyone wears them and flared jeans (I suspect she's talking about the girls only). But why don't you ask him?

She and all her friends, (and my 13 yo ds too for that matter) wear them all the time

PivotPivotPivottt · 13/08/2021 13:04

Air force are a safe bet for the first time then he can have a look about what everyone else is wearing if he's unsure.

Onesipmore · 13/08/2021 13:10

Alexander McQueens

Oh wow trainers are allowed in clubs. I remember you’d always get turned away by the grumpy bouncers for wearing trainers but luckily the local burger van had shoes you could rent for the night 😂

brittleheadgirl · 13/08/2021 13:14

I'm not sure this is a question for Mumsnet?
My ds wouldn't want advice on here, particularly anything related to fashion/style!!

Exactly!

"Son, Brenda recommended Air Jordans but Janice said she wouldn't be seen dead in those, and said to wear a nice pair of brogues." (Janice is a Northerner, obviously.)

Love the fact the burger van hired them out. Thinking about it, I'm not sure why there weren't more enterprising folk like that back in the day Grin
Travielkapelka · 13/08/2021 17:16

I think at 19 he should sort his own trainers out!

He’s 19, stop mollycoddling him!
stripedbananas · 13/08/2021 17:18

You can't go wrong with Nike Air Force one in black or white. They're a basic staple.

stripedbananas · 13/08/2021 17:19

OP my DS is awkward with clothes and shoes so I totally get why you're asking and choosing for him.

BadlydoneHelen · 13/08/2021 17:23

Many clubs say no trainers with air bubbles according to DD

gogohm · 13/08/2021 17:35

Whether you can wear trainers does vary, dd goes to a place that's no trainers, they are students but a taste for the high lifeGrin

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 13/08/2021 17:42

@episcomama

That made me proper lol 😆

BadlydoneHelen · 13/08/2021 17:45

One idea might be to look at the clubs he's interested in on Instagram or Facebook - either the clubs own page or tagged location in peoples pictures. It would give him a better idea of what people are wearing
