just wondering because my mum isn't too bothered but does try to limit them whereas some of my friends parents try to ban them completely (not that it works)!

They are banned completely for my children.

They are really bad for you.

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:48

sorry to be nosy but how old are your children and do you think you'd allow them in the future? it's fine if u don't want to answer though

They don't sell them to under 16s in most places, so below that age I don't think kids should be drinking them. I used to as well, almost every day, but I quit when I was about 16 and now as a young adult I never drink them.

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:50

my friends and i buy them from the corner shop but yeah tesco and shops like that usually don't let us :/

if you don't mind me asking OP, how old are you?

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:51

15 almost 16

It was at your age I was drinking them every day. They really aren't good for you. I'm really not thaaaat much older than you and I'm glad I don't drink them anymore.

Mintjulia · 04/01/2021 16:53

Thankfully my DS only wants water, so that argument hasn't arisen. But I wouldn't buy them. Ever.

Diverseduvet · 04/01/2021 16:53

That stuffs poison to young people. Try one of the natural ones instead. I know you probably enjoy the high then the crash, but you can get a lovely lift from purdys, various Innocent juices etc, without the more extreme low.

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:54

i hate water D: i only drink it when i've eaten too much chocolate and feel sick lol

i don't drink them for the energy, i drink the sugar free ones anyway so no sugar high and for some reason caffeine doesn't effect me other than giving me the shakes if i drink too much, but it doesn't help me stay awake or anything sadly

FATEdestiny · 04/01/2021 16:56

My 16yo daughter has recently become a fan of Monster. My 15yo son isn't interested though.

I won't buy these energy drinks for general day to day diet. If they want to spend their own money on a can of this rather than sweets (or in my son's case a bacon cob from the butchers) that's their decision.

However I caveat this with the fact that both are very sporty and active and play multiple sports at high levels. I actively buy energy drinks for competitive sports events (when they were taking place). I would think differently if the teenagers were inactive and/or overweight.

ThePerfectPintOfIceColdBeer · 04/01/2021 16:56

If you don't drink them for energy, why do you drink them? I drink coffee now and it doesn't give me energy but I like the taste of it. Do you like how they taste, or do you do it to look cool with your friends?

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:57

i'm not very active at the moment lol but i understand your reasoning.
i don't drink them everyday, only about 3 times a week really but i do drink pepsi max everyday D:

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:58

i just really like how they taste and i usually use the cans as plant pots after i finish them so at least they're not going to waste.

OP posts:
ThePerfectPintOfIceColdBeer · 04/01/2021 16:58

there are much nicer tasting drinks out there.

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 16:59

idk i really like the taste of the white one and the red one. i don't like any of the ones with sugar in because they're too sweet.

Nope banned for all my children, 17, 13 & 8. They are so so bad for anybody. All mine know they're are not allowed them and why; so if they have them without my knowledge they know how I feel about it.

grey12 · 04/01/2021 17:00

What kind of energy drink are we talking about? The one that "makes you fly"?? That is full of caffeine and terrible for you whether you are young or a grownup. I remember having some while doing an all-nighter for university work and my hands started shaking Confused

The other isotonic drinks are alright ;) expensive things though. Still better to get a smoothie or juice

formerbabe · 04/01/2021 17:00

I don't allow my dc to drink them.

BrokenCircle · 04/01/2021 17:00

I don’t let my son have them.

I’m also not sure that metal cans make the best plant pots!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 04/01/2021 17:01

My husband was having them a couple of times a day and has serious stomach issues now. We don’t know definitively but they’ve likely contributed to it.
We only have younger children at the moment but they’ll be banned in our house.

zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 17:01

i promise i'm not asking in a nasty way but how do you actually stop the 17 year old from drinking them? just curious bc my parents used to be really against me drinking them when i was younger but eventually gave up because they knew i would drink them if i wanted them anyway

OP posts:
zeitgeista · 04/01/2021 17:02

monsters usually, i don't really like rockstar or relentless and definitely not redbull

OP to put then into some context, when my nephew had open heart surgery when he was 10, the surgeon told him no less than 4 times, that he was never to have an energy drink as his heart wouldn't take it.

Doesn't sound like they are particularly good for you really!
