Everything dd16 wears has to be skin tight and if its a skirt or dress, just barely covering her backside and there has to be the maximum amount of cleavage showing. She is a beautiful girl and does not need to draw attention to herself like this. She is also quite curvy but it makes her look much bigger than she actually is. Of course I cannot mention any of this to her as I get accused of calling her fat when I do but I worry she is drawing the wrong kind of attention to herself by "flaunting" her body. This sounds really old fashioned and prudish I know but that's the way I feel. Should I just keep quiet and let her get on with it as any "advice" I might give will not go down too well. Any thoughts?

DS1 wears both clothes that are designed for men and clothes that are designed for women. I'm happy with 95% of what he wears, but there are a couple of items I'm not fond of.

  1. He has one pair of pale blue spandex leggings that leave nothing to the imagination. Think male ballerina wearing tights. I was not happy about him leaving the house looking like that, so we made a compromise that he would wear denim shorts over the top.
  1. He has a white top that is very thin and presumably designed for layering. As well as being almost translucent, he has then ripped the hem off, so the front nearly shows his belly button and the back is even shorter. Thankfully this hasn't made an appearance since the weather got colder.

Not really. I SO appreciate that the hideous style of trousers belted underneath the arse with all the boxers on view has gone out of fashion. And I love that all girls have long hair these days. It looks lovely. I was just thinking the other day, wow this is so much prettier than all the hideous Purdy haircuts and rigid perms when I was a girl.

Grin SecondofHerName - I have fond memories of DH wearing green velvet skin tight leggings back in the day.

So far I don't think DD has perpetrated any fashion crimes that live up (down?) to the most alarming of his - or my - 80s outfits.

I've come to understand that comments from parents just reinforce the poor choice of make up or clothes. Peer pressure did it here. She went away for 2 weeks wearing massive amounts of make up, as she had done for months, came back fresh faced with a small amount of make up, as the new friends told her she looked better with less. Also expressed my disgust at the clothes, then took a back seat. It's sorted itself out, than goodness!

Would be nice if DD1 (13) would show a bit of interest in clothes. Mostly wears jeans, but if her favourite jeans are in the wash, she would shove on too-small tracky bottoms rather than wear a nice skirt or check the airer to see if the jeans are dry. DD2 (11) won't wear anything she can't do the splits/cartwheels in -so basically leggings with tiny denim shorts over the top. Would be nice to see her in a colour other than black/navy, she tends to wear really dull colours.
