Older Teenage boy fashion

Please could people tell me what clothing brands older Teenage boys are wearing. My boy is so self conscious but doesn't understand fashion. I want to buy him the 'right' clothes so he can feel more confident. Any help would be so appreciated.

adidas, nike, basically any clothes from sports direct (hoodies and joggers)

Beattee · 20/12/2020 17:56

Thanks for replying. I was wondering about some of the other brands really. Because apparently not all brands from Sports Direct or JD Sport are ok. Some are 'definite no no's'. It's a minefield 😳🙂

DS is almost 17 and wears The North Face and Berghaus as well as Nike.

Blendiful · 20/12/2020 18:00

Mostly sports wear. Nike, north face, Jordan are all popular, some boohoo man stuff also, and Gansta King in my experience with teenage boys JD sports is a place they often shop. If you want to get it right, I would stick with Nike. Jordan or north face.

SavoyCabbage · 20/12/2020 18:25

I think it's quite difficult as the fashions are quite regional and can even vary significantly between schools.

For fitting in purposes I'd get him to look at what the other boys his age are wearing but that's going to be difficult at the moment.

My nephew is similar. He's 17 and at sixth form now and couldn't are less what he wears but has to wear something. His 14 year old sister chose all of his clothes for college and he just wears them. She's particularly fashionable though.

Ducksurprise · 20/12/2020 18:28

Agree about being regional, it's even different depending on the school you go to where I live. North Face however does seem popular. There is a Nike addidas divide as in some only wear Nike and vice versa. Trainers are more important than clothing where I am, many are more than happy in Primark clothes but have £100+ trainers.

lljkk · 20/12/2020 18:35

Mine utterly abhors anything obviously branded. Navy or black, sometimes grey/royal blue are only colours he will wear. And absolutely plain items. Hoodies & casual trousers that are not trackies, plain t-shirts (preferably long sleeve). No patterns or words. The more boring his shoes the better. He frets if the soles seem too big. Converse style are just about allowed but only above colours, of course.

xmasfairybuns · 20/12/2020 18:37

Nike, North Face, Canterbury, Champion, Adidas, Ellesse according to my 17 year old.

NovemberR · 20/12/2020 18:43

16 year old wears Nike, 11 degrees, North Face and SikSilk.

I am appalled at the cost of these! He funds his ridiculous £30 T shirts out of his Saturday job (unless it's Christmas)

Beattee · 20/12/2020 19:06

This is all really helpful. I did think it might be regional and was going to add I'm in the South East but wondered if it sounded daft. I constantly tell him to look at what other teens wear but it stresses him out. But then stresses him out not knowing what to buy (He's had a fair bit of bullying). I'm always trying what other boys his age are wearing. And we tend to go for Nike trainers but I'm sure there must be the 'right ones and wrong' Nike trainers too. Thanks for all the advice.

DS wears Nike and Adidas but prefers the ones with less obvious logos. Eg black joggers with black Adidas stripes not white ones. Also Lyle and Scott . Outside school he lives in a Napapirij ( prob not spelt like that!) hoody.

Okbutnotgreat · 20/12/2020 19:44

My 17 yr old DS literally couldn’t care less about brands. He’s tall and sticky so as long is it actually fits and is comfortable he’s ok with it. Hoodies and trackers are his first choice every time and he has some from Primark and Sports Direct and one or two old ones from Hollister and Jack Wills. Some kids are into labels some aren’t, don’t worry about it.

shamus2020 · 20/12/2020 19:54

Ds has just turned 18. He wears Nike, Jordan dsquared, cp company, armani, stone island and north face. Some of these are really expensive so it depends on your budget. For trainers you can't go wrong with Adidas Air Force 1s and they aren't as expensive as some trainers in men's size. We are in the south east too.

bodgerboris · 20/12/2020 23:00

Definitely go for less obvious branding. Does he actually like sportswear? Personally I feel joggers are for young kids or sports. But what about black or charcoal jeans? Certainly hoodies here are black, dark grey, charcoal, mid grey but not the light marl grey. Seen lots in dark red colour, dark grey but very dark. Generally will be short sleeve T-shirt, quite thin not good quality, white often, not long sleeve. They wear layers, hoody, sleeveless hoody, but not padded Gillette unless the preppy look is fashionable in your area?

