Are all teenage boys tv morons?

Dp and I have just got rid of Sky, the reason being we never got to watch TV.

Ds(13) abd Dss(16) would position themselves one each to a sofa(there are only 2 in the room), and watch constant drivel ALL day. Includes, Hollyoaks, Friends, Southpark, Futurama, Top Gear, Malcolm in the Middle, all of which are endlessly repeated.

Got so sick of being subject to constant crap, that we got rid of it. Of course everyone is meant to "share", but as soon as you leave the room for a cuppa, crap immediately back on, AND enless sighing and huffing, when we were trying to watch something.

Also Tv on ALL at top volume day like some life force. I thought teenagers were meant to skulk in their rooms all day. Well not in this house....can't even stand to hear the theme tunes now. Are they all like this?

we got my ds(13) a computer for his birthday, so he sits on that most of the day! so you get peace and quiet but we never see him!!

random · 08/01/2007 18:22

My ds 14 hardly ever watches tv.. too busy on the pc but if he does he watches pretty much what fizzbuzzs son watches..I must admit to liking futurama though which makes me laugh He also watches football and wrestling with his dad

MarsLady · 08/01/2007 18:24

No and yes! lol

DS1 watches all the sports channels for as long as we let him, but as I have 4 other children and of course me he doesn't have that luxury of endless viewing.

Instead it's endless LazyTown and Wonderpets!

He's often found playing with his PSP, on a cricket game on the PC or fiddling with his phone.

He used to read and read and read. At the moment I'm "encouraging" him back into books (and to stay away from nasty germ filled girls lol)

fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 18:33

Unfortunately ds has a laptop, so...you guessed it....tv and laptop on ...not actually watching tv, but notices straight away if you turn it over.

Dss settles himself down for a whole weekend with homework in front of it. Both have games consoles in bedrooms...but hardly used.
Both want them hoooked up to main TV, but NO WAY will that ever happen. At least when they were younger they went to bed, but now they are up later than me...

I used to like some of the progs too, but you can have too much of a good thing....know every plot of Malcolm in the Middle, and seen every Top Gear about 100 times. Used to like the Simpsons as well, but now it is just noise and too much yellow!

Wish they would find some nasty germ filled girls...., but hey, who needs girls when you have a tv...

Funny that! lol

carlsberg · 08/01/2007 18:37

Thats what I hate, they don't go to bed. Drake and Josh I can just about stand and Malcom in the Middle is passable, but its just endless. Dh just constantly goes in and puts sky news on. He hates it. They have freeview in the rooms but say they don't have enough channels!
When I say we had 3 channels when I was a child they think I am joking.

southeastastra · 08/01/2007 18:40

lol at too much yellow! yes

i caught my son watching the autopsy programme a few months back, but i suppose it's better than endless ed, edd and eddy or whatever it's called

random · 08/01/2007 18:41

Mine seems to be over the Drake and Josh phase..just as well really I knew every bloody word to every episode

fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 20:12

Haven't suffered Drake and Josh. Would that be another horror to be unleashed on us?
Except not, as Sky is going....

Carlsberg, totally sympathise with Freeview thing, but wonder why I am not suprised by it. lol

life was so much easier when they went to bed early, why can't they go at 7.30pm like when they were little. Often read posts on here by parents despairing at 3 and 4 years old, and think, just wait, at least you can get rid of them when they go to bed, ours are ALWAYS there, no escape.

I thought most teenagers were meant to want to get as far away from parents as possible, not sit in same room ALL the time, and never ever go anywhere except to turn on tv...not that that inolves any effort of course.

OP posts:
carlsberg · 08/01/2007 20:21

Mine take ages in the shower or bath using all sorts of hair gel and so on,then say they are starving even after a huge dinner. They sneak food off to bed and lay in bed watching Friends and then say they go to bed earlier than all their friends which i know is not true.
On weekend mornings I wake ds1 up about 11 and he sits and eats toast in front of the tv and doesn't move until I start to vacuum under his feet.
I am just like my Mum used to be, although I thought I never would be.

fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 20:26

Ds has been know to pause for half an hour with spoon betwixt lips and bowl of cereal so transfixing does he find the antics of Spongebob/Malcolm/Bender/Homer et all.

Meanwhile, I am clockwatching and blood pressure is going through the roof, as I start to snort and tap my foot

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 20:27

Also do not understand attraction of Friends. It is now so ancient, all people in it are middle aged!

OP posts:
carlsberg · 08/01/2007 20:28

And I have never seen someone take so long to put one sock on while gawping at the tv.

zephyrcat · 08/01/2007 20:30

My dp is 42 and still acts the way you have described all of your teenagers!!

fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 20:34

Come to our house Carlsberg...socks...ha!

Cannot believe this...as I type.....
..."Friends" dvd now inserted into dvd player! There is no escape....do we have to get rid of *dvd player as well!!!

OP posts:
carlsberg · 08/01/2007 20:34

AAAgh I can hear it now - 'I'll be there for you'-that flipping Friends rubbish is on E4 and the music is seeping through to me. I only left the room for a second.

fizzbuzz · 08/01/2007 20:46

They have too much choice these days. (old bag emoticon nodding with folded arms)

OP posts:
themoon66 · 08/01/2007 23:03

Same in this house. DS has laptop to which he downloads endless Manga cartoons to watch at the same time as the telly churns out endless repeats of Friends, Scrubs, Futurama, Simpsons etc.

fizzbuzz · 09/01/2007 08:00

Mooney.....pmsl at your postHow can he watch all of that at once? That is a feat beyond the capability of our pet morons.....but dare not mention it...wouldn't like to give them ideas....

OP posts:
hiddentreasure · 10/01/2007 21:29

I think mine would asphyxiate if they spent more than 10 minutes not watching a screen of some sort - pc or tv, both whenever possible, ideally with an Ipod for emergency backup.

But then their df is not dissimilar with sport on the tv.

fizzbuzz · 10/01/2007 21:42

Yes totally agree. Have turned off tv, and threatened murder if it comes back on.

Soooo Ds is now downloading episodes of Southpark onto his laptop, and watching them.

Just in case you don't know, Southpark is an
educational, and informative programme about a delightful bunch of American primary school children. Do make an effort to see it won't you? I believe it is on every day between 9-10pm. Be sure not to miss it won't you [sarcastic emoticon]

They are still in front of the tv, even when it is turned off they stare at it FFS!

OP posts:
colditz · 10/01/2007 21:46

Actually I enjoy the tang of Southpark's social commentary. The episode, where the people from the future came and "took are Jurrrrbs" is quite current, I thought.

clerkKent · 11/01/2007 12:53

DS and DD alternate between the PC and the TV - taking it in turns. This means dw and I never get to use either before the kids' bedtime (they are still young enough for us to decide when that is). The dw uses the PC - I only get a look in at the weekend when all the others are out of the house. I can only access MN from work.

MarsLady · 11/01/2007 13:11

never mind clerk... at least you get some access lol!
