Inappropriate dress for 15 yr old?

My DD 15, yr 10, wants me to buy her this dress. She is going away to France with a friend and her family in the holidays which seems to be the reason for the purchase. Is this really the sort of thing girls her age wear? She is very well endowed but also has a bit of a tummy and despite my protestations that this both isn't suitable for a 15 year old and is unlikely to look good on her she does not seem to get it! ( I haven't said anything more on the figure front than I don't think it will look good on her, models Iike this make clothes look very different). Normally she wears very normal clothes btw. Jeans, t shirts etc. Does anyone have any ideas of something else that might be more appropriate that I could suggest for her please? (I did suggest she could buy it with her money and try it on and see but she didn't want to do that!).

Thank you!

I don't think there is an ideal age for a dress like this

twistyturnycurlywhirly · 10/07/2019 14:26

If she was in sixth form, I'd let her decide if it was something she'd be comfortable in. But at 15 she is still a child, so no.

delmartric8 · 10/07/2019 14:30

I think that dress would look awful on anyone whatever their shape.

I live in France and it's about 35c currently and she would boil in a dress like that!

She needs to wear something loose. A playsuit is a good idea: loose, short but without the v line neck plunging to the navel.

LoafofSellotape · 10/07/2019 14:30

It looks dated to me too, proper 80's!

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2019 14:34

That's really inappropriate for a fifteen year old to wear on holiday with a friends family. That would be a no from me and a talk about how to dress appropriately for the situation.

thenightsky · 10/07/2019 14:35

I can't decide which is worst - the front or the back! Its vile and completely inappropriate for a summer holiday in France as, apart from the tits and arse emphasis, it has long sleeves and she'll end up uncomfortable and sweaty.

Aquamarine1029 · 10/07/2019 14:37

That dress is inappropriate for anyone, never mind a 15 year old girl. There's no fucking way I would buy that for my daughter and I wouldn't care how much she whinged about it.

Bluntness100 · 10/07/2019 14:41

What about this from the same site?

Totally inappropriate for a 15 year old to wear and if a friend of my DD had brought something like that on our family holiday i'd be convincing her not to wear it.

I'd try and convince your DD to go down the playsuit route. There's plenty on Pretty Little Thing.

My DD is currently in 35C + Spain and opted for shorts, playsuits and loose dresses. Anything closely fitted would just be too hot.

Mumofone1858 · 10/07/2019 14:46

Could you suggest this -

www.prettylittlething.com/red-mesh-long-sleeved-ruched-midi-dress.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_shopping&utm_content=uk&utm_term=product_target&istCompanyId=3b233929-048d-4b79-a672-b37827e7282d&istFeedId=995a7449-4b91-4f81-8010-f9c5da786479&istItemId=wmiiqpwxl&istBid=tzxl&gclid=CjwKCAjwmZbpBRAGEiwADrmVXrX3vxCdYz6PkxJfJII4QK2H39B1kRPtRUPsrfO8bbuiM3OUfmcidxoCaycQAvD_BwE

I honestly think the ruched look is flattering on more curvy girls but the length is a bit short! This has the ruched bit but is a midi one and a better cut on the top?

I think a nice going out dress will make her feel good but at 15 it's just too short and low cut!

NorthernSpirit · 10/07/2019 14:48

Apart from the fact that the dress is foul and looks like something a prostitute would wear.... it’s totally inappropriate - long sleeves and man made fibres, France are having a heatwave - she’ll sweat to death.

I wonder how the other parents would feel when she goes out dressed in this? It’s totally inappropriate.

IDontGiveABagOfDicks · 10/07/2019 14:53

I don’t have teenage DC yet, and I was the sort of 18 year old that went out in PVC knee high boots and fishnet stockings Blush BUT I do not like that dress at all for a 15YO.

She might try it on and love it, or hate it because her tummy looks bad, I’m not sure which outcome would be worse.

WhatHaveIFound · 10/07/2019 14:54

Something like this playsuit would be a lot cooler.

NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 14:59

Just looking at all the polyester brings me out in a sweat, let alone wearing it in a heatwave!

NoBaggyPants · 10/07/2019 15:02

Although it could be worse...

abcyz · 10/07/2019 15:04

Right, I've never looked on this website before but seemingly the "boobs OR legs" rule doesn't apply here. The dress she likes isn't going to look good on anyone who doesn't have fake boobs (or a really good stick on bra/heavy duty duct tape).

I looked at playsuits from the same website but they all seem pretty short - however, as long as she's wearing short-type underwear underneath, I can't see it being a huge issue? Would she wear something like this? www.prettylittlething.com/red-chiffon-frill-plunge-playsuit.html

Alternatively, there are some nice, looser dresses that are a bit more covered - www.prettylittlething.com/red-chiffon-bardot-ruffle-tiered-dress.html or www.prettylittlething.com/red-frill-detail-pleated-skater-dress.html. With the second one, you could put a stitch in to hold the wrap front together higher.

Is she the type that even if it was boiling hot, she would wear it even though she'd be mighty uncomfortable? Or is she more likely to leave it in her case and stick to something cotton-based and loose? And what is her friend planning to wear?

IDontGiveABagOfDicks · 10/07/2019 15:05

@NoBaggyPants That’s exactly the sort of thing I’d have gone out in and feel sick at the thought of my own DD wearing.

Must add my Dad had no clue, I used to get changed in the first pub I went to Blush

abcyz · 10/07/2019 15:05

@NoBaggyPants - it could be even worse that that!

IDontGiveABagOfDicks · 10/07/2019 15:10

@abcyz how do you even get those on and off?!

Mrsjayy · 10/07/2019 15:10

It is a bit kim kardashian isn't it i think the style is horrible and not really for a 15 year old on holiday I would say something like it is a nightclub dress and she would look out of place.

pebbleo · 10/07/2019 15:14

These are much nicer

Aquamarine1029 · 10/07/2019 15:37

@pebbleo

I agree, they are much better, but I still think it's totally inappropriate for a 15 year old to show that much cleavage.

Mrsjayy · 10/07/2019 15:43

I agrree I don't think 15 year olds need clothes that are too booby. As pp said try newlook or top shop

Justgivemesomepeace · 10/07/2019 15:46

My dd is 16 turning 17 so a bit older but it's exactly the type of thing her and her mates wear for parties. Horrible. They look cheap and nasty and could look so much better. She wouldn't have been wearing it at 15 though. It's only really the last 6 months or so.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/07/2019 15:59

No fucking chance and that’s before you get into the ridiculousness of it for France in the summer

Resort to the MN favourite of ‘No’ is a complete sentence. Though personally I’d got fir ‘don’t be so bloody ridiculous, you’re going there on holiday not to stand on street corners’

I’m not sure if the beaded maxi ‘dress’ (WTAF?!) or clingfilm trousers are better or worse but holy fuck. They should all be in a website for ‘working girls’ nit Regular teenagers
