Give suggestion for what?

CherryPavlova · 14/07/2020 07:47

Do you really need to post about this on the Internet. Poor girl.

LynetteScavo · 14/07/2020 07:52

Next someone will come along saying it's no big deal why are you asking for advice?

Poor girl? We've no idea who she is.

OP jut get he t the little teens Lilly packs for now, then buy a vast amount of sanitary products for her to try. I always keep my DD very overstocked because my DM never bought me any supplies. She would also be horrified with someone asking for advice for their DD about periods on the internet.

Personally I didn't go in for any celebration, I went down there here are the facts and the products route.

mdh2020 · 14/07/2020 08:08

Make sure she has a good supply in her school locker or bag when she goes back. My GD uses Always pads but says she will use Tampax for swimming. If you have prepared her for starting her periods I don’t see what the problem is. It’s a normal part of growing up

bhk3 · 14/07/2020 08:11

I am looking for suggestion on any particular sanitary pad that I can give her to use. And also if I need to make any changes in her diet.

Isthisfinallyit · 14/07/2020 08:21

Why would you need to change her diet ??????

gettingusedtothelimelight · 14/07/2020 08:21

Bodyform are much cheaper and nicer than Always and don't have that hideous perfume smell.

Permanantlypuzzled · 14/07/2020 08:36

Be careful ladies.

WaltzingBetty · 14/07/2020 08:57

Assuming you're a woman and have periods then you probably know how to manage them.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2020 08:59

Why woukd you need to change diet?? Buy pads. Dd found teen pads too short and likes bodyform

Have you not provided anything?

Oxyiz · 14/07/2020 09:09

Indeed, no sharing stories please!

HansBanans · 14/07/2020 09:16

Not a mum but I started my period at 11. Have always used the Always pads and liners. I find the ones with wings better as it gives you a bit more confidence that it will stay in place. They have larger ones for at night as well for further peace of mind.

I don't think changes to diet are necessary but if she is having really bad cramps like I used to then I would suggest that she avoid coffee (if she drinks it). I found that it made the pain much worse.

Why? They're all much the same. You just buy some and if she doesn't like them you buy a different brand next time.
MichaelMumsnet · 14/07/2020 09:23

Hi all, and thanks for the reports - and for the careful replies - we hope they're helpful for the OP.
We've had a look behind the scenes and the OP has been on the site for years, so we'll let this one run for now.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2020 09:24

Always smell bad - I can smell them when you walk into the aisle - I don't want perfumed bits, thank you very much! I buy bodyform for dd

Regularsizedrudy · 14/07/2020 09:33

Grim.

CorianderLord · 14/07/2020 09:58

Cotton non scented pads. Think always do them. Ask her to let you know if they're not absorbent enough and get her the next absorbency up if not.

Diet should be fine unless she's vegan if she is get her some iron drops.

Are you a bloke? If not unsure why you're so worried when surely you've had periods yourself?

differentnameforthis · 14/07/2020 11:44

A quick search of the op and it reveals that she has been here for sometime and posts often.

Does it not occur to anyone that op doesn't know what is the best pad for a child these days? Or that she has been caught off-guard and wants reassurance and advice?

OP, there are some really good products out there for young girls, try to avoid scented towels and don't get caught up in the feminine soap/wipes stuff as it's unnecessary! Tampons are not recommended for young girls yet, so perhaps don't be in a rush to introduce those.

Some girls like to talk about their periods, some like to avoid it and deal with it, let her guide you. I hear chocolate helps too!

Lightofthephoenix · 14/07/2020 11:47

I bought a pack of every pad available, some pants from Modibodi, a pack of normal black knickers and dark coloured PJs.

differentnameforthis · 14/07/2020 11:47

Oh & diet shouldn't be a concern really, but keep an eye and see a dr if you so feel something isn't right.

Some supplements apparently help with symptoms, but I never noticed a difference.

pinkgin85 · 14/07/2020 11:51

What is wrong with some of you? I don't have a daughter but if I did I would probably be a bit confused about what products to use as I don't use pads. Goodness paranoid much?

espressoontap · 14/07/2020 11:54

Hi OP

I would just go with supermarket own brand, unscented pads with wings.

I'd also get her a hot water bottle and some chocolate.

For school get her a little zip-up make-up bag with some clean knickers, sanitary towels and wipes in case she comes on in school.

I think people have been a little unfair to you here.

Hope your daughter is OK - it's a big change for her but all you can do is just be there for her and re-iterate how normal it is. Thanks

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 14/07/2020 11:54

Are you a father posting? Surely you've dealt with periods if not?

Just buy her a selection of pads and a giant bar of chocolate. She'll be fine.

joyjester · 14/07/2020 11:56

Unless her period is heavy then there is no reason to change diet. IfThey are very heavy then iron deficiency may become an issue
