Leaving 17yo overnight

Am just interested in views on this - at what age did you start leaving your teens overnight? We might get a little weekend break sometime in the summer and we were thinking of leaving 17 year old daughter home alone. She is completely happy and comfortable to be left. Sensible. Can cook for herself etc. We would only be a couple of hours away at most and her grandma is only 20 mins away in case of emergency. Would you leave her? She will only just be 17.

I was left home alone for 3 nights at 17, looking after my 11 year old brother who I drove to school.

What? Of course. Why wouldn't you? This type of over anxious parenting really gets on my nerves.

Would leave dd but ds? No bloody way / he is a H&S disaster on legs!

Everything looks perfect after leaving dd16 home alone.

I was 14 (only child). Good neighbours though. At 17 I was left for 2 weeks and managed to get myself to school every day & feed myself successfully.

My 17 and 18 year old boys would 100% have a party so I wouldn't leave mine. Can't trust them, even though they are old enough. They need to grow up more first, responsibility wise. I'd deffo leave them if they were sensible though.

@BigusBumus my dd loves a party too but she was way too scared to have one.
She was really good to prove we could trust her.
She said she actually enjoyed the time just the 2 off them chilling watching Netflix listening to music

For those who were interested in how it went, we got back from our trip yesterday. House was a bit of a tip as she was out when we got back and we were home a bit earlier than expected. She was planning to clean up before we got back. But she was absolutely fine. Had a few friends round but not a party as such.

@chocolatesaltyballs22 that Is great it went ok for you.
Hope you got her to clean up.
I text my daughter when we where an hour away to tell her we where nearly home and she had everything clean and tidy but forgot to clean cooker DH made big deal about it but as long as house was tidy no dishes I was happy.

She’ll be fine by herself but my worry would be her having a party and wrecking the house, that’s not because she’s 17 though, could equally apply to a 22 year old.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/07/2020 13:22

@Andi2020 we did call when we were half an hour away but she was in the hairdresser's! So we went out for lunch to give her the chance to clean the place up and to be fair she did a good job.

@chocolatesaltyballs22 so we will both be able to leave them home more often.
