take my 7 year old down the road in her wheelchair to an hour's drama class and sit in the foyer in case she needs to go to the loo during it

take my 7 year old in her wheelchair to Brownies and help her with craft/ going to loo/ general support for an hour and a half

dd is bright and quite mobile in a walking frame, and there wouldn't be any lifting involved

Depends where you are?

I am in SW London and would probably offer to pay £10/12 an hour.

It's not sitting on your arse-eating biscuits-watching TV type of babysitting is it.

RubyShivers · 04/10/2007 10:48

i would have said the same as clarice

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 10:48

well the drama class is

and I am so so very not in London

I am in the North

so maybe a bag of chips and 10 Marlboro?

Charlee · 04/10/2007 10:53

Lol i would pay about £30 for the lot?

For the teen to then spend on 20 Fags and some cheap Cider!

Boycodd · 04/10/2007 10:54

fgs!!! a teenager! £10 and hour

what are oyu on!

erm 1. id pay a 10 alll in or maybe £8

Boycodd · 04/10/2007 10:55

for brownies a tenner

the other ask the helper

EricL · 04/10/2007 10:55

Just make sure you actually buy the fags and booze for them though - don't give them the money.

You don't want them spending it on drugs instead do you?

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 10:55

cod thank god you're here

they were all ready to bankrupt me

OP posts:
Boycodd · 04/10/2007 10:56

how old is kid?

claricebeansmum · 04/10/2007 10:57

Boycodd you can come and be my babysitter then. How much will you charge - £2 an hour?

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 10:57

I dunno

there is one next door who looks, oh christ I don't know, anywhere between 11 and 32

or ask my mate who works at girls grammar if she has any teacher's pets she can pimp out

EmsMum · 04/10/2007 11:00

Oh you cynics. Some teenage girls do this sort of thing because they actually like helping people and will spend the dosh on nothing worse than mobile topups.

£10 seems about right - though if its the same teenager twice a week every week maybe you can work out something a bit less but regular?

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:01

I can see £10 for Brownies

but the other should be less right?

I mean I'd do it - sitting on arse reading book - if I didn't have a 2 year old

I'd do it for tuppence if it gave me an hour to sit down

MarsLady · 04/10/2007 11:02

Agree that £10 is enough(total not p/hr). I'm in London and had a gorgeous teen clear my garden at £5 an hour. £15 later I was one happy Mars!

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:03

Mars I love you

OP posts:
MarsLady · 04/10/2007 11:05

Well it's not as if you're asking them to do any too hard. Blimey.... care assistants get paid less than that and do it professionally!

Love you too Capputeeno!

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:06

mars that is an awfully good point about the care assistants

sad but true

OP posts:
bozza · 04/10/2007 11:06

Capp what about £15 for both? Or do you think you could get away with £10 for both?

MarsLady · 04/10/2007 11:09

Now you're going to love Bozza more.... sob!!!!!!!!

And you didn't comment on my changing of your name Capputeeno sigh................

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:10

oh now I get it Mars sorry

no Bozza was proposing more money

so I don't love her more

if I said £5 an hour that would be £12.50, right?

OP posts:
pippo · 04/10/2007 11:12

the direct payment rate would be about £9.16 an hour I think (& poeple don't often pay the full amount to their employees)- are you sure that there are no voluntary services in your area that could support dd with these activities?

Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:14

no want teenager

someone dead cool

direct payments takes bleeding forever to set up my neighbour has just done it

I will start planning that for Girl Guides if I get started with it now

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 04/10/2007 11:14

oh and I have a HOmestart volunteer

but they are not allowed to look after the kids without me

OP posts:
bozza · 04/10/2007 11:15

It doesn't sound that taxing does it really? Your DD only needs help some of the time at brownies (eg she will be fine to sit in a circle and sing or whatever they do) and only to go to the loo at drama? Have I got that right?

Maybe go for £10/week and buy her a Christmas present/gift voucher? Cheaper but will show that you appreciate her?

MarsLady · 04/10/2007 11:16

the teen is the way to go. That leads to evening babysitting and they love you when you give them money.