Coats wise padded hooded jacket .. nothing too long. I've attached a screenshot of type of jacket the boys wear around these parts SE but not London

I'm surprised when people say The north face for young men, as it's a pretty expensive brand and very middle age commuter Waterproof unless your are buying their technical stuff. And their cheaper T-shirt's are too in your face branded.

Anything with a small 'badge': tommy,, nike and northface

bodgerboris · 20/12/2020 23:04

Oh and just to add you can wear a hoody hood up when it's sunny, but not when it's raining. Same with coat hoods Hmm

snappyoldfart · 22/12/2020 22:36

South east here as well, ASOS is your friend here, my 16 year old is in oversized plain white t-shirts all ASOS oversized hoodies from urban outfitters.

As he says you can't see a t-shirt brand so no point paying out for it, but hoodies are where the money goes.

HUFF and cathart are popular with him and his friends and loose fitting pale jeans, black jeans along with chunky cords.

Nike blazers as a trainer to start with are simple and lots of variety in colours and converse low tops.

They also I think have a phase right now of wearing white socks.

JustDanceAddict · 25/12/2020 11:13

DS does not let me buy his clothes! We buy online together or reluctantly I take him shopping.
He’s into skateboarding so a lot of the t-shirts/trousers are skateboarding brands like Dickies (not Supreme although I know non-boarders wear that brand it’s too mainstream for him). He wears black joggers, has Adidas or Nike trainers/jackets/hoodies. Def safe w those brands and they’re not too pricey. He doesn’t wear jeans much.
North face is prob still ‘in’, but it’s v expensive.
Depop is a good selling/buying site for teen clothes. Both my kids buy & sell on there.

EwwSprouts · 26/12/2020 22:35

DS 16 is more sporty than fashion so plain stuff from
www.luke1977.com/outlet.htm (local outlet)
Has this in two colours www.kappastore.co.uk/camiseta-coen-authentic-103650.html
One North Face tshirt as concession to fashion (outlet again)
These are his choice & great for long length www.tksportsworld.com/global/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_77_79&product_id=257
Jeans generally whatever fits in TK Maxx (sportsman's thighs)
Adidas trainers the weird knitted look
Jacket is very similar to the one a PP has shown but without hood. (Doesn't do hats or hoods ever.)

wizzywig · 26/12/2020 22:37

H&m,Zara for us.

KittyMcKitty · 26/12/2020 22:40

I think it depends on what sort of thing your ds likes.

My ds is nearly 18 and wouldn’t wear any of the sports branded (eg Nike) clothes (trainers are obv different).

He buys a lot of vintage stuff from Depop. New is mainly skate brands Polar, FA, Hockey. Dickies and Cathart for trousers.

LobotheBotanist · 26/12/2020 22:41

Poor boy

It’s awful to be anxious about stuff like this

My teens wear stuff from ASOS or Sportsdirect, they look pretty scruffy. They say they are less likely to get mugged in old tracky bots and the “wrong” Nike’s (slightly rough area Shock)

Anyway, get him to wear the same brands as his friends?

nosswith · 28/12/2020 11:10

Going to Sports Direct is not OK, please give him something of a conscience. Read about how the warehouse at Shirebrook operates.

Sarawish · 28/12/2020 14:17

Stone Island, CPcompany, pretty green for tops.
Levi jeans Adidas trackies. The rules for when you wear jeans or trackers are very strict.
Sweatshirts are cp company, stone island and baslager.
It seems that I have been had going by what everyone else is posting.
Whether you wear wear Nike or Adidas trainers speaks volumes apparently.
Weary sigh....

Itsokthanks · 28/12/2020 14:19

My 15yr old wears North Face, Palace, Nike and Adidas.
