Does anyone have teenagers who speak to them in a civilised tone?

And if so how the hell do you manage it?

dd is nearly 18 and ds1 is 13 and between them they are driving me bloody mad. I don't know why it's getting to me more recently but it is.

Every sentence that they say to me (other than "Can I have a lift?") seems to have a 'tone'.

I'm sure I wasn't like this [saintly emoticon]

my soon- to- be 18yr old holds my hand walking along the street, pretending he's my toy-boy!

Just found this thread, and it has so made me smile!

Glad to know I'm not the only one about to murder their dd!!

DD1 (11) is already getting there . Loved the tip about the PS2, sadly dd1s passion is riding & I don't think I'd manage to hang out of the bedroom window holding a pony!

I give sarcastic smile and say...

'Now say that again like you would if you were talking to a teacher!'

Usually works!

It's the change between the 'you're bugging my thought space' tone, and the 'can I have....' tone that's just so amazing.

I shall try the teacher one - as apparently she is the golden child at school!!

I do think that children have a problem with realising that parents are human beings!
