He’s just on his phone in his room, or on his computer. His mates sometimes call round but they don’t seem to know what to do either, they’ll trudge to the shop and be back in half an hour. No one seems to want to hang out. We live in an amazing place where people come for their holidays, but he just says there’s nothing to do. He said he’d do an activity if his mates did but Trying to arrange anything with the parents just seems so hard - they all seem to have zillions of grandparents cousins etc to stay with and it’s just us.
I just don’t know what to do with him. And feel so sad- and guilty. Why is it so hard to arrange stuff? What do other people do?

Also teens need sleep for growth.

I manage to get mine out, sometimes cheaply. It would be easier if we lived somewhere like OP describes. Does he refuse to come out for 2 hour+ walks even if you offer chips & ice cream, OP? We are all watching Olympics right now.

Do you belong to local Facebook groups? We found out about a local activity on a FB group. Ds is 14 and is now at a football activity from 10-2, four days a week, for weeks of the holidays. He’s loving it. If it wasn’t for that, he’d be sitting festering in his room on his own.

Yes, mine too. 11am was his average Smile

He's with his dad next week but I need to think of fun things for the two weeks after that. He doesn't like cinema. He has a weekly swim lesson and karate class and I've found some pedalos on a local lake so we'll try them one afternoon. Anyone got any other ideas? The local climbing centre is shut. Sad

Malificent 7 that’s made me laugh! We are boring tho, even I think I’m boring. Just seem to have lost my mojo for hanging out with mates atm. Nothing to say I think. Maybe you can think of activities for me!
Lijkk, it’s fairly rural where we are, which is lovely..but due to stuff, we have done a lot of traipsing round in the rain. I think we are running out of ideas tbh.
Will look on Facebook.
Mintjulia, pedal lost sound fun! Everything here is booked solid.
Wonder if he’d paint the fence?!😜

Quite right.

10.30-11am is early enough to get up when there is nowhere you have to be. It's bad enough getting up early on school days.

I'd have left home if I'd been forced out.

Passthecake30 · 05/08/2021 21:36

@Maggiesfarm he was up at 8am today! Tbf he hasn’t really hit puberty or started his growth spurt yet so the sleeping in stage will come. We do get both kids (11&13) to go to bed around 10ish on a weekday, so I guess he’s having plenty.
Today I took them to a pitch and putt during my lunch break. £5.50 each, some fresh air and running around for just over and hour, then back staring at screens for hours after.Hmm
Dp is insisting on training them to do additional chores. They are loving that!Grin

Maggiesfarm · 05/08/2021 23:52

Well done Passthecake.

Winenota · 12/08/2021 01:53

Pitch and putt sounds fun. Everyone round here paddle boarding but Dh sent mixed messages about us getting one. So I didn’t and now of course he meant that I should.not that ds would go anywhere near the beach. Or try surfing. But he was actually invited to a mates house today. He hasn’t wanted to arrange anything so that’s a break thru. Sorry, it’s a stupidly long holiday.

Went to chessington today, a whole day without screens! It can be done Grin

Tomorrow it’s a big inflatable assault course thing on a lake.
