teenage D with large breast

mumathome1969 · 09/04/2015 22:24

I have a 14 year old D whose boobs have grown dramatically over the last 18 months. As a bravissimo convert myself I eventually took her to a shop to get measured, she absolutely hated it. She was wearing anything from a 34-36 c-dd. She was measured in August 2014 as a 30 G. I was so shocked. Last weekend she informed me that her bras were not right, she had 4 boobs. So they have grown again ! I telephone bravissimo and explained the issue and the lady was so helpful even through my tears. We ordered 30 GG and H to try. My D is horrified at the size of the cups.

I can't put my stress and worry into words. I had large boobs through my teens but not really until about 16 and I was a 30 FF, which increased with age and a resizing at bravissimo. After pregnancy and a lot of weight gain I was 38 J. I had reduction 12 years ago and I have to say it is the best decision I ever made.
I am so worried that D will continue to grow, what do I tell her. She is still continuing with her very active sporting life but I know she is uncomfortable. I am always tell her to put her tops up etc. I have a real problem with large boobs as I hated mine with a passion.

I will happily pay for the reduction and I have told her this a few times but she seems very matter of a fact about them. She only gets upset when she compares herself to her friends who are all tiny and they go clothes shopping. She is happy to wear bikini's but I am reserved about that!!
What advice is there on reductions for teenagers?
When will they stop growing?
She has had her periods now for 18 months but they are every 45 days, she is 5'4 in height but has not got taller for about 6 months.
with thanks a very worried mum of one

It does sound like you have more of a problem with your daughters' breasts than she does. Teenagers have a tough enough time adjusting to what nature gave them without their mothers offering cosmetic surgery. Your attitude is not going to make her feel any better.
On a positive note, you have got her good, supportive bras and are encouraging her to keep active and healthy - keep doing this and drop the talk about surgery!

GinAndSonic · 09/04/2015 22:39

Stop telling her to pull her tops up. Dont discourage bikinis. You will make her self concious, and as a big breasted woman myself, who has had big boobs since her age, i can say that my worries about what other people thought FAR outweighed any actually issue i had with them. Its taken me a long long time to get over that and accept my body. Please dont put your issues on her shoulders.

eae123 · 09/04/2015 22:39

This was my daughter yesterday! She is 16 and a 28G. Nowhere else but Bramissivo does her size!

She was a bit upset as she can't wear patterned bras like her friends and instead has to wear 'granny' bras!

Don't let it worry you, as I said yesterday, some people would love to have boobs that big Grin

marriednotdead · 09/04/2015 22:45

Obviously large breasts is a family trait.
Having issues about them is not!

Please try to get past your own negative viewpoint, it will not benefit her in any way. By continually offering her surgery, do you see that you are telling her that she is not acceptable to you as nature made her?

On the assumption that your username is a reflection of your age, bra development has improved massively since you were younger, and there are fashionable and well fitting styles available for her in a way that you could never have dreamt of.

You clearly want to be a supportive mum, so make sure she gets fitted regularly and has a suitable sports bra. Why shouldn't she wear a bikini?!
She may continue growing for another few years yet, she may have stopped already. You can't change that either way.

liveloveluggage · 09/04/2015 22:49

I think you should think carefully about what you are saying. Don't make her feel bad about her body. She is probably a very pretty girl with a lovely figure and you should tell her to enjoy her natural good looks and not compare herself to her friends but be herself.

Redglitter · 09/04/2015 22:54

It's not about you or how you feel. ffs don't pass your feelings onto her

I've got huge boobs and always hated them and wished I could get a reduction. that is til I met my current partner. He loves them and has totally changed my attitude towards them. I wish I'd had this attitude 20 years ago.

Help your daughter focus on the positive not the negative

mumathome1969 · 09/04/2015 23:16

Thank you all for your messages and you are all right. Thankfully my issues are not impacting D as I have voiced them on here and amongst friends but not with her.

Yes she is a beautiful girl with a fab figure and loves to wear her bravissimo bikinis and is excellent at sports(bravissimo sports bras) and is a fab swimmer (a great bravissimo sports swimsuit). She has a great positive attitude and adventurous outlook on life.
I would like to see what her size would be converted to the high street, just to get a few cheaper bras.

