Which trainers should my 19 year old son buy for going to the clubs, he’s a student at Uni?

He’s wanting to buy a pair of on trend trainers but having not had the chance to go clubbing yet he’s not sure what the lads are wearing. Have Air For e had their day? He’s a smart/casual/street kind of lad. Every day Adidas trackies a d a T shirt, smarter when he goes out….any ideas welcome?

You weren't allowed trainers in clubs last time I was out 🙈😂

girlmom21 · 12/08/2021 21:59

Don't buy trainers for a club 🙈

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 12/08/2021 21:59

Air Force ones are still fine. Jordan's are big now too if that's his style.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 12/08/2021 22:00

Everyone wears trainers to go clubbing these days. It's nice to have a pair for everyday and then nicer ones for nights out.

MrsEricBana · 12/08/2021 22:00

I'd say Air Force. Also seen Reebooks on dd boyfriend.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/08/2021 22:02

They all wear trainers to clubs ,you're showing your ages Grin

What do his mates wear?

TuesdayRuby · 12/08/2021 22:02

I can tell some of the posters here haven’t been out in a while! What do they think guys wear in clubs? Black shiny loafers!

OP - if he’s going proper “clubbing” rather than to the local Oceana, then he should absolutely wear trainers. Nike air max are always a good shout!

MissCruellaDeVil · 12/08/2021 22:05

For clubbing, yes you can wear trainers, but keep them plain, think all black air forces etc. Some of you sound like you haven't been to a club in a while…

jenthehen · 12/08/2021 22:06

Thanks everyone. Not sure what his mates are wearing as they never had any chance to go clubbing during the first year due to Lockdown. We live very rurally so no clubs here for him to go to until he returns to Uni. He can’t wait!

Just wait until he gets there and then he can buy them himself? Would be a shame to get it wrong. He'll soon see what's deemed 'in.'

imamearcat · 12/08/2021 22:10

It's probably made less cool by the fact his mum is picking his trainers!

LarsErickssong · 12/08/2021 22:14

The best thing about clubbing these days (well before covid) is that you can wear trainers! Gone are the days of wearing agonising heels

Miracle29 · 12/08/2021 22:16

Nike air force ones are still very popular and are now used in quite a few schools/colleges where I live as they are a trainer/smart shoe.
Converse always seem a popular choice aswell

Bagelsandbrie · 12/08/2021 22:16

Hmmmm it does depend where he’s going clubbing! It’s still shoes as a rule for Norwich for example - my dd aged 18 is out clubbing in Norwich tomorrow and all of them (lads as well as girls) are wearing shoes as they know they’ll get turned away from some places otherwise.

GetTaeFuck · 12/08/2021 22:16

Not white ones Envy

I agree! Poor lad, I'd have been bloody mortified if my mum was researching what clothes were "in" when I was that age!!
Scbchl · 12/08/2021 22:18

Nike Air Jordans, airforce, anything really

GetTaeFuck · 12/08/2021 22:19

I can think of just one place in my city that wouldn’t allow trainers and even that is only on a Saturday and there would be very few students in there considering it’s around £15 a drink

jenthehen · 12/08/2021 22:33

Thanks for the insights. I’ll ignore the unpleasant comments.

One of my daughter kept some grubby scruffy trainers for going clubbing as they would get trashed. The rest of her looked very glamorous and put together but her shoes were a disgrace 😂😂

She went clubbing in a city with a lot of student clubs

jenthehen · 12/08/2021 22:58

@TootTootTootToot that probably makes a lot of sense!

I'd have thought a 19 year old could sort his own trainers. Let him go.

GreenTreess · 12/08/2021 23:10

Usually it's best to wear your old trainers at clubs rather than buy new ones for them - they always turn grotty quickly!

This ^

Plus what TootToot said.
My dd went to clubs in our big city both before COVID and since she's been home for the holidays, and has also been out a bit at University (smaller City in different part of the country) and she just wears scruffy old, 'non-brand' trainers. There really is no 'rule'. They can wear what they want to the clubs and all night pubs these days.

PatricksRum · 13/08/2021 03:12

I would encourage him to find his own style.

As pp said I wouldn't purchase trainers for a club.
