Not sure what to do really. My two aren't fussed about chocolate and boxed Easter eggs are such a swizz.

I reckon ours would be very disappointed if they didn't get eggs, or an easter egg hunt! (they are 13 & 15). We've never gone down the money or presents route at Easter & I'm reluctant to start now, but judging by what other parents give their children we seem to be complete misers Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2015 18:34

I have never done an Easter Egg hunt ever.Blush

I want to give them something but not make it Christmas #2 but don't want to be mean IYKWIM.

Mine get an easter egg ,some small bits and bobs and a tenner .
They like to pretend they are offended " awww Muuuuuum " and then scoff the chocolate anyway Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 29/03/2015 18:39

Eggs/eastery chocolate. Not other gifts - was wondering the other day when Easter had turned into a general present-buying event!

My mum always gives us all an egg, but this year she has given us this www.solidchocolateco.co.uk/the-solid-egg.html between us Grin

PingPongBat · 29/03/2015 18:43

We always had Easter Egg hunts when I was little - we had a big garden & big family so everyone got involved - grandparents, cousins, aunts/uncles & granny's dog all madly running round - complete chaos & great fun. Not quite the same in our small suburban patch, but still a laugh. Somehow I managed to convince the DCs it was the Easter Bunny hiding the eggs, until DD (then aged 9) peeked through the curtains while I was hiding them in the back garden!

Zadkiel · 29/03/2015 18:59

We all get one egg. Adults and teens have one. Youngest pre-teen has a few little ones and a big egg as an easter egg hunt. She gets to keep the big egg and the little ones are put in a dish for us all to share.

No fancy eggs just the one for our favourite chocolate bar. No cash, no extras.

Goodpresentideaplease · 29/03/2015 19:14

Mine will get a big egg each and an Easter egg hunt! I thought we'd be past that this year but asked DS(14) the other day and he said he'd really like to do it again!

I don't care how much chocolate they eat at Easter, it's once a year and all gone within a few days.

WaitWhatOh · 29/03/2015 19:18

We don't really 'do' Easter and am always shocked surprised at the amount of eggs some kids get. Might buy them a chocolate bunny might not - but am as likely to buy a novelty chocolate or sweets any other time too. When on earth did Easter turn into Christmas gift giving?!

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2015 19:19

I don't mind them eating chocolate they just aren't that keen on it in vast quantities, so a few mini eggs might be good.

If they want an Easter Egg hunt they know where the shops and the garden are. Grin

Is it a thing to give gifts at easter then?

We never have. I don't buy my kids anything.

When did that start?

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2015 19:23

I inadvertently started it a bit by not getting them eggs but a DVD instead I think. Sad

dementedma · 29/03/2015 19:25

Yeah. One egg each and a mini egg hunt at grandmas

bramleypie · 29/03/2015 19:27

I'm giving my teens a cheap (£1.50) chocolate egg each. They get one each from their aunties and I'll give my nieces and nephew a £1 egg each. I did egg hunts occasionally when they were younger but it wasn't a big thing and not every year. The chocolate eggs get held back and rationed one per week so they're not all scoffed in one go. They actually still have some Christmas chocolates hidden away as I did the same for Christmas!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/03/2015 19:28

We're actually travelling home that day from a comic thingy I'm taking to her which includes an overnight stay.
That's not a present as such, just happens to be on that day.
I'll get her a token egg, she does like chocolate, but nothing big.

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2015 19:29

I must check the loft to see if all the Christmas chocolate has gone, there may be a stray tin of Roses up there.

Mine (boys) like chocolate but I make up a little gift bag with a magazine, some mini eggs and a bigger egg and maybe another small thing chucked in if I can find something.

DramaAlpaca · 29/03/2015 20:42

Well, I just asked the 17yo & his older brothers (21 & 20), and they all really, really, really want an Easter egg, please, Mum Grin.

DS mentioned something about Easter eggs the other day so I think he is expecting something. Have just bought him a box of Lindt Lindor chocolates. Haven't bought him an actual Easter Egg for years as I taught him that you get far more chocolate if you buy bars rather than eggs. He usually gets some cash from GPs and last year we went to Outlet Village just after Easter where he spent his cash on 3 huge Easter eggs from Thorntons which were vastly reduced in price.

Rosieposy4 · 29/03/2015 20:59

Mine used to love egg hunts when younger, but now they are older 3/4 are on healthy eating plans and don't eat choc/sweets. I have asked them all and general opinion was that they would prefer a tenner to an egg ( an aunt and grandfather have already given eggs so they have each anyway!) so that is the plan.

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2015 21:06

I do wonder at what point they should be buying us eggs TBH.

OP posts:
MehsMum · 29/03/2015 21:06

There would be a riot here is there wasn't either a Lindt bunny or an egg for everyone.

GPs never gave them eggs, and nor did anyone else, and the family Easter chocolate hunt (the DC each get a series of clues to follow) is now as much of a tradition as the Xmas tree.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 29/03/2015 21:07

Nothing. We don't bother with Easter.

Redglitter · 29/03/2015 21:48

My nieces get masses of eggs so I usually buy them something. This year I've bought one of those hang up shoe holders you know the ones with 20 pockets for shoes.

10 pockets are being filled with goodies for niece 1 and 10 for niece 2. Some are duplicates that they'll each get but the rest are tailored to each one of them. It's been great fun doing.
