What do you feed visiting teenagers?!?

I seem to have a steady steam of friends of the teenage dcs visiting on Fridays after school (and various times at weekends) which is great. But I am wondering what everyone feeds such visitors?! The dcs tell me that fishfingers and chips are a 'no no' , that frozen pizzas don't taste good, however it is getting too much to order Dominos pizzas in 2-3 times a week now. As a family we usually eat very late so it's not an option to have the usual family meal. Any ideas of simple stuff that I can have in the house for whenever it is needed?

Part baked baguettes for big sandwiches. Baked potatoes to stick in the microwave with tuna and cheese?

Nachos. I go for a massive bag of cheap tortilla chips, grated 4 cheese (from bag) and any of homemade chilli/sour cream/veggie bean mix/salsa/avo or guac - whatever I've got hanging about.

No wonder they all come round and congregate at yours if you're buying Domino's for them all several times a week. I bet their parents don't do the same.
Tell them that they get what they're given or they are welcome to use their own money to buy as many Domino's pizzas as they like.

^^This.

(Our teens are also quite keen on being given some basic burgers/sausages, buns and ketchup, and access to a BBQ with their mates)

kowari · 02/07/2021 16:55

If it's just after school food, not yet dinner time, can't they get their own? Make a wrap, cheese or beans on toast?

WhyMrsRobinson · 02/07/2021 16:55

Pasta and pesto! Spaghetti hoops, cheese on toast. Sausage sandwiches , wraps.and they make it themselves! And wash up 😂😂😂😂

Maggiesfarm · 02/07/2021 16:55

You can buy really good pizzas that are not frozen, from a supermarket. The Co-op does some beautiful ones.

Home made lasagne out of the freezer usually goes down well.

Serve with salad and garlic bread.

I used to feed a lot of teenagers and they generally ate what we ate. They obviously liked our cooking :).

Hax · 02/07/2021 16:55

If you are at home I'd eat earlier and do more of the same.
Or prepare it earlier and save some for you to eat later.
Or just make sure there is plenty of pasta in the cupboard and let themdo pasta and jars of sauce or cheese.

DonGray · 02/07/2021 16:57

Burgers is my preferred option or pasta and garlic bread

Frenchfancy · 02/07/2021 16:59

Takeaway pizzas are bought with their own money (ie never).

We always have chicken nuggets in the freezer, as well as a sandwich toaster at the ready.

DD3 loves pasta so generally makes that for her friends. I don't get involved.

CommanderBurnham · 02/07/2021 17:00

Hot dogs, sandwiches, pies, crisps, cheeseboard.

I've learnt not to accommodate friends too much. They'll get offered a drink and a snack and a plate at the table if it's our dinner time.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/07/2021 17:01

Supermarket pizza, and if that's not good enough then buy your own!

SecretWitch · 02/07/2021 17:05

When my children were at home I had sandwich things and fruit available. Popcorn and pretzels were always on offer. If they wanted take away they pooled their money and ordered it. How can one afford to buy Domino’s multiple times a week?

Chasingsquirrels · 02/07/2021 17:15

How old are said teens?

My 18yo's gf is here quite a lot, she either eats with us as a family or ds sorts meals for them - usually chicken noodle stir-fry or pasta & meatballs, for lunch they'll have sandwiches, toast, beans etc.

15yo cooks quite a bit, although doesn't have friends round much.

Snacks might be crisps, fruit, nachos with melted cheese.

If they want pizza we'd make our own, bread machine to do the dough. But needs putting on by midday.

We had the coop freezer deals last weekend - pizza, 12 chicken nuggets, 2 pack of garlic bread, spicy wedges & a 4 pack of magnums for £5.
2 lots between 5 of us went down well, with a 2 pack of garlic bread, bag of spicy wedges and box of magnums left over.
Something like that in the freezer for unplanned times might work.

SingingInTheShithouse · 02/07/2021 17:22

Bloody hell, you're a a bit of push over & DCs are trying it on but the sounds of itConfused

In normal times we also often have a houseful of teens, they'd absolutely love it if I ordered them dominos etc, but sod that for a lark other than for treat occasions

Mine might get...

Aldi's cheap pizza, which they are more than happy to eat
Baguettes with cheese & tomatoes
Noodles
Spaghetti & grated cheese
A big pile of home made pancakes
Aldi's or Morrison bags of pain aux chocolate or similar

& in general they don't actually expect to be fed

SingingInTheShithouse · 02/07/2021 17:23

Oh & nachos, crisps, fruit

FourTeaFallOut · 02/07/2021 17:25

I have a jar of those - last a gazillion years in a jar- hotdogs and buns for when ds piles in with his mates and a metric tonne of chips.

dancemom · 02/07/2021 17:45

Pizza, chicken nuggets and wedges in the freezer

Pasta and sauce, beans and bread for toast on the cupboard

EssentialHummus · 02/07/2021 17:50

I’m not at that stage yet but what came to mind was either pasta and sauce (jars) or bread and cheese to make toasties.

BertieBotts · 02/07/2021 17:51

Instant noodles, cheese on toast, pasta. Frozen pizza is fine!! Domino's is for parties, not everyday.

Chicken nuggets seem less "babyish" than fish fingers for some reason. We have an air fryer which is really quick to chuck in a batch.

massistar · 02/07/2021 17:54

Coop pizzas or pasta here. Usually pasta if I'm honest with a home made bolognese from the freezer or I'll do them a quick carbonara. DH is Italian though so pasta is expected!

BertieBotts · 02/07/2021 17:55

Oh and those kits to make your own pizza always go down well, or part baked baguettes to make baguette pizza.

Thinking about it the Mexican taco kits etc might be a good shout for older teens who can be trusted to clean up after themselves and handle raw meat.

ShinyGreenElephant · 02/07/2021 17:55

Piles of toasties, pot noodles, pain au chocolates, crisp butties are popular, oven pizzas. Very rare I'll order them a proper takeaway but I will give them a tenner to go to the chippy and get loads of chips if there's not much in that suits them.

IcedSpice · 02/07/2021 17:57

Sainsburys Pizza and doritos

If they don't like it they are fine not to eat ot