But I do worry because she is so young to have unwanted attention(luckily she is at an all girls school). I know this changes as they get older. I just know on all the things that I missed out on when I was younger due the my size and I just want D to experience all that life throws at her without hindrance. That is why my thoughts go to reduction.

Any advice on the stretch marks D has through the sudden growth

Thanks again it helps to air my concerns

Bravissimo have some beautiful floral/pattern bras. We have not brought them as my D only wants plan nude or white at the moment and some a lot of them are a little old for her at the moment. Hopefully by 16 she will want pattern/pretty ones.

is this an advertisement for Bravissimo ? Hmm

babyiwantabump · 09/04/2015 23:45

Ha ha Anyfucker I thought the same!

AnyFucker · 09/04/2015 23:49

seven, count 'em, seven references to how wonderful Bravissimo products are

< disclaimer: there are other bra manufacturers for the well endowed lady >

NoelHeadbands · 09/04/2015 23:49

"Other underwear manufacturers are available" Hmm

AnyFucker · 09/04/2015 23:49

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 09/04/2015 23:52

Just give over with the reduction talk and keep up with getting her the right size. Loads of lther onljne places besides from Bravissimo these days - look at the bra intervention threads.
G cup isn't really massive on a 30 inch band anyway.

mumathome1969 · 10/04/2015 00:09

Apologise it was not an advert for the one company, it just happened to be the only place that I have used.
I will look at the bra intervention threads thank you for the information.
This is my first time on Mumsnet it has been very helpful and insightful

First you said you've discussed reduction with her a few times then you go on to say you've not mentioned your issues to her. Which is it?
She is lucky that you are able and willing to provide her with bras, sports bras and swimsuits which suit her figure. Leave it at that.

HazleNutt · 10/04/2015 08:25

OP you really, really have to stop offering her reductions, telling she can't wear bikinis and commenting on her clothes. She doesn't seem to have a problem with her breasts at the moment, but if you keep doing it, she will certainly develop one. Even 30H is not that huge that this should cause her actual issues.

Help her with shopping, good supportive underwear and sports bras, and encourage her to stand up straight and be proud of her body instead of being embarrassed. And yes, explain that there will be some idiots who think it's their place to make stupid comments and how to deal with this.

There's not much you can do for stretch marks, but most that are developed in teenage years will fade.

nequidnimis · 10/04/2015 09:52

'I just know all the things I missed out on when I was younger due to my size'

OP, I'm genuinely baffled. I'm a similar size and have never given it a second thought. It limits where I can shop for bras and bikinis I guess, but that's it. It doesn't sound like your DD is letting it impact her life, so why are you so worried?

Tell her she looks amazing and she'll believe it.

MerryMarigold · 10/04/2015 09:56

You said you haven't talked about your concerns, but you have offered her a reduction! If she moans about it constantly when she's older and is really, really unhappy, you could talk about it as a possibility, but definitely let her lead that.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 10/04/2015 10:06

It is what it is. As someone with 36HH breasts that seemingly came in overnight when I was 12, I know that the struggle is real. Especially as my mum and sister are both borderline flat chested (both 30AA!) so I had no one who understood (Dad is adopted and I assume the bustyness comes from his blood family, as no one else has got big boobs!)

Yes, I hated not being able to shop in Topshop and that they jiggled when I played netball but I've had no lasting damage from my teenager boob trauma. Stop giving your daughter issues that she otherwise wouldn't have.

HazleNutt · 10/04/2015 10:10

And yes, what things did you miss out on when younger? Sure, sports must have been a bit of a challenge, but there are excellent sports bras available nowadays, and bikinis in cup sizes. Can't think of anything else, and I'm a 30G.

VeryTattyMum · 10/04/2015 11:22

E-bay is excellent for larger size cups as many sellers buy up the end of ranges from the bra manufacturers . I was a sudden developer to 30G at 15 years old and had the "granny bra" crisis but ranges are much better now. Try also Debenhams, Figleaves (on-line) and good independent shops all of which will be cheaper than Bravissimo.

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 11:25

I had the same sized boobs when I was her age and to be quite honest I bloody loved them.

Let her make her own mind up before you press your issues onto her, you'll do her a world of good.

circular · 10/04/2015 21:32

We found recentlly that a John Lewis do some of he same brands as Bravissimo and more convenient. Definitely quite a few to chose from that go up to GG or larger, suitable styles for teens, on small back size. Curvy Kate and Freya are 2 of the brands that spring to mind.
