Daughter at Uni requesting mid term 'care package' What would you put in it?

Disclaimer - she's not really a teen. She's 21, has just finished her degree and started a PGCE, but I didn't really know where else to post it.

So please can you help, my imagination is failing me - what would you put in a mid term 'care package' for your daughter? FI, she won't be able to get home until Christmas (PGCE is very full on).

How about a Costa coffee card with a healthy balance to keep her fully caffeinated for the term?

I'd have loved one of these as a student, she will be thrilled.

TheAnswerPrancer · 25/09/2017 20:33

*I mean I would have loved a care package, not Costa card!

whoseafraidofnaomiwolf · 25/09/2017 20:34

Oh gosh - more good ideas! I might have send staggered parcels!

Beechams cold and flu capsules and tyrozets. She will undoubtedly get a horrible cold and these things are amazing.

Aww you seem like a lovely mum OP. Your daughter is very lucky x

Cake
Mix tape (ok I'm old! But maybe make something similar)
Pair of cinema tickets
Wine
Magazine
Super noodles (because I secretly love them)
Scarf
Bed socks
New PJs

Hand cream
New slippers

My dd is only 13, so a long way from uni, but I am reading this with a tear in my eye. What a lovely bunch of mums you all are!

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 25/09/2017 20:52

Aw this is lovely. My mum would have done this for me if she'd thought of it!

Blueemeraldagain · 25/09/2017 20:54

What is she training to teach? Any stationary is always welcomed!

MumBod · 25/09/2017 21:03

Ok, what would you lot get for a DS?

Mine's gone to uni and I'm wondering what I can send him in a few weeks when the treats I sent him with run out. Anything non-foody?

Yourownpersonaljesus · 25/09/2017 21:05

I wouldn't send books or magazines - she won't have time to read for pleasure whilst doing a PGCE! Her favourite snacks would be good as she'll be really busy and won't have much time to prepare food. Fluffy socks and vitamins (as mentioned previously) sound a good idea too.

PinkPuffin · 25/09/2017 21:21

Get her stickers anyway - I had some year 11s swipe mine today, KS really doesn't matter Grin

Pibplob · 25/09/2017 21:36

For a boy it's a bit harder. I guess some warm socks and pj's may still be appreciated? Voucher? Chocolate and savoury snacks. Deodorant set? Ooh will have a think!

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/09/2017 21:43

Home made flapjacks that she can share.. oats are good for you! And long lasting energy.

I second the fruitcake, again good idea.
Hot chocolate
A funny card
Tissues with added balm -snotty nosed children give one colds
Jelly beans
Dried fruit
Nuts
Fruit teas
If you can find handbag size scent..
A new flannel or sponge
A scarf
Handcream
A set of sharpies in diff colours.
Expensive, but.. cartridges for her printer
An iTunes or Amazon voucher

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/09/2017 21:44

M&s do brilliant pladtic mini bottles of wine..

A couple of mulled wine sachets..

HopeClearwater · 25/09/2017 21:49

She just asked for gifts??

Is 'care package' a thing for students these days?

Boggling ...

Slightlydizzydaily · 25/09/2017 21:58

For boys maybe:

Magazine for something he is into
Bottle of red wine
Pair of pyjamas
Nice quality coffee
Handwritten note from mum and dad

Migraleve · 25/09/2017 22:00

Just as I was reading through the thread thinking how surprising it was that nobody had made a negative comment.....

C8H10N4O2 · 25/09/2017 22:38

Slightly fancier versions of regular likes - biscuits in a nice tin, better coffee/shampoo/toiletries, books, music, fluffy socks, pyjamas, cake. Anything which they like but wouldn't buy themselves on a budget. Some silly items and cheap novelties - bubbles, balloons, children's sweets.

I used to love doing these when they were still at uni, I still do them randomly now they are working :)

"Is 'care package' a thing for students these days? "

It always has been.

reallybadidea · 25/09/2017 23:10

I'm a student at age 39 AND I have a full time job AND 4 children to look after and my mum hasn't sent me a care package

RaininSummer · 25/09/2017 23:33

I have never heard of care packages and I went to uni twice and my two daughters both went too. Must be lovely to receive but I was a bit flummoxed that a student actually asked for a package.

SuburbanRhonda · 25/09/2017 23:38

I do think it's weird to ask for a care package (hate that phrase - makes me think of adult social care), but they are great fun to put together.

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 25/09/2017 23:58

My mum used to do this and we are in our 50s.She would visit bringing lots of fresh fruit, coffee and cheese.Very popular with my friends!

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 26/09/2017 00:40
